... I just agreed with ricederp on TBB in a long thread about NCM. I'm seriously questioning my sanity, but I just don't see how there's a conspiracy to keep the ball away from NCM and believe it's as simple as NCM doesn't get as open as often as others.

Someone please talk me down here... I'm a'fearin for my D&G cred!

It's hard to get open when yore assignment is to block for a screen pass to Ryan Davis.

The "conspiracy" might not exist, but the "gross incompetence" to not target him damn sure does.

Kid is an NFL WR.

As said above, there's no conspiracy to keep NCM's hands away from the ball. NCM just plays in an offensive system that doesn't care too much about the individual's skills, just what number they are on the play sheet. Basically a plug-and-play. So NCM is stuck as neither the screen guy nor the deep man, so he gets basically zero targets. And the coaching staff doesn't care to adjust.

OP, I just don't think we know how to use NCM. And I don't think he fits any of the particular molds that Gus has set for the WRs in his offense.

@Harvey Specter Since Gus has been at Auburn, throwing over the middle has never really been a big part of the offense. Fans have been clamoring for slant routes for years now, even when we had Duke and were throwing them to him. Like @AU HDL said, we throw so many screens and want to throw x many deep balls in a game all while only throwing 20-25 passes in a game, and it leaves few throws to other parts of the field.

It's the problem of the offense in that so much about where we want to try to throw the ball seems determined before the game is ever played. We don't seem to want to waiver much on certain aspects of the passing game or adjust it to what the defense is giving during games. I just think Gus has a warped idea of how to scout and game plan for defenses, and it kills him when they go off script and do things that aren't supposed to be done and that he's never had to prepare for. Lindsey is slowly adding new wrinkles and new concepts. The arrow route design to Ryan Davis in the 3rd quarter to pick up a big first down was beautiful and unlike anything we've seen from Gus.
