This is more for the honks than the GREG but just wanted to put this out there.

Guys we have no shot at whatsoever:
James Franklin
Chip Kelly
Gary Patterson
Mike Gundy
Bob Stoops

Guys we should call but have almost no chance at:
JIMBO
Moose
Petrino
Fuente

Guys I bet would shockingly tell us no:
Brohm
Frost

Can update as candidates come up.

Yeah Gundy is a pretty definite no. I hadn’t considered frost. We could maybe pull him looking at his salary but I’d agree he’s probably out of our reach.

Huge loss for the Boog Board here

if we were set on hiring an unproven corch, it’s a shame we couldn’t get current Bill Clark in 2012 instead of iRobot. Would’ve been an exponentially better hire

I suppose the jury is still out, but he has been much more active in athletics than people would imagine. He wasn’t happy after Clemson
Well that’s good to hear. I’m just jaded I guess. Hopefully he looks to hire a professional and not just call his buddy from Iowa St or pick from a list given to him by a Boog booster.

Bill Clark understands the CEO aspect of being a head coach so much more than Inspector Gadget. He knows probably every HS coach in the state of Alabama which is a big deal in crootin. I think he hates Alabama now because of the UAB shutdown. He takes gambles during games and isn’t some conservative weirdo. He understands the importance of relating to the fans. In terms of realistic hires, he would be the top of my boog list

Agreed. He’s been very active since he’s been on campus. Rubbed some people the wrong way I think because he’s trying to disrupt the current way of doing things. I take that as a good sign

I really don't follow college football enough to have a decent opinion on this. I'd take bill clark or jeremy pruitt in a heartbeat though
Jeremy Pruitt would be a much better hire than what we actually deserve, imo. Very underrated candidate.

ELITE recruiter. Elite defenses. Not afraid to buy the best players possible.

Checks all the boxes you want.

Can’t decide if I like him or Lane more. Both would be tremendous hires. Unfortunate the Boogs won’t seriously consider either.

Why don't we deserve a hire like Pruitt?

WARNING: HOT TAKES AHEAD

First off, Gus and Jay are going nowhere. The Boogs will continue their steady diet of doodoo and enjoy every hot morsel.

Secondly, if and when Auburn makes a change, they HAVE to make a big splash. It's now or never. Therefore, the Fuentes, Brohms, and Campbells of the world need not be considered. Those dudes might be fine ball coarches but they're boring as fvck.

AUBURN needs the football equivalent of BRUCE. CHAMP is of course my first choice. I don't mind Frost either, but he'll go to Nebraska. There's one name I haven't heard anyone mention and is a real long shot, but DAMN if it wouldn't be awesome in every sense. Our youngsters sense of worth would be less than nothing after one practice. I think $7 mil a year and full control gets this done.

TIFWIW, but PMarshall thinks JJ is out (likely before the end of the football season) JGT put out 0.1% chance him coming back, and AU 247 mod put a 5% of JJ returning (with him leaning towards it going down in the next two weeks and as early as next week)

Yeah he’s a dead man walking. No way he’s back. Gus needs an L tonight to ensure he’s gone

Rex would be amazing...

my all-time, pipe dream, never gonna happen in a million years, choice would be Sean Payton... he’s a better, younger, more personable, Petrino... the Saints had been trending downward recently and the pitch would be - Brees is old and will be gone soon, and hopefully Peyton enjoyed the time away from football after the bountygate suspension and realized he was tired of the NFL grind, and enjoyed coaching younger kids... but the Saints defense is showing signs of life for the first time in years and they could be poised for a playoff run this year

anyway - add him to the list of guys we’ll never get...
add that doofus from Western Michigan that’s at Minnesota now to the list of guys we could get that would probably be a disaster

The Saints are getting opportunistic on defense. They've got a decent little squad but their division will keep them out of the playoffs. I have to believe Payton will be gone after next year at the latest.

Anyway, I think between the two REX would be more likely after a couple years off, but a really long shot either way.

Would take Clark in a heart beat. Everything you said is spot on and OBBERN can afford to hire him some damned good assistant coaches/crooters.

The thought of possibly having a professionally run program has kind of got me aroused.
