Well, it's here. Battle of the Blue Bloods rd 2. The Boogs gonna stroll into Lexington this weekend for another epic battle with the current SEC leaders. What treat for us that Sir Isaac is back and should be even more ready fort his match. Kentucky isn't some impenetrable force, but they'll be looking for revenge after the way the Boogs embarrassed them earlier this season in the Clam. But not so fast if those Wild cats think it'll be easier bc of their home court advantage. Enter young super stud Jaylin Williams to add a new unstoppable force to help alleviate the Boogs' offensive woes. Not sure UK has anyone on their oafish squad that can stay in front of young Jaylin and keep him from getting to the rim. Looking for him and sir Isaac to both get in the double digits for the Boog win.

Like OP says, I do think the emergence of Jaylin helps us a lot in this matchup. Gives us more depth to deal with Richards and Montgomery and allows us to keep Okoro out of the 4 rotation and always defending one of their guards, preferably Quickley who is having a ridiculous run of play recently.

Agreed. Having a new 4 suddenly emerge as an impact player could be a huge factor in this one. We did a nice job on Richards last time around, but its always nice to have another guy who can help defensively in the paint. Williams has been delivering a ton of momentum impacting highlight-reel plays as well that can help either spur a run or stop one by UK.

Samir was incredible in the first meeting. 23 points, 5 boards and only 1 turnover. On the road at UK would be an opportunity for a legendary performance from Isaac. I have a feeling this could be the game he takes over on offense and goes for 20+.

To pull this one off, we have to do a better job on Quickley and Maxey. They went for 22 and 23 in the last meeting. Quckley is averaging around 20 per game since then. Issac and Samir are going to have to prevent those two from getting to the basket at will.

Watching the meltdown from the Cats if we beat them again after shooting 40+ FTs would be amazing.
I would never ask for anything else until we play them in the SEC tourney when we meet for round 3 for the ship. Then again in the Final four of course when we meet for round 4.

Announcers on the LSU/UF game discussing the return of Okoro at length. Lunardi says the committee will give us some consideration for the losses without him. Announcers went way further and said Okoro is a top 3 pick and thus we should not be penalized heavily for any loss without him given how much better we are when he's playing. Nice to see this narrative being discussed and hopefully it translates to selection Sunday, particularly if we could pull off a 3-0 finish and be back in the running for a 2 seed.

I think it was Lunardi who said we might get a small asterisk for that UGA loss but it was a game we should’ve won anyway. As bad as their record is, they’ve had a lot of close losses(10 or less). We beat them bad and they had one other blow out loss in conference but pretty competitive otherwise.

That's been my biggest takeaway from the emergence of young Jaylin...another body at the 4 allowing Okoro to always defend the best perimeter player. That's yuge vs a team like UK. Wiley is one of the few bigs in the league who can go toe to toe with Richards so, with the post equalized, the matchups shift to the backcourt and keeping Okoro involved in that matchup makes that a lot more manageable as well. Then game comes down to who can make more plays down the stretch, which has obviously been a trademark of this team (or dumb "Luck" per kenpom).

A key to the game, which will be difficult to achieve on their home court. Get Kentucky in foul trouble. They’re playing 8 guys in the rotation. When they get to 22 or more fouls (only one of that was at Rupp), they’re 3-4 with 2 OT wins and another close 7-point win. Given that we’re the deeper team, we have to be the more physical, aggressive, attacking team Saturday. Don’t settle for contested shots. Get downhill and put pressure on them to defend without fouling. They’re capable of doing that, but IMO we still have to try to exploit that as much as possible.

They are getting pre-rustled over at Rupps Rafters already. One guy claims they’ve outplayed us by 10+ points in each of the past four games. Only reason they’ve ever lost is because cheatin’ BRUCE has an under the table deal with the refs. Lmao maybe learn how to guard a straight line drive without fouling?

I NEED a Boog dub to see the fallout over there

Man it would be so sweet to get this one. Would be 3 straight over our rival including a neutral court elite 8 and a road win. Could pretty much say we own them at this point if it happens.

But it’s gonna be a toughy. They are playing great. Think we are still sorting things out. Gonna need about 30 mins from Austin. 20 mins from Jaylin would be ideal. Key gonna be Austin getting the better of Nick and our bench contributing. Need about 20 pts from the bench.

I actually feel pretty good about our matchup with their guards. Ashton not much of threat from outside. I don’t think Quickley is that tough a cover although he keeps getting better. Just can’t really leave him from deep or let him draw those cheap fouls. I definitely don’t expect Samir to have the same success driving and drawing fouls like he did rd 1 at the Clam.

Pretty scared of Quickley based on the way he's played lately and Maxey is a dude who can go for 25 on any given day. Those are the 2 guys I a most concerned with even though we have good defenders for them.

I think we're gonna have to have all the things you pointed out be we really need (and are due for) a day where we hit the 3 ball as well. UK doesn't give you anything, but they attempt to protect the paint and stop drives even if it means giving you some looks from deep. They just hope their length makes them more contested looks than you'd like. We haven't had a day where 4 of 5 guys are all hitting the triple and look like they are in good flow. I think we're gonna need that kind of thing to happen to get a W.

Yeah and they did both have good games at the Clam. Although as much as Cat Nation want to bitch about the FTs those 2 went to the line 22 times.

As usual we shot the ball like ass in that one but got to the line and on the boards. Didn’t let anyone else do much for them. Do our thing and sprinkle in a few made shots should have a chance.

The foul call advantage at Rupp.

In 12 games away from Rupp, Kentucky is averaging 21.92 fouls per game. At Rupp, that number drops to 15.38 fouls per game. In conference games, it's very similar: 21.63 FPG away from Rupp, 16 FPG at Rupp. Kentucky leads the league in foul differential between home and away games in conference. You average 5.63 more fouls per game called on the road than at home in SEC play. You're third in the league in fewest fouls called against at home with 16, behind LSU (14.9) and Texas A&M (15.5). That seems to suggest, at least this year, you have a decided advantage in fouls calls at home over everyone else in the SEC.
