Maybe as nice as Memphis, and that's probably a stretch. The ceiling is leaking, the entire place smells like mall pretzels and tired desperation. Good think I got comped UA Lounge or I'd feel like I needed to wander around and offer some of these sad sack employees a hand to KTS.

I almost did that with a car but it wound up not working out. Was really disappointed cause I had a whole road trip planned and everything
Yeah, I'm taking some back highways through Virginia, NC, and Tennessee. It's been too long since I've had a nice road trip.

The first two 4Runners I thought I'd found both fell through. This one is a 98 with under 100k miles and is 4WD. Hard to find that combination locally.

Hard to find that combination anywhere.

I flew to Charlotte to pick up a car one time and the ****ers sold it before I could get there and didn’t bother telling me.
Opposite happened to me. Bought a car from a dude. Then bought a plane ticket. Morning that I was supposed to fly up to DC, he calls me and says it was his wife’s car and she didn’t want to sell it. Luckily I got all my money back from him and from delta, but I had a bunch of plans in DC that I had to cancel

That's my boy.
Worst part about the whole deal is that I’m not even sure they sold it. Pretty sure they made an error on the price when they posted it online and had the car parked inside a locked gate while I was there. It certainly looked a lot like it. The salesman confirmed the price to me over the phone before I left.

I was actually looking for a new whip this week. Found one I like about 1,000 miles away. Started pricing having it shipped and it was only about $500. Haven’t pulled the trigger so maybe it’s more but anyway yeah Newark is pretty depressing.

Maybe you'll have better luck than me. I was being told $600 but with all the added on fees it was really around $1000. Hell, I only spent $7500 on the truck and the one way ticket was $130. Plus you can't put a price on a weekend away from the wife.

7500 on 98 4Runner seems steep but I know they retain their value pretty well

I've seen a ton of them with 200k+ miles selling for $7500 or more. I've seen low mileage (60-70k) 3rd Gens (1996-2002) sell for $11-12K. This is just another project for me though, not really looking at it as a typical car purchase. I'm going to but a supercharger on it and play around with the fuel injection and then set it up for trail riding and camping. The 5VZ motor is one of the toughest that's ever been built and will last forever if you take care of it.

Yeah. I’ve read they’ve retained they’re value bc people love the old body type

The only Toyota that looks better to me is the FJ60/62.

This is the wife's 3rd Gen 4Runner in it's present state:

This is what I'm getting when I pay off my current ride next year:

Purpose built, utilitarian. None of the soccer mom nonsense they're putting out these days.

There's a company that makes a grill replacement for the 4Runner to have the old style look. I'm trying to decide if I like it I think I'm going to order one:

Serious Toyota folks might call me sacriligeous for it, but I think I'm gonna put a built Chevy 350 and tranny in it. I want to find one with a good frame and body and just basically replace everything else :)
I’d go with a carburated LS1 crate motor. I’m not a diehard Toyota guy so ZFG what those guys think. I’m all about some purpose built vehicles. And I hate all of the new fancy comfy crap. If I wanted to feel like I was riding in a Bentley limousine, I’d buy a Bentley limousine.

That would be a damned fine motor but probably cost me twice as much.

I'm a little bummed, gang. I'm looking at the radar and if I go the route I wanted to go I'm going to be driving through the rain all day instead of enjoying mountain highways and fall foliage. Looks like I'm gonna have to drive south to Atlanta. How boring.

Did you have to go through Atlanta?

Yeah. I woke up and the weather had cleared up some but I figured it might be best to go that route in a vehicle I wasn't all that familiar with. She probably would've done fine on the hillier route but better safe than sorry, I guess. Crashing in the soulless heart of the New South tonight then headed home in the morning.

Sorry to hear that.

Spent about twelve hours there one day back in the Spring. Such a cluster that Delta gave me 60K skymiles out of guilt. It wasn't worth it.
