AU football was supposed to be a pleasant distraction from all the terrible world/national news, and the pure insanity of our government, but instead, it's the sports version of the exact same thing. I'm just glad I have places like The GREG to vent my frustrations, and get a dose of humor from the best bunch of ladies/gents on the tronz.

I was worried that my 11 day fishing extravaganza starting Thursday was going to cause extreme stress if I had to miss watching Awbren’s game on Saturday...now I DGAF and can focus on winning this million dollar prize! Keep em Beep Bopping while I am gone fellers!

I'm thinking of ways to occupy my time on game day. Cooking vlogs, crochet, making potholders, coloring cuss words. Taking suggestions for new hobbies.

Just kidding can't stop watching the train wreck

I'm with you. I'm actually going to the Georgia game, and I may even go to the Iron Bowl. It would probably be more enjoyable to KMS.

Oh no I'll be in Auburn for the GA game but I'm not sure about paying money to attend. You're into punishment huh?

Haha, yeah my parents basically just sell their tickets now but if I ever want to go they just give them to me. No way I would pay to go.

guys... just between us here in the trust tree - I haven’t stepped foot in Jordan Hare since the UGA game in 08... and I haven’t missed it a bit

I went to damn near every home game of the Tubs era and a handful of road games as well... but by 08, I was a beaten, broken man... the stadium was approaching dump status, as was the AD as a whole... nothing Boog related other than BRUCE has gotten a penny of my money since then

I even turned down a paid trip to the title game in 2010, because I didn’t want my dad to spend that much money on something I just didn’t really care about...

all that money saved is gonna come in handy when I’m following BRUCE like a brainwashed member of the Manson Family at the final four next March

Similar story but mine came circa 2012. I stopped buying tickets, stopped paying for a tailgate spot, and basically gave up on giving the AD any of my money. I try to go to one game a year for nostalgia, but I never pay to go. I either use my parents tickets or I win high school coaches lottery tickets - one time UGA 2013. I picked UGA this year solely because my friends I used to tailgate with are going to that game.

I stopped paying for season tickets post 15. I get free tickets from time to time but tuned down all freebies after 16 Clemson Coxcat debaucle. I will show up for a tailgate but not spending a dime to watch us shit the bed.

I did that after the '92 season. Went once in '97 and saw Florida kick our ass because my dad asked me to come down and go and then didn't go back again till the '09 uat game. The almost 20 year break was needed and when I went back, even with the loss, it was fun. Since l live so far away, I got to see folks I hadn't seen in 30 years and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Wasn't going to miss the 2010 NCG if I had had to hitch hike there. I'm an oulde and had waited too damn long to not see that year through to the end - that and my nephew was 7 and had really gotten into football so was fun to watch it through his eyes.
Alas, 7 years later and the now 14 yo nephew is sending me gifs of a bus on fire and he's unfortunately been fully indoctrinated into what being an AU football fan means.
I'm now at the point again where AU football is just a money pit and this will be my last year of attending games on a regular basis - will take nephew and his younger brothers to one game a year going forward unless changes are made to my satisfaction.
I will come down for basketball and put my money there. I went back in the '70s with my dad. Went with friends during the Charles and Chuck years and came down from MD for the Porter, Doc and Yo Mamadou years.
I miss basketball. BRRRUUUUUCCCE!!

Dat THOMPZUN bus pickin up STEEEEEM!!!!
I waz with sum 6A coaches MUNDY nite and erry wun of them picked THOMPZUN to win the state.

Yeah, they are legit. I'm ready for that Hoover game. I love my boy, but I hope Thompson wins. I don't think Hoover can beat them.

That Vestavia OLB was alright. Both OLB from Thompson looked better to me. Kid is "to white" imnsho. With that said, Thompson's DL averages about 280 with a 315lbs DE, so the LBers at Thompson run free.

I think Thompson will beat Hoover this year, but I'm not sure they can win state. The OTM teams are really down this year. That QB makes them a legit threat to win state, but I'm not sure if they can match up athlete-wise with McGill or Central. They could, but I have my doubts. Plus almost none of those kids have been in the playoffs before and it really is a different animal.

They beat McGill in the jamboree game this year

In fact, when they were going starters vs starters Thompson was winning 21-0 against McGill within the first 9 min of the game. I thought Thompson matched up very well.

Yeah, the whole football team is loaded at Thompson. The OL is probably the best in the state. I'm not sure what Tarp is talking about.

Thompson has always had a lot of good athletes, I've always thought they were a sleeping giant of the OTM teams. That being said, none of the OTM teams are anywhere close to the athletes that the big Mobile schools have or Central and those teams are in the playoffs every year so it will be interesting to see how the playoffs go. Once you get into the playoffs there is so much film on everyone that the games end up being tight

@Gran_Polla - I wasn't disrespecting Thompson in any way, QB play is huge in high school football and Thompson has arguably the best QB in the state. Plus Freeman is a fantastic QB coach. I'm sure you know enough about football to know that jamborees don't mean anything and are poor representations of what will happen in the playoffs. McGill replaced a lot, so it took them a few weeks before they were really rolling but they are playing a lot better now. I'm not sure I'm buying Thompson as having the best OL in the state, but I had to take this year off of coaching because of health issues so I'm not as up to date as I usually am.

It's cool! I love a good debate. I understand that OTM teams may be down this year, but looking at Mcgill's schedule/opponents I don't think they've really beat anyone. They beat Spanish fort by 7 and they have been on a roll as of late, but who have they beat? Foley is 3-4, Blount is 5-3, Bryant is 3-4, Montgomery is 0-9. If you say the competition is down that thompson is playing, well, McGill isn't beating world beaters by any means.

Absolutely true. This conversation prompted me to text my buddy who coaches down there. He said McGill is playing better, but that they aren't nearly as good as they have been the last two years. This goes against what another buddy of mine said about thinking they were really starting to click, so maybe Thompson can beat them again in the playoffs. I've just seen this in the past with some of the Mobile teams where they start off slow but by the end of the year are really good.

Real question is how good is Central, but I don't know anyone who played them this year.

I also just realized that Thompson will be in the North, I forgot about how the brackets are now. That really helps their chances, because the North has a lot of teams that put up good numbers but tend to not be very physical (Bob Jones is notorious for this).

I don't know anything about Central. Hoover coaches think Thompson has what it takes to win it all. Thompson has a good QB, but their running back extremely talented and could be the best back in the state next year. They also have a very good OL led by a Soph who is in the rivals 100 and has offers from bama/Auburn. They have the offensive fire power to play with anyone I have seen over the years imo.
