He recruited Bryce and he was a relative nobody but could could shoot the lights out. He got Jared. He got okeke. He got Dunbar, who was not all that reliable from deep but could catch fire any minute. Did he just not hit the target with the last recruiting class or was the exodus of Jared unfathomable so he didn’t account for that during recruiting?

Jamal hitting 45% from 3. Samir was 42% last year. Danjel is supposed to be about a 40% 3pt shooter. Sammy and Danjel been ultra trash from outside the last few weeks. Danjel all year really.

There’s really no way to replace Bryce he a 3 pt legend. I don’t know I still think we got some decent enough shooters. Those 3. Jvon can make. Ant can make some wide open looks he gets. Isaac gonna start making more cause he’s just a stud. Flanny is our 2nd best 3 pt shooter in conference play so far at 37.5%. To be clear I don’t think he’s remotely close to a ‘shooter’ with that janky ass J but that’s how bad we’ve been.

Barely got to watch yesterday so I'm not sure how many great looks we got from 3 versus how many were rushed or contested...but last year we had guys that were outstanding at making contested 3's and generally speaking this year we have guys that need to be setup for great looks to hit them at a decent rate. To make that even more of a problem we don't have a ton of guys who can create shots for other guys right now. Samir had been pretty solid at dribble/drive dish stuff but the level of athlete in the SEC is giving him issues. Not sure J’Von is consistent enough to be a problem for opposing defenses as the smart ones seem to be staying on shooters/bigs so they don't allow him to hurt them both scoring and getting assists and they are basically daring him to be a scorer and he just doesn't look like a guy who can get you 25 when teams try to make him the scorer instead of the facilitator.

It may sort itself out over the next week or two, but since SEC play started we've kinda looked like a team who has starting guards that should be the backup guards on a good team and we don't have any backup guards at all. If that look continues we won't win any road SEC games outside of maybe trash squads like Ole Miss and the Vols. I'm just hoping The Clam can stay lit enough to pull us to a great home record and that we will naturally shoot better in our gym. It would be a shame to have the possible healthy/good Wiley season wrecked by bad guard play and poor shooting...something you never expect from a Bruce Pearl team.

Yeah I wouldn’t consider many of them bad looks but we definitely aren’t executing the offense well in general. Everything looks out of wack. I think both Bama and UF kinda sagged on us trying to take away Austin and the drive. Daring us to make 3s that aren’t wide open but aren’t really that contested either. Not the rhythm 3s you want by any means but shots HYGs should be making at 35+% clip.

Tying this in to the rest of our woes the missed layups are even more bizarre. Having to finish over and around longer, better athletes but we’ve missed a bunch of absolute gimmes.

We still managed to score in the 80s first 3 SEC contests despite slow starts and mostly what we thought of as subpar shooting. Oh well I’m not that worried about it yet don’t have to play true road games in the tourney.

I would add that not having anyone in that one recruiting class because of the Danjel/Austin fiasco is probably another reason we don’t have a shooter that we have been developing for a few years.
Yeah didn’t help although not sure who we’d have gotten. EJ but he can’t shoot. We did add Jamal who’s been our best.

I still don’t think we’re this bad. Look at the other SEC squads don’t really see anyone better. Arkansas probably. Would kill for Isiah Joe but they also play a 5 guard lineup. I’m not willing to say Bama is a better shooting team. Just can’t but wouldn’t argue it.

Kentucky can’t shoot worth a fug. Not sure who else to even consider. Vandy before Nesmith got hurt. Maybe LSU is good.

Anyway tldr think we have enough shooters but they all can’t hit shit lately and we need to create better rhythm on O to get the ball to go in the basket more.

hard to explain or even reason how Danjel's 3pt percentage. He's not taking bad shots and he's not having 'bad' misses either. They're just not falling for him and it's really killing us.

Samir, I can understand his percentage dropping just because he's taking a different variety of shots than what he did last year. A lot more contested off the dribble shots vs some spot up catch and shoot corner looks that are way easier. Still should be doing better though. But I don't expect him to be a 40% dude like I thought Danjel would be

Danjel has a beautiful stroke but I've noticed his lean back shot and lack of arc are recipes to be an inconsistent shooter. I don't recall either being issues when he was a freshman. The thing that made Bryce special was that he had BEAUTIFUL arc on his shots and his body was very straight even when shooting off the dribble or slightly fading away. His only knock was that he jumped forward. I've often wondered if Bryce owes his shot to his dad, as it was known Bruce allowed his dad to come coach him privately, or Person.

Purifoy's shot hasn't looked as smooth this year, even in warmups. Can't put my finger on exactly what is different, but something is a little rough where it used to be so silky smooth. Hopefully he gets it figured out and is a force down the stretch like last year.

Bryce worked his absolute ass off. He just shot more than anyone else on our team and probably anyone in the SEC on a daily or weekly basis. Kid put in the hours like a madman. There is working on your game and then there is WORKING on your game. Most people at this level practice pretty hard. A few are absolutely obsessed with it. Bryce was one of those

That's a huge factor, imo. **** Chuck Person.
