OT - Jay Jacobs

The Meyers clan can’t coach again (and rightfully so) but the dickhead who tried to cover up their abuse gets a sweet gig.

I’m kind of surprised that he’d leave for somewhere that he’s not totally in charge where he can hold his prayer rallies and tent revival sessions

The Meyers are currently coaching little league baseball in Auburn. Couldn’t believe it when I heard it

Big vision sells bigly. Gonna be powdered sugar on some jean shorts this fall in Gainesville.

Out

Gang, I have an innate ability to immediately come up with the worst case scenario in every situation, in pretty sure it is a natural thing that most lifelong boogs can do. What if Mullen told them to bring him in, so they can trick him into telling them how we bought Cam. You know he still jelly.

Had the thought cross my mind as well.

lol @ Phillip Marshall

On Jacobs’ move to Florida

I was surprised, but I probably shouldn’t have been. Jacobs is still relatively young and isn’t the kind of person who would relish the thought of retiring to the beach.

It was time for Jacobs to go at Auburn, but that doesn’t mean he did a bad job. Thirteen years is a long time to be at one place in the wild world of college athletics. He is certainly not a good person. Jacobs left an athletics department with lots of money and some really nice facilities. He made some good hires and some bad ones, as all athletics directors do.

So why was I surprised? If ever there was an Auburn man, it’s Jay Jacobs. I have no doubt that he remains an Auburn man, but he’ll be a Gator for a while now. For him and his family, that will be an interesting transition.

Jacobs was never like he came to be portrayed among a segment of the Auburn fan base. He will do well in whatever he does.

“He is certainly not a good person.”

Typo?

Amazing how he fell on his feet. He is the big winner here. Amazing!

I'm pretty sure there's like a 7-8 year statute of limitations on NCAA wrongdoings.

Edit: it's 4 years...

19.5.11 Statute of Limitations. Allegations included in a notice of allegations shall be limited to possible violations occurring not earlier than four years before the date the notice of inquiry is provided to the institution or the date the institution notifies (or, if earlier, should have notified) the enforcement staff of its inquiries into the matter. However, the following shall not be subject to the four-year limitation: (Adopted: 10/30/12 effective 8/1/13)
(a) Allegations involving violations affecting the eligibility of a current student-athlete;
(b) Allegations in a case in which information is developed to indicate a pattern of willful violations on the part of the institution or individual involved, which began before but continued into the four-year period; and
(c) Allegations that indicate a blatant disregard for the Association’s fundamental recruiting, extra benefit, academic or ethical-conduct bylaws or that involve an effort to conceal the occurrence of the violation. In such cases, the enforcement staff shall have a one-year period after the date information concerning the matter becomes available to the NCAA to investigate and submit to the institution a notice of allegations concerning the matter.

There are plenty of other things to do besides retiring to the beach. He could volunteer a lot or gotten a job in another sector around AU. Taking a lower gig at another SEC school kid nd of screams of resentment to me. Jmo

We have enough issues at AU, I don’t have time to worry about Jacobs at UF. The people at AU now are the ones that gave Gus $49,000,000

Yeah. Jacobs only bumped his salary about 60 after beating Bama and UGA in season 1. He didn’t give him the latest 50% raise for doing the same thing again in year 5.

He didn’t have any other options. That’s not a respectable gig for someone who was a big time SEC AD for 13(?) years. Pretty sad actually.

Every company I ever worked for had jobs for old-timers who had experience in the industry and might provide some help on a few projects but weren't willing to be part-timers or consultants. This sounds like one of those types.

Pretty sad.

I don't think it's sad. The guy feels like he has more to give and found someone to pay him. Good for him, just glad he isn't doing it at AU anymore.

(I just don't like Jacobs after the softball fiasco and kinda wish he'd just go away forever)
