It seems Kam Martin will be “The Guy” heading into the season...

Looks like Gus’s amateurish philosophy of “veteran > football playing ability” continues to live another season.

KMart will get embarrassed against the meat of our SEC schedule if he’s expected to carry the load, IMO.

Also heard through the grapevine that Boobie Whitlow is not in the mix at RB, which makes sense for a Gus-coached team, since he showed the most promise in the spring.

Thoughts?

Classic guy on the bench is always better

We haven’t even put on helmets yet

Kam, Boobie, and Asa will all split carries in the first 3 or 4 games and then one will emerge as the definite starter. That’s how it’s worked every year under Gus except for 2014 when CAP entered the year as THE GUY.

To the non fvcking retards that post on this board.......Running the ball has not and will not be an issue this year or in future years under Gus. It doesn't matter who is running the ball as long they don't have down syndrome or they are not a double amputee.

The issue "IS" and will "ALWAYS BE" the simplicity of the passing game under Gus. For Auburn to be successful against teams with similar talent they have to implement a more complex passing attack that uses the whole field and has more than 1 read.

Pt 1 - If having a 1,000 yard rusher is your goal, then you're right. If you're of the opinion that a guy like Swift at UGA or Harris at bama would take our run game to a new level then you're not right. Just really wish we would sign a guy that's big enough to run the ball between the tackles but also a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Those guys are super rare, but you would think that our history and the way we feature RBs would allow us to sign one.

Pt 2 is 100% accurate.

Going just off spring performances, CJ Tolbert should've been receiving a lot more carries the last two years. I've heard Bobbie really struggles in the pass pro portion of the RB position. And it's not like we have a top of options better or more ready than Kam to start game one.

I think between Kam and Asa we will be fine at RB, but I'm not sure RB will be a strength for the team this year, which is a strange thing for an Auburn offense under Gus. I think we're going to rely more heavily on Stidham and the playmakers at WR than we've ever seen under Gus.

Predictability and the lack of ability or willingness to adapt will always be my issues. Idgaf about anything else until those things are corrected.

If the talk of Stidham makes changes at the LOS are true and actually going to be implemented, we could solve some of the predictability right there. Now, I'm skeptical as hell that we're actually going to do a lot of this, but in theory, Stidham could get us out of a lot of plays where we reveal ourselves too early or the defense is set up too perfectly for the called play.

Ability/willingness to adapt is probably something that will never go away, at least not completely. His ability to trust his assistants when he gets tunnel vision is something I'm hoping can help in that regard.

Pt 1. My point is that Auburn will run the ball efficiently under Gus no matter what. His scheme will allow for productivity in the run game. Auburn wouldn't need a 1,400 yard rusher or a Heisman candidate to win 10+ games this year as long as the passing scheme is adjusted(which is suppose to happen, but I'll believe it when I see it). The OP is fvcking stupid IMO, because history as shown it doesn't matter.

Our program will never take the next step until our amateurish approach to QB/OL recruiting, development/preparation of young studs, play-calling and personnel management ends.

For 100+ years Auburn has always been a good program. Never elite...... I don't think that is going to change. Prepare for history to keep repeating itself and prepare yourself to keep crying over it. When you become an adult it will get better though. You'll realize there are way more important issues in life outside of OL recruiting.

In all seriousness tho, I expect nothing less. Gus has ruined Auburn football for me until I see his amateur shvt stop and the same mistakes go away. FML.
I live 5 minutes from the stadium, have tickets offered to me for free all the time for one reason or another, and I will never go to another game as long as Gus is still pulling shit like this. KMart (lol, I love that) is going to RIP by the time we get to LSU if he's carrying the bulk of the load. WTF did we sign guys like Asa Martin, Harold Joiner, Devan Barrett, and Alaric Williams if we're going to do nothing but trot out some sawed off, 150 lbs midget to be the bellcow of one of the perennial SEC top 5 rushing offenses?

I would love to join you but I'm poor this week and payday isn't until friday. I thought my wife had discovered all the ways to spend my paychecks. And then we had a baby. Hoe-Leigh-Fuke. I've been feeding the dog cheerios with salad dressing for the past week because he ran out of food.

I agree with all of this. The only issue that I have with Gus pertaining to the running game is his selection and comments in regards to KMart being the RB1. He couldn't make it through all of last season as a part-time backup without getting broke, and I think he hurt himself last year as well. No doubt the kid has talent, and Gus' run game has proven itself year after year. My issue is just with making the smallest guy in the entire student body the bellcow and trying to have him carry the load when you have other guys on the bench twice his size and just as capable sitting on the bench simply because "they haven't gained Gus' trust because they're underclassmen." And I'm fine with being a ruh-tard if that opinion makes me so.

Alaric Williams is at a JUCO. Devan Barrett isn't much bigger than KMart. Asa and Joiner are freshmen, and Joiner is probably going to play more HB/TE than RB. Asa is probably the future, but he doesn't have the game experience to make him THE GUY in game one against a really good team like Washington.

I agree we've shit the bed recruiting RBs, but KMart is the best combo of experience and ability we have on the roster right now. I don't think he's going to be an every down RB all year, but he will probably start the season with the lion's share of the workload until we can get a couple other guys some experience.

Wife and I had this very convo last night... it's my middle daughter's senior year and we were talking about going to a few games... and then Gus and what he's done to our outlook came up... tits said, "As long as he's the coach I have no desire to spend any money for football. I'm not real excited about watching it on tv, but if you want @Slippin Jimmy over for a few games I'll still cook for y'all."

I do love that woman...

It will be by committee this year. My buddy was a the coaching clinic and that is what Horton told him. Just because someone is the starter doesn't mean they will be getting 20+ carries. Now, in Malzahn's system that has been true, but I believe that will change dramatically this year. Kam may be the main guy due to his ability to catch the ball. We'll find out soon enough if Horton lied, but I believe we will use runningbacks by committee.

he’s from the PAT... if giving him all the carries is what it takes to get Bun B on campus with a hologram Pimp C for a concert, then give him every carry... you can bench Stidham and let him play QB so he touches the ball every gd snap if that’s what it takes

UGK reunion concert at Midnight Madness next fall when we raise our men’s b-ball championship banner... that should be the real goal here

If you change your mind I'll be there around 6. I'm on per diem, so I'll buy you a cup of water.

I’ll believe Gus can make a drastic change for the better when I see it.

The committee thing is what worries me. In the past, we've defined roles for everyone in the committee and pretty much never deviated from those roles, which makes us predictable when substituting. I'm hopeful if we put 3 different RBs beside Stidham they're all capable of doing everything in the playbook.
