Auburn opens the SEC tournament with Kentucky. The game is slated to start at 1:00 PM CT. Auburn has announced that Jack Owen will get the start. As far as I can tell, Kentucky has not announced a starter yet. Kentucky is dealing with several injuries to the pitching staff and a few players, and that may be why they haven't determined a starter yet.

Auburn needs a win to keep its regional host chances alive. Kentucky needs a win to secure a spot in the national tournament. Should be an interesting game.

Even with a loss, I just don't see (or really understand) how we are not in the discussion with an RPI of 12

I think we'd still be in the discussion, but I think our conference record compared to the other teams (even though we've played a tough SEC schedule) and our record against RPI top 25 and top 50 opponents could be what gets us booted. Our non-con SOS at 93, while 5th in the SEC, isn't as strong as some of the other teams on the bubble. And there will probably be some geographical politics happening as well with teams like UConn and Minnesota in the mix.

The interesting thing will be to see if they award a host site to a 2 seed this year since Stetson and Duke might be 1 seeds but not be able to host. I think we'd be in that discussion as well if it came down to it.

Gotta love this:

Freshman All-SEC Team C: Mason Meadows, Georgia
1B: Tanner Allen, Mississippi State
2B: Anthony Servideo, Ole Miss
3B: Casey Martin, Arkansas
OF: Heston Kjerstad, Arkansas
OF: Daniel Cabrera, LSU
OF: Steven Williams, Auburn
DH/UT: Edouard Julien, Auburn

SP: Ma’Khail Hilliard, LSU
SP: Tanner Burns, Auburn
RP: Cody Greenhill, Auburn

Is freshman right-hander Daniel Harper (3-2, 5.24). He was used as a starter earlier in the season but has been mainly a reliever the last month. In SEC games, Harper is 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA and one save in 7.1 IP.

Auburn is going with freshman left-hander Jack Owen (2-2, 6-19).

Could be an old school SEC rubber match slugfest tomorrow. I was looking at Jack’s last three starts, and he has a 3.29 ERA and allowed 14 hits in 13.2 IP against Samford and South Alabama at home and Troy on the road. And Troy and South are both top 60 RPI teams. Hopefully, he can get us into the 5th tomorrow without any significant damage.

Good to see the Boogs come out on top. Odds for advancing in the tourney improved drastically.
