OT: Boogs Not Mens Softball

Incredibly impressive to get to the Supers for the 2nd year in a row.
without losing
Gotta give butch some credit. Guys we’re ready to play. Most of the pitching staff was pretty impressive
Richard Fits and Bailey Horn gave up a combined 0 runs in 12 innings. They were the stars along with Steven Williams

Two of the three trips to supers in school history owned by Butch, I certainly wouldn't want to be the one dumbass on the internet still questioning him.

Well, I love a good troll. With that said, the two that come to mind are not trolling. They’re IMO dumbasses and extremely ignorant when it comes to baseball which is crazy since one says he played college ball. I’m sure they are happy we won though.

I’m assuming this is partially directed at me but I haven’t questioned Butch in a long time. I do enjoy making jokes about the Butch/Sunny dynamic from time to time though.

I’ve been one of the first here and on the Boog board to give Butch his props. Extremely impressive to see what we’ve accomplished this year despite the adversity this team has encountered.

What Butch has done is extremely impressive if you consider how much the baseball program sucked in the previous 10 or 15 years before he became the head coach.

Next year's team should be absolutely loaded. Anything less than a trip to the College World Series will be a disappointment.

Just heard that the major league draft starts today. We have a couple of recruits like Hayden Mullens and Gunnar Henderson that are projected as high picks. Hopefully they both end up at Auburn.

MLB.com projects Gunnar Henderson to be a first round draft pick. He is a power hitting shortstop from Selma. We could really use him to replace Holland next year

Would be nice, but I also think Bliss would be a stud there as well.

Impressive accomplishment for this team. It's been ugly at times this year and wouldn't have been surprising to see the season go into the tank a few different times, but these guys kept battling and kept finding ways to win games when they had to. Several guys have stepped up or turned around slumping seasons to help win a regional championship. And now, we're two wins away from a CWS appearance. Given the issues this team has faced, it's pretty remarkable.

To be fair, you do troll for the most part, but there have been multiple instances where you try to take an actual shot at Butch

Does that get him where he wanted to be $$ wise?

dude on mainboard last night said Gunnar was heading to Auburn... it’s 2nd/3rd hand info but who makes up something about a high school baseball player for internet cred?

his story is - he’s buddies with a guy, his buddies parents live next door to Gunnar and were at his house for the draft party, once he fell to a certain point he had discussions with teams but told them he was going to Auburn... apparently he had a dollar figure in mind - I think $2 mil - and once he dropped far enough that his slot payment wouldn’t reach that amount he was Auburn bound

now, there’s always a chance Baltimore doesn’t care and goes overslot to pay him whatever he wants - and I’d think they would have known that before drafting him - but there’s a chance they took the risk hoping he’d change his mind and settle for $1.5 or $1.7 or whatever they can pay him

long story short - at one point last night he was definitely coming to Auburn, but then he got drafted 20-30 minutes later, so, who knows?

same dude now saying Gunnar is asking for $2.5 and Baltimore has offered $1.9

Seems legit. Supposedly he passed on two offers late in the first round. Where the Os took him is a $1.77MM slot. If they offer $1.9 and he doesn’t take it, I think they get a comp pick for next year near the same spot. And they get to save the $1.9 they offered him and spread that out to other picks. Seems like a calculated move by the Os.

Balmer would have to pay me $5M to play for that team

the baseball draft is weird... not bad weird, I think it’s kinda cool and more strategic than the others, but it’s hard to follow in real time because there are so many moving pieces, and picks before & after your selection factor into your negotiations

if he comes to Auburn and develops into an early first rounder, he’d make closer to $6 than the $1.9 he’s been offered... so I’m guessing he’s pretty set in the number he wants and it’s just a matter of how badly Baltimore wants to make it happen

I know just enough to get myself into trouble with this stuff... I read last night - and may have misunderstood - but they wouldn’t be able to spread his $1.9 - or maybe it’s only the slot value so $1.77 - to other guys this year, but, they would have it added to their pool for next years draft... so, similar in theory, take the chance and just roll it over to next year

I could easily be wrong about that though

Yeah, it’s a little fuzzy to me too. I’ve heard they have a pool of money for the first ten rounds that can be spent however they want. Not sure how a lot values fit in there. But rolling the funds over does make some sense.

Honestly, the MLB draft can be awfully confusing with compensation picks, competitive balance picks, and the slot value stuff.

absolutely, the mlb draft more often than not is about taking best available player, you don't really draft for "need".
Didn't see where he got taken but as a player just not sure Baltimore is where i would want to go if i had choices.

he was the first pick in the second round... but there was a round of 9 compensation and competitive balance picks between rounds 1 and 2, so he went 42nd overall... he was mocked in the late teens/early 20’s, so his slot value is a lot less than he was expecting/hoping

seems like slot value is $1.5M-$1.7M so looks like they're trying to make it work...Gunnar, come boog bruh.

Is it bad that the only pitch I’ve seen all year is from the highlight of Williams’s hitting it out?
