The highlight
"Under Houston, the Dukes went from allowing 28.67 points per game in 2015 to just 21.2 in 2016. Even more impressively, the Dukes allowed just 15 points per game over their four postseason matchups -- all of which came against ranked opponents. JMU Athletic Director Jeff Bourne hit a homerun with Houston."

I asked this the other day, but I often wonder why these successful D2 coaches don't get shots at FBS programs. Surely he could get a DC or OC (I don't know what side of the ball specializes in) gig a decent sized school. He's only making 375k at JMU and that's less than some position coaches at big programs. @GregMadia can you possibly weigh in on this? Curious to know how many coaches in JMU's division have moved on to FBS gigs

FWIW, J Mad is D1 FCS, not D2.

That's what OSU's OC did and they are killing it. Jim Tressel is best success story I would think. It is interesting because they've proven they can run a program more so than a coordinator in D1

My thought is that Mike Houston will eventually have his shot at an FBS program. What he's done at JMU is surround himself with an experienced staff. Defensive coordinator Bob Trott has NFL experience. Offensive coordinator Donnie Kirkpatrick has been a head coach before and worked at a few FBS programs including East Carolina under Skip Holtz and Ruffin McNeill. JMU has been proactive in trying to keep the staff together. They gave Houston a pay bump after the championship and several of his assistants saw a bump in pay too. And when I've spoken to athletic director Jeff Bourne about this, he's been aware about having to be proactive to retain the staff.

That's straight fire right there, @GregMadia. How much longer do you think he'll hang around in Harrisonburg? If he keeps doling out the poundings, and continues to go deep into the playoffs, winning multiple NC's, it can't be much longer until a nice offer is extended his way.

Agree but Greg understands his role. Provide content, answer questions about the team when necessary. He is not there to be our buds. He is the shop owner and runs a dang good store. He doesn't blurr the lines where it can become personal. He has mod powers and would hate from a personal issue to interfere with business. I respect the heck out of him for that.
