Gus - “we beat them handily”

we just methodically picked apart BAMA with our B+ game... stupid special teams mistake - killer red zone turnover - a shitshow wtf? drive to open the 2nd half - 2 injured rb’s - and we still dominated them and pressured them until they broke

credit where it’s due... Gusvember has been enjoyable for the first time in years...

I still won’t lose a wink of sleep when/if he leaves - but that’s discussion for another night

Best defense since '05. Offense started to peak as Chip took more control. KJ went beast mode this season. Gus' personnel decisions are still mostly ass.

Overall, B+ season. He's done that or better 40% of his time at Auburn now. Congrats for doing your job, Gus. Beating UGA and UA feels nice.

Yeah, but 40% of the time he’s a wolf 100% of the time.

I'm not sure how to handle this new trash talking Gus. It seems so odd. This is a 180 from stumbling, bumbling idiot Gus who drove me crazy for most of the last 3 seasons. I think the theories about mental breakdowns might have been legit. And somehow the LSU game finally snapped him out of it?

He definitely snapped and had a loss of confidence. I'm an arm-chair psychologist and have traded DMs with a guy who has TWO PSYCHOLOGY DEGREES. Gus was not prepared to run a big time CFB program with all of it's pressures. Maybe he is now. We'll see.

It was body language, the way he talked...all of it. Like the pressure and the failure of his offense just crushed him. The LSU game made me sure he was permanently broken. I guess he needed rock bottom to find his way back. I still have some concerns, but I no longer think he's forever lost. Credit to the man for finding his way out this year. We don't stand a chance vs either of our rivals if he was still in that space.

I still have reservations but I'm giving him a pass for the rest of the year.

Yeah I'll be disappointed if we lose to UGA and don't at least get some hardware for this run, but I won't be mad at him or go crazy over it. It's insanely hard to win 3 huge games like that in 4 weeks. It's brutal and we seem banged up.

My Gus measuring stick will be the first 4 games of 2018. Do we look like a prepared football team or is it again going to look like we didn't practice offense for the entire offseason and need to use the first month to figure out who we are. That I cannot be okay with.

That and steppin' up the crootin' game to where we're filling needs at erry position and not just stacking stars. Need to land at least one ELITE talent at 50% of positions each season and back-fill with A-, B+ talent to not have depth issues at key positions so often. Maybe he's getting there. He always had part of it until he went off the rails.

I stopped following recruiting at any level that tells me what's going on. I really don't know what we have or don't until a few weeks before signing day and even then I'm still relatively clueless about most kids.

I just want a transfer QB on deck. 2010, 2013 and now 2017. All transfer QB's. We should be the prime destination for any transfer QB and if we miss one we want it should be because we've already landed another one.

I have no problem keeping one on deck but if we can't land a fuggin' 5 star stud with what Stidham has done then things are not fixed.

When you miss on a transcendent talent, from your home state of GA groomed by CAM that stings. I try not to follow it but I’d know if we landed any elite top 100 youngsters and we haven’t. Seems to be picking up a bit though with this late season surge.

I still have a lot of thoughts on Gus...

I need to see it sustained through next season... I need to see him fill staff vacancies as they arise... I need to see him continue to adapt the offense as defenses adjust... I need to see him adjust personnel usage... I need to see him improve roster management... I need to see him build a soul destroying defense without Champ and T-Rob’s hulking youngsters...

he’s already done things I never thought he was capable of doing... and he truly is a different guy... whether the LSU loss fried his circuits - or his meds were adjusted - or Jacobs finally being out unleashed something - I don’t know “what” gets credit, but I know “who” gets the credit - so good for Gus either way...

the issue I always had with him is he had 4+ years of stubbornness that showed no sign that he was capable of any of this... not just that he wasn’t capable - but he was undeniably incapable - so he needed to be replaced... and he has been replaced... only, by some miracle, he was replaced by a new, improved, Gusbot... that was always the best case scenario, but too illogical and unlikely to even be considered...

I take back nothing that I’ve said about him... I still don’t trust him... I still don’t think he’s done anything that can’t be done by a large number of other, qualified corches we could hire... but that’s because I think Auburn is uniquely qualified and positioned to be a perennial championship contender and I expect a competent vision and execution...perhaps Gus has that vision and has been hampered and blocked by Jacobs and the GOBN and is only now going to be able to fully see things through... I’ll never be more happy to have been so wrong... but I’m still not a believer - and won’t be for another 24 months at best...

so I’m going to enjoy this, enjoy a SEC title, and anything after that is gravy

I heard it suggested from someone with a few inside sources that he went off his medication, and I thought the person was joking, and chuckled, but then they said, "no, seriously." I still was kind of skeptical, but the way he's transformed himself over the past month+ leads me to believe that what I heard was fact, and Gus is back on his meds.

Having a family history with depression, anxiety, and bipolarism, I can completely buy this. I don't forgive him for it, if true, because he's a grown-ass man and that's a dumb-ass decision, but it would explain things.
