OT: Lol, Bama continues to own us in everything...

I hate to admit it, but this loss tonight is the ultimate JABA.

I keep waiting on us to break the threshold and stay there, but I'm 42 and it hasn't happened yet.

Dammit
Hate to break it to you, but you’ll wait another 42 years. The culture at Alabama is do whatever it takes to win. The culture at auburn...

I get it, and I'm not going to argue that they are not superior to us in athletics and haven't committed 100% to winning at all costs. But to react to a loss with the idea that "they own us in everything" is as over the top hyperbolic as the SSP'ers posting the day after the Iron Bowl win that we owned Saban.

We've won 2 of the last 3 hoops games and 3 of the last 5. We're ahead of them in the SEC standings and entered the game ranked where they did not.

We beat them the last time we faced them in football and we've got as good a record vs Saban while he's been there as anyone in the football world.

We suck sometimes, but we're not quite the pushover some like to make us out to be when they feel a bit emotional.

Of course it’s hyperbolic, it’s a message board after an embarrassing loss to bama without sexton. I won’t even express my feelings on Avery vs Bruce as an x and o coach as most AU fans don’t have any understanding how basketball should actually be played. I’m looking to see how we progress on offense, because as seen last night bama had us scouted to a tee. Time for Bruce to do some actual x and o coaching.

Are we really going back to "Bruce can't X&O" now?

He had owned Avery till last night.

If you throw in a rant about FT's and we obviously don't coach/practice them correctly I think you'll have Boog Board Bingo.

Well, you post paragraph after paragraph complaining about how other people are complaining to make yourself feel better about being a better fan than them. Bruce is a weak x and o coach, and that has been known for 20+ years. He will even acknowledge that when you speak to him in person. Sorry you’re whiny and no one can criticize what is wrong with the team on a message board.

Do you have this response saved in drafts for when people disagree with your over the top, hyperbolic negative reactions. If not, you should...would save you some time.

Nothing I’ve said is over the top. Bruce is an average x and o guy. He’s an elite motivator, program builder, and salesman. We need to hire a top notch x and o guy as our new assistant coach in the offseason. That may not happen with Bruce wanting to keep his son in the spotlight.

Bruh your takes have been so terrible latelely. Oh well such is the internet.

Guess we can only praise Bruce and the squad regardless of outcome on this site. That’s fine, y’all carry on.

It's like talking to a Bunker SSP'er but in reverse.

We played bad. Bruce wasn't perfect. Bryce Brown is a flawed but solid SEC player. Heron is struggling. We finally lost a game. All those can be true without the unnecessary hyperbole and freak out.

I apologize for my furiously angsty behavior last night. As you may have guessed, I was sauced.

One thing that leads people to say things like "Bruce is a weak X's and O's guy" is growing up playing white people basketball. Some people look at Bruce's offense and wonder why we aren't running the Princeton offense. Avery has a ton of "set plays" but there is a pretty solid argument to be made that the very talented rosters he has had don't benefit from all his set plays. Bruce preaches up tempo and most of his set plays are just about getting the person he wants isolated with the ball. The rest of the offense is dribble, drive kick out. If you recruit well, it works very well in college because it allows players to play naturally. Will you occasionally have games like last night, where players force bad passes and bad shots, get cold from the floor and lose a game? Sure, but it isn't "bad x's and o's" it's just a different style of basketball. I also believe that Bruce saves things for big games and the end of the year. I remember him talking about that when we made that nice SEC Tourney run with Harrell, and I know we did some different things when we beat Kentucky for the first time in a long time.

I thought he made a few mistakes last night(I'm still confused as to why we got away from defending the inbound man and making the pass tough after we got them to burn their last TO that way for instance), but generally the offense is the offense and what we do is alright and has worked for us. We run more sets that people think, but we're not overly structured either. Our guys didn't handle their defense well and made bad decisions, were passive at the wrong times and just generally were off. Harper has been struggling of late and it's hurting us a lot. His only solid shooting game in the last 4 was Ole Miss at home. He's been around 30% outside of that game. Not sure we can win a ton of games if he stays there TBH. His assists haven't been above 4 since Arky and that's a problem as well. Gotta have him getting 7 or so at least every other game. Heron having twice as many turnovers as made baskets is a huge problem as well. Not sure that's happened at any point this year. That's probably not an X's and O's problem as much as a player problem.

Him and Davion both need to take it to the basket more. Both are quick enough to do it. Gotta make defenders fear that more. Jared did a couple times last night towards the end of the game with success

Me too.

A little melodramatic in my earlier post, but it still stands that we were the #1 team in the SEC, blowing everyone out, where does our first SEC loss come from?

Seems like it's always the way.

But I know it's not the end of the world. $1 to Gus.
