Will Kiffin be at FAU next year?

I thought it was certain until Mora got canned yesterday, I don’t see him turning down UCLA if offered. He bought a house here and absolutely LOVES living and coaching in Boca. Nobody has any idea what he’s thinking but until yesterday we all assumed he’d be back.

OT but Briles is our for sure if he gets an offer, Kiffin took over the offense after week 4 and we haven’t lost since.

That was the weirdest thing I remember about our OC search.

Once we got Stidham to sign, Im not sure why anyone actually wanted Baby Briles as the OC since he was no longer required to get Stidham.

@ThrustMaxwell remember this (he was in agreement with me)

Yeah, dude's a scrub. I never understood Stidham's recruitment at all. It was known Rhett was leaving, anyone with half a brain knew we weren't hiring the WR coach from Baylor after the scandal, and yet Stidham still came to play in an offense that doesn't really suit his strengths. I guess it's getting a little better with more of Chip's gameplan in place but was Chip the known guy they were telling Stidham was coming the whole time?

Seemed like a lot of cloak and dagger just to end up with Chip.

I always thought the idea of getting baby briles was to get daddy briles even if it was having daddy briles in the shadows helping his little boy. That is how I remember the conversations at least.

There was talk of that but it never really made sense. I think it was smart not too hire the guy, given the PR and the current climes. Helluva football coach though.

I think Ole Miss hiring him would be a home run

Actually might be a good hire for them.

It's not happening though. Lane is fun and right now he's one of the most interesting things in CFB, but what he really needs in order to gain legitimacy with AD types is to be good while being uninteresting and non-controversial. His twitter fun is great for me, but it's not great for the odds of him landing a better gig. You might get by with some mild trolling and abnormal jokes on social media if you are the young up and coming coach that is new to the scene, but if you have a record of being out of control and immature it's the worst possible route to go if you want important people to take you seriously.

That said, his formations and plays melded with the Briles stuff is some of the most interesting offensive stuff in CFB right now. It's going to get copied by some smart coordinators elsewhere soon.

If he doesn’t get an opportunity at one of the big openings this year then I bet he’ll be at Fau for awhile. I imagine he’ll be picky. Don’t think he’d bolt for a mid tier gig like if Purdue or Miss St became available

There’s very little of Briles influence in our current offense, it’s 98% Kiffin. It seems so obvious but clearly many coaches don’t get it, his ability to put players in positions to succeed is unmatched. He’s turned the most inaccurate QB I’ve ever seen into an efficient passer while continuing to use run schemes that allow the best RB in the state to dominate. He wanted nothing to do with offense coming in but had to take over after Briles proved his inability to run an offense. Kiffin is the best offensive coach in CFB by a large margin IMO, but wanted to prove his worth as the head man. I don’t see Lane having the ability to be a HC at a big program where he’s required to keep donors/admin/BOT happy but that’s just my opinion. What he’s done here has nothing to do with any of those transfers, he’s taken a roster of 3-9 kids to a conference championship in 1 season.

He’s also an awesome guy who players will do anything for. I obviously had preconceived thoughts on him mostly based on his past as portrayed by the media, he’s none of that crap. He’s a genuinely good person really good at coaching ball, just happens to be a different personality type than most “football coaches”. Monte being around is by far the coolest experience of this whole thing for me, that guy is a legend

Forgive my ignorance on the matter but are you on the staff? Where is your obvious first hand knowledge coming from if not? Sounds good though.

man...could you imagine Joey Saltwater at Florida? I don't see it happening this year, but i think he would be great at that program and able to lock down a lot of in state talent.

I think the Briles clan has some nice wrinkles, but I don't love their offense as a stand alone thing. I wanted AU to incorporate some of their stuff but I wasn't all that fired up about going 100% Briles when that stuff was being discussed. I haven't watched enough FAU to know, just saw a few plays where the formation and pace looked Briles-y. I think Kiffin is great at taking things someone else does and making them his own, using those things to isolate his playmakers in great spots and make the most out of his other guys. He's really good at that stuff. I'd echo your points about him being a HC at a big program, I just can't see it. But if you can let him just call and design plays most of the time he's gonna put up points like crazy.

He may not be the guy he's portrayed as being, but he seems to love playing up to that perceived character. Maybe he's just that fun loving and goofy. I think it's entertaining as hell, I'm just not sure it's putting him on the path to getting another UT/USC type gig.

Your last paragraph is spot on. He loves messing with people but it definitely hurts his chances at a big time job.

He’s real big on quality living and being able to go in public without being noticed/harassed, the only thing Auburn provides that would intrigue him is the chance to knock off sabear
So he’d be a better fit in a huge media market where CFB isn’t the #1 focus. Can’t get much further from Auburn than that.

No doubt. That is why I thought he would have been the absolute perfect fit at UH last year, but the decision makers could not get over the off the field baggage that he brings. All my UH buddies are kicking each other in the balls right now for not having enough pull to make that happen. He would have crushed that conference and cleaned up cruiting with the local kids. Don’t know who, but some program will take the leap and give him another shot. Just hope it ain’t an SEC school. Dude can flat out coach and bring in the studs!

what is this off-field baggage you speak of? please don't say his twitter is "baggage".

The guy hasn't done anything to warrant the perception the media has created about him. They painted this picture of a trouble maker and everybody just buys it, couldn't be further from the truth. It's embarrassing that UH couldn't do their due diligence and simply took the media's word as fact, but I sure appreciate their weak leadership

Come on man really? Dude is a whoremonger and lets the puss dictate much of his life. I could care less, but giving the guy the keys to yore multimillion $ program and having to worry every night if some soph sorority chick is going to popup carrying a Little Kiffy ain’t easy to overlook.

This is exactly what I mentioned. You’ve heard things and simply repeat them as if you know for certain they are true. Can you provide any such instance where he was “whoremongering”? He’s had the same girlfriend for as long as I’ve known him.

The best part is how low key he really while all these rumors keep spreading. You did a great job proving my point, fantastic

Ok bud. Yeah I can, but no I am not going to post them on the internet. I have a video on my phone that proves otherwise. Also have a pretty funny story about why he was late to a certain Natty that he was coaching in. I have a few very good friends that are super close with him/worked with him for years. Again, I could care less and think he is a great coach, but his drive for snatch has always been full speed. That is no secret. Maybe he has dialed it back over the last year. Don’t know and don’t care, but my info does not come from ESPN, or some messge board.

thats all I needed to hear.

“His drive for snatch has always been full speed” sounds like your average straight male. You’re making yourself look stupid, and you must care if you keep posting about how bad a guy he is with no rationale

4panic is really good friends with Kirby Smart. I’m sure he has plenty of stories about Lane from their times at Bama.

As do many people, I’ve stated multiple times it would be foolish for a big school like a Auburn to hire him as HC. Im not promoting the guy for a job. I disagree that he’s a whoremonger, shoot me

But you did get pretty defensive because @4Panic accused him of being one.

Hence why I am still defending it, that’s a ridiculous accusation. The other stuff is fine, if he’s a bad guy for chasing women we all suck.

This is real good!

Why is that a ridiculous accusation? You are one of the few (really the only one) that I have seen that doesn't believe that accusation.
