Tim Howard use to be a stud. Now he's just old and becoming a has been.
You talking about Klinsman? He sucked ass as an actual manager but I wish he was still involved in a developmental aspect for the US soccer federationWe fired the best coach Team USA has ever had
I don’t want to start another thread but it’s just bizarre the world is so accepting of the rules/ officiating of the sport.
The officials, the card system, offsides, penalty kick placement, timekeeping, no video review. Madness.
I really don’t understand the gripe about red and yellow cards. And what is wrong with penalty kick placement?I don’t want to start another thread but it’s just bizarre the world is so accepting of the rules/ officiating of the sport.

The cards are just weird and arbitrary to me. And then you play a man down the whole game with 1 red card.I really don’t understand the gripe about red and yellow cards. And what is wrong with penalty kick placement?
Video review is a slippery slope bc it can potentially slow the game down to an unwatchable lull if they start reviewing everything. I enjoy the flow of the game and don’t want it to turn into over officiated non sense like the nfl or college basketball. Goal line technology like hockey is the only thing I’m for
I'd like to see a blue line in soccer where once you possess the ball inside the 18yd area there's no offsides.I do think a hockey style soccer league would be cool though. Just adopt their substitution/rotation rules and create a penalty box for people that get yellow cards. That’d be fun to watch
Yeah. I think that’d create a lot of spacing problems for the defense since the field is so big. For better or worse, you’d start seeing massive amounts of scoring.I'd like to see a blue line in soccer where once you possess the ball inside the 18yd area there's no offsides.
Google tells me Premiere league averages less than 3 goals per game. Personally I'd find it infinitely more interesting if it was closer to 5.Yeah. I think if you implement that blue line rule, you’d see the avg be more around 8-12. And i think smaller teams would have zero chance to competeGoogle tells me Premiere league averages less than 3 goals per game. Personally I'd find it infinitely more interesting if it was closer to 5.
Seems high. Not like they'd ever change anything anyway. Maybe move into like 15 yds. That penalty box is too big anyway.I think if you implement that blue line rule, you’d see the avg be more around 8-12. And i think smaller teams would have zero chance to compete
If you eliminate off sides then you’re just gonna see a bunch of man to man defense and that benefits the super technical/athletic offensive players just like in the NBA. The lower level teams would have no chance. And you’d also see way more penaltiesSeems high. Not like they'd ever change anything anyway. Maybe move into like 15 yds. sounds like a win/winIf you eliminate off sides then you’re just gonna see a bunch of man to man defense and that benefits the super technical/athletic offensive players just like in the NBA. The lower level teams would have no chance. And you’d also see way more penalties
Yeah I wouldn’t eliminate all together just in the scoring area. Would be cool to see the best with some more space to work.If you eliminate off sides then you’re just gonna see a bunch of man to man defense and that benefits the super technical/athletic offensive players just like in the NBA. I'm despondent. I drank most of the hotel mini bar. I'm a few blocks from Wrigley and I don't even want to go see the Cubs now.
That's as bad as I've felt since the Rose Bowl and it might be worse. It's 5 years before I can even see any redemption from this. When I walked out of the Rose Bowl I at least had some tiny hope we might be really good the next season.
Hard for me to get that upset about it bc I know that this squad is terrible. I’m gonna miss having the US in the tournament, but this team really is over the hill and lethargic. Good stuff, thanks.Since there is some real soccer love here, I thought this article did a pretty solid job detailing the void of prime aged talent on this squad. A few of you may appreciate reading it.

@jeramye I'm with you. Maybe there is a silver lining here that this will be the end for a good portion of the player pool and hopefully for Arena and Gulati and others. Hopefully, we gut the team for the friendlies in November and start with a fresh group of youngsters now that it seems we have a solid group of 18-21 year old players.
Wow. I think Bruce is a good coach but should have never come back.Bruce Arena just got fired. Fantastic news and hope there are more shakeups to come

Not sure he should be so condescending about the economics of the mls considering he comes from the most monetarily mismanaged club in the world. But I agree with him about a lot of the rest.
