Hurting boys. Proud but hurting. The effort to get back in that one was amazing. I thought we were toast down 16, even with all that time left. But this team can get so hot offensively that you wonder how we can have such bad stretches at times.
Love Bruce, but thought he was culpable in that terrible stretch from the last 2 minutes of the 1st into the first few minutes of the 2nd, which essentially put us in a place where we had to be perfect to get a W. Harper and Brown were exhausted, Malik had been great and wasn't playing enough and the minute we gave up the TO and they hit a quick 3 he needed to use a TO. We hadn't used one yet and our guys needed to catch a quick break and be sorted out to close the half. Then the 2nd half switch to zone was totally foreseeable and Cal talked about them expecting it. They tore it up. Man was fine in the 1st, it's not like we gave up 50. Until the late run due to bad turnovers and losing some 50/50 scrambles we gave up 8 quick points that only got them to 35. Man was not the problem. That was a bad, predictable move that really hurt.
We've looked more like ourselves without Wiley to be honest, both yesterday and when he played limited minutes vs aTm. I think we may be best served and most dangerous as a small ball team that rotates Mac/Ho/Chuma at the 5 and just tries to make the game a frenzy. That's our element. Hope we could have Wiley be a new element for us but to this point it seems what he brings us actually keeps us from being ourselves. But Mac and Ho have to be more in control and not pick up silly fouls. Don't try to get steals or contest every shot a big tries to take over you. Keep them in front and if some dude hits hooks and 10 foot jumpers over your hands all day we're just going to have to outscore it somehow. Can't live with them in foul trouble. Luckily we won't play too many teams with the size UK has.
