Creating this for me to be able to have a conversation with myself about the AAF.

I was pleasantly surprised with the entertainment value of the league, so interested to see how well it does. Plus Birmingham wreaked havoc on trash Memphis which adds to my interest. We got us some rando QB that is legit

I completely forgot that this league was starting this year. Guess I’ll watch a little next weekend

Did not watch but a guy I know did and he said it was a solid product. May have to take a sneak peak next time it’s on.

What I saw was solid. I figured it was a league of has beens and something for guys out of college that couldn’t cut it to have an excuse not to get a real job.

It’s legit imo. And the NFL will pluck the guys that prove themselves. Not a fan of only being able to rush 5 but it is what it is.

They've done a solid job with the setup, better than most of these things that have been attempted. That said, the real validity of the league isn't found in the first few weeks. That's the easy part. People tune in b/c it's new and they want some football. Are people still watching by week 5? Is anyone showing up at games in Week 7? I guess we'll see.

I think certain teams will have a larger following than others long term. Football fans in cities/states without a Pro team will have interest. Maybe Arkansas can get a team and hire Gus away.

Would you be interested in trading head coaches straight up between the Iron and Obbern?

I can't blame him. I was asking for $10mm myself. Of course, I was willing to take only $8mm to play for the IRON.
It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry won’t race Dunkin. Kaepernick has a narrative going that he’s some big victim to the nfl. And he winds up sucking ass in the AAFL then his whole narrative and collusion case against the nfl goes to piss.

I told someone the same yesterday. He's a shit QB and will continue to be.

Oh man. They had to cut that dude's shoe off and put his leg in an air cast. That ain't good

when i initially saw the rosters, I though Aaron Murray would make ATL a decent team along with Brad Childress. Thought he'd be a good qb in that league but I guess they suck or he sucks

Not a great look. But there's gotta be something more to the story. One, where was the funding coming from previously? And two, why is this guy willing to pony up $250 million that quickly? That's not chump change
I don’t know, but their plan must have been relying on bigger ticket sales, merchandise sales, and concessions etc to generate enough revenue to pay the players but that’s clearly not happening. The guy basically bought the league though for 250 million. Crazy gamble, but with a good tv contract already in place, he may think he can ride out this season and build on it for a more successful follow up

I'm gonna let myself believe that this guy was on the fence about investing, decided to take the plunge after a couple weeks of seeing how it would do, and the trash XFL is leaking that they couldn't make payroll on a mudslinging campaign

The guy who bought it owns an nhl team and I imagine their business model depends heavily on getting butts in the seats for games. So I’m sure he’s well schooled in community outreach and local marketing promotions to get people to the games. I don’t get the feeling the aaf teams did much of that at all. They seemed more focused on the product on the field. He also owns a big chunk of top golf so he’s knows a thing or about creating a fun, interactive experience for people. I’m just guessing of course. But the promotion for the aaf was so small. I had no idea it was even going on until the day the games started. I think this dude thinks it’s a good product but the people in charge just did a terrible job of promoting and selling it

I agree with that. And maybe the lack of promotion was a funding issue, and all funding was devoted to making sure they could actually make the product happen. I'm just skeptical that they were actually broke to the point of not making payroll, but maybe I'm naive
