Drink in the handsome talented goodness Gang...

Kid has all the tools. He can shoot. He can play with is back to the basket and make tough shots or the right pass. He rebounds well. He's a monster defensively. Whoever UT scorer he was on was basically rendered incompetent today. He won 3x as many possessions as he lost to either of those so called "player of they year candidates".

I don't think we'll be lucky enough to get him back. He's been so good the 2nd half of the season and looks primed to be a big part of any run we put on in the tournaments now. But I'd love to see what he could do next year as he grows into his talent.

Word is Chuma wants to come back, but is getting family pressure to leave. The fact he wants to return makes me think there's a good chance he will listen to Bruce's advice and stay unless he is told he's a lock for the first round. With his talent and tools, he is certainly a guy who could be a late 1st round pick this year, but come back and become a lotto pick.

if the idea is

hurry up and get to the league in order to hurry up and get my 2nd and 3rd contracts... that’s a tough sales pitch for even BRUCE to overcome, because you’re in essence asking him to delay making BIG money by a year, even though it’s 5-6 years from now

but if the idea is

hurry up and get paid because my family wants and needs the money now, even if it’s late first round money - then we best be able to cool down that heat for another 12 months

he’s shown flashes of first round draft pick potential - and over the last few weeks has started to put all of those flashes together for sustained stretches, but he’s not a first round lock yet... if he plays himself into definite (or probable) first round status, then it will mean we’re playing on Sunday, and have a punchers chance against whatever 1 or 2 seed draws us in the Sweet 16

I can’t believe I’m going ok say this, but I hope he gets a shitty report back and doesn’t get a 1st round grade. Yes, I’m gonna be a selfish bastard. I’ve been an Auburn fan for 38 years and supported AU basketballs when the teams were garbage. I think it’s ok for me to be selfish.

the only hesitation I have is - the one thing BRUCE still doesn’t have going for him is a first round draft pick from Auburn... a lot of his better guys - Lofton, Chism, etc weren’t pros... he doesn’t have much NBA draft success to sell aside from Tobias Harris, who, conincidentally enough I’ve been comparing Chuma to for 2 years... and Harris was drafted forever ago in the lifetimes of young teens

if he can say, hey, I turned this good but not great - mid/high 4 star into a top 20-25 pick in 2 years... it makes a difference when he’s competing against the big big boys for the Cooper’s and Boston’s of the world

I’m like you in that, if Chuma is back next year he’s an All-American, SEC POTY candidate... but if BRUCE is here for another 10-12 years, CHUMA may be the first, but won’t be the last, so we may have to get used to losing guys before we want

I had this idea in my mind that maybe Bruce could convince Chuma to come back and try and be a lottery pick, and that we went through an entire season with one of the top players in college basketball on our team. BUT I want what is best for the doctor and will just be happy that he gets drafted in the first round. Hopefully, he earns it in the tourney as we upset Kansas, UNC, UK and Duke on our way to the natty.

This guy is a nerd even by nerd standards but I do expect Dr C to get picked in the top 15 if he goes. Didn’t really want to talk about it though.
He's still late first round on other boards. Selfishly hoping that's where he is graded and BRUCE calls Mutual of Omaha to get him a good rate on a $20 million policy to return for next year.
