Gus 3rd highest paid corch in cfb

Doesn't Saban make like 11 million a year too? I've read that Urban makes more than 8 a year as well.

That won't last long. A&M's contract for Jimbo changed the game and about to get a lot coaches significant increases.

I don't think so. There's only a handful of programs that would ever consider spending that kinda money. Then the coaches that would even be considered for that kinda cash aren't necessarily about it. Look at Gundy. Look at Chip signing a deal for $5M. We got fleeced.

Nah. Its about to skyrocket (coaches pay).

But its okay if we disagree.

I don't think they're gonna sky rocket like crazy, but that's gonna be close to the cost to pull away a coach from one top 15 program to another. Texas, a few years ago, was willing to offer Saban something even more ridiculous than Jimbo's deal if I remember correctly. It's really hard to pull coaches away from a good gig when they're already making bank.

Really can’t think of anyone besides maybe Kirby and Dabo.
Yeah I could see Bama doing something ridiculous to get Dabo. I don't see Kirby leaving UGA or them needing to give him something outlandish. There's only a handful of schools that would consider putting these kind of offers on the table.

Dabo will make major bank once the Bama job opens up. Kirby may too if he flirts with it as well. But a guy like Kirby is already at his dream job so I’m not sure if he’s gonna play that game too much of flirting with schools to get a raise. Gundy does it, but I think he’s genuinely interested in going somewhere with better crootin opportunities.

Haha yeah I didn’t know that Kirby wasn’t even making 4 mil this year. What a bargain, although I’d expect to see him get bumped to the 6 mil range after the season.

I honestly don't have a problem with Gus being paid $7M. I don't think he is worth it, but it is in the range of the normal CFB coach salary insanity. What is not acceptable is a ~$50M buyout. We need to have the option to let a football coach go without paying him $30-40M if he goes in the toilet.

I think of that one epersona's theory of offering $20M to Saban then Bama goes bankrupt. Well that's what Arkansas did to us. Only difference is we don't get to enjoy a dynasty out of it.
The great equalizer to Zan’s dumb dumb tendencies is an electrifying dual threat qb. AU wins the LSU game if Malick was playing the 2nd half. I’m happy Zan has gone back to recruiting those QBs. And I think Gatewood is gonna be a stud.

I don’t think he deserves to be in the top 5 highest paid coaches, but with a Jay Jacobs gone, a renewed emphasis on DT QBs, and a continued focus on great defense, I think there’s reason to be optimistic for the future of Boog football under Zan

We got fleeced, but he also won't be in the top 5 for long.

I guess the good news is AU will step up and pay when they think they need to. The bad news is they rarely get these decisions right.

My hope is that I'm wrong about Gus and he goes full wolf mode. We're stuck with him now. At least for 2-3 seasons. I'd rather be wrong than us suck.

Yeah this is true. I'll feel a lot better with a stud athlete. Still a little sour he couldn't land the CAM protégé but Malik looks good. Gatewood should be a good fit.

Even if you include his entire tenure, so as not to slight 2013, he still averages 4 losses a season.

Yeah, I don’t want to slight him for the great first season. We just gave him a significant raise, and for the time, substantial buyout as a reward for that season. So this is based on his performance since then to an extent. Just makes me sick thinking about it. I might as well get over though. Too late to pray when the devil has already shown up.

That makes sense. He certainly hadn't earned a massive raise but it seems like "earned" is a dying concept anyway.

Meanwhile our best corch KEVIN is interviewing with UT tonight. Would be so Boog U if we locked up Gus to a gazilllion $ right before he left.
Interviewing for what? The head coaching position? Can't see that ever happening and can't see him signing on to be the DC either before them knowing who the HC would be. It'd shock me if Kevin leaves. He's got NFL caliber players returning at every level of the D next year. Doubt he wants to UT and perform a culture change.

Yeah seems unlikely but then again if it’s bad for Boog U I can’t rule it out. I could see them giving him a boatload to be T Martins D Coordinator.

Don’t both his brother and sister both work or live in Opelieka or Auburn? Can’t see him leaving and Boog U will match their offer

KEVIN has to get vested in state retirement. I think he needs another year or two, but don't remember exactly. It was part of the reason his Brother In Law (boog AD employee) was able to convince him to come corch with Gus.

I don't know about a sister but his brother works in Facilities and his mother lives in Prattville.
