Boogs v Florida

Yes hoping MSU can handle business this week. Even if we somehow tie with them at 13-5 and get the 1 seed I’d have a hard time bitching about much. I just see Barnes and G Williams getting the SEC awards in that scenario.

I could see Bruce and Barnes splitting the COY award. The problem with us and the POY award is I’ve heard three different analysts say that each of our guards is the best. Since we don’t have that one go-to guy, it will probably cost any of our guys the POY award.

Frustrating loss. The lack of offensive execution, the turnovers, the lapses on defense. Everything was a big bowl of meh.

Proud of the way these guys fought back into the game. This is a tough bunch that is never really out. We just didn’t make enough offensive plays or defensive stops to win the game.

I put a lot of this loss on Bruce. The decision to play zone when they were having success against it, the offensive struggles, and his late-game offensive play designs. Heron was a beast all night offensively, and I know Bruce wants Jared running the show. But they couldn’t stop Heron off the dribble. We have to find a way to mix up our late-game offense and get Heron the ball and let him make a play. Still love Bruce and wouldn’t want anyone else coaching us though.
I thought the zone really frustrated them at times. Then someone would get a wide open look in the corner. We still haven’t used it enough to not fug it up yet. I’m just hoping we’ll be more comfortable in it come tourney time and have a better feel of when to get in and out of it.

I though the game really came down to Chiozza controlled the tempo and Jared didn’t have a good game. Still had a chance to get the W. Frustrating watching them use the entirety of the shot clock and not be able to force more TOs.

And of course they were on from 3, hit a 3/4 court shot and Bryce only had 6. Oh well such is basketball.

Last night wasn’t a bad loss, but would have been a huge win. A few weeks ago I posted this 4 game stretch would define us. We went 2-2. The 2 losses we battled back big time! So I am proud of the effort and never giving up.

We are physically worn out and to a degree, mentally. We have been playing at such a high level for so long while also losing guys to injury and getting banged up.

Iverson Jr. has been so huge for us in many ways this season. His defense, his 3’s at big moments, his driving to the goal drawing a foul. But when he is bad he is really bad. And sometimes his way of getting out of a rut is popping a 3 5-7 feet behind the 3 point line with 20 seconds on the shot clock lol. Sometimes he makes them. But anyway way what kills me most about him is why he still will just pick up his dribble quite often forcing guys to run to him to get a hand off pass. Those plays fvck up the whole flow of a possession. First we waste about 8 seconds doing that. 2nd a shitty shot always follows because there is no time to set up anything.

We go as far as Jared will take us. He needs to play smarter. Davion Mitchell improved a lot IMO over the past 4 games, but last night wasn’t his best of this 4 game stretch.

Stapha is a gamer. I have faith in him.

Dunbar and Murray, they seem to play bigger than they are. They fight so hard, especially Murray. If we go far into the tourney it will be because Murray, Dunbar, and Chuma are doing the little things.

I think Spencer is going to keep getting better because he has no choice. He is our only real big left.

If Bryce and Jared are off it kills us. We have others like I listed above that cam step up, popping a 30’ 3 with 18 seconds on the shot clock isn’t how you accomplish that though.

I am proud of our team. Right now we are just too undermanned. I think realistic odds are we make the Round of 32, hopefully for Sweet 16.

If Bryce and Harper play really well, we can beat anyone.

Yeah, the zone gave them problems early in the first half. They had a stretch where they were 2-15 from the floor. Then they started overloading sides and confusing us. I would’ve liked us to switch it up more, but I imagine Bruce was trying to cognizant of foul trouble, which we did avoid.

Agree about Chiozza and Jared. Would love to see us take some of that load off Jared at times. Mitchell isn’t quite consistent enough yet. So maybe get it to Heron and let him work that big screen game a little more.

The 5 days off after the regular season should be a very welcomed break for this bunch. We do look like we could use a bit of a break and rest. Staph looked like the freshest player in orange last night. He didn’t exactly have the kind of rest you’d want, but he’s did look more rested than the rest of the team.
