++++++BOOGZ vs KY++++++ this is not an official thread

I’m getting pumped up for this game at the Clam! Should be a good one. I’m going to pick my Cats over Bruce’s HYG’s in a close one. I feel like our PG is getting into a nasty zone right now, and I can see some real improvement in two of our bigs, Nick and EJ! Here’s to hoping for an injury free, up and down, fast paste barn burner!
Some guys on here may think I'm Corky for such a simple outlook on this game, but I think for AU, it all hinges on where the UK defenders pick up Bryce and Jared on defense. If they sag with their heels around the 3pt line, or even sag inside the arc, Jared and Bryce may set an new SEC record for 3's in a game, which I believe we already hold the title, or at least tied for it. However, if the UK defenders stay on them, or at least at arms length at all times, out as far as 4-5ft from the arc, they'll start launching moonshots in a panic and everything will go downhill from there. This game is going to depend on Jared and Bryce not going full-on panic mode and trusting their teammates to help out. Also, Malik and Ant have to stay out of foul trouble and on the floor. And Doughty just needs to play his game under control. But this entire thing hinges on the UK perimeter D and how Jared and Bryce respond.

I think you’re on to something here. If we can have some actual presence around the rim, block a shot or two, maybe our perimeter defense will tighten up. So I agree with you about the perimeter D; but I think that really will be determined by our ability to protect the rim.

One of the understated issues we've had in our losses is that Jared has gotten past his initial defender and then got shots blocked or couldn't make the contested shots early in games and that upset everything. It makes him/others less likely to drive and then we get into a really bad place where we take entirely too many contested 3's. Our guys REALLY need to push through a few blocks or missed shots around the rim and keep attacking if they can get by their defender on the perimeter. We've been letting people off the hook by reverting to bad, contested, off the bounce 3's.

This was a big issue in Oxford. Harper was 1/5 inside the arc and so was Brown. Those early misses made them combine to take 28 3's themselves. Harper was 1/9 inside the line vs Duke. The only game we lost where the numbers don't look like this is NC State, but they ran us off the line and we just couldn't get our starters to make anything inside of the arc. I remember early blocks and contests in the paint really throwing us off in that game though.

Nothing all that interesting here but it’s still something to read

"In essence, Wiley might have the brightest long-term future of anyone on Auburn’s roster. But his individual skill-set just doesn’t mesh with the rest of Auburn’s roster. When he’s on the court, the Tigers play slower, and have one less shooter to beat you from deep."

Not sure that Chuma isn't our best long term prospect, but the main point is something I agree with. Doesn't mean we can't be good with him on the floor, but it does have some negatives.

using my Alabama public school education I come up with .366 from 2 on the season... he just hasn’t finished at the rim consistently, and is getting the shit end of the whistle... the good thing is, it’s the only real weakness he has - and is the main reason he’s here this year and may still be here next year

but if he develops a tear drop or 10-12 footer that he can get off cleanly and consistently - our offense just takes one more step forward... it’s still not as key as Chuma and Mac - but it’s probably the biggest secondary skill anyone on our roster could develop

Preach. Teams been cutting off the 3 and the rim gotta have that mid range game. Gotta be able to get it to Austin for the thunder slam or Mac for the oop when the big steps in to block him at the goal. Bryce too to a lesser extent that midrange spot is open for the taking.

I've got no data to back it up and nothing really to prove this, but I think Jared got a reputation for being a successful flopper the last couple of years, and that reputation has caught up to him where legitimate fouls aren't being called

Bruce said UK is 33-3 agianst the Boogs since 1990. So Bruce has had two of those wins? That's kind of nuts how much they totally dominated the Boogs even during Cliff's best years.

absolutely... it’s definitely anecdotal, but since we got into conference play he’s gotten maybe 1 charge drawn and seems like he’s been knocked to the ground at least 4 times, plus a couple of others that could’ve been called

he definitely earned his reputation on defense, but on offense, idk what he has to do... when he goes into a guys body - no call... so when he tries to avoid contact - he’s just not good finishing over length

he’s really struggled at the rim this year... he’s been so good everywhere else it hasn’t really been worth complaining about - but it’s been a consistent issue all season

I can’t really get a feel for what kind of result to expect today but I’ll say this: it’s nice to be favored against a Top 15 Kentucky team in hoops. Thankful for Bruce, this and every morning.

guess i was aware of this via every thread i've read at RR. Gonna take a minute to pull even on that sh!t but I think the younger Pearl can get us close.

When I posted this, I didn’t realize that AU was top 5 for attempted and made 3’s. I also didn’t realize that UK was ranked 286th in defending the 3. Stats greatly discussed on multiple other boards so forgive me if inaccurate.

Usually Saturdays are my sleep in days, but not this morning. Wife got mad a couple hours ago when she smelled the coffee. Ah hell, I pretty much slept in every Saturday during huthut season this past Fall.
DISCLAIMER: This is NOT to be construed as a Saturday morning coffee thread.

As mentioned ITT already, a big key to the outcome of this game today will be the 3 point line.
