OT: So who’s getting Pappoe tomorrow?

I'm going with this until proven otherwise

He may pick us today, but we'll have to fight like hell to keep him in the end. Someone Kirby wants badly from his backyard...we're the out of state school...UGA is trending up instead of stale like they were under Richt. Even if we had a stud HC that's a tough pull.
Hope we’re ready to play the game on this one.

But it is Gus though, so we’ll probably be blindsided by another late-cycle flip to an arch rival once Georgia makes their “final offer” around late December.

Agree. We have to be ready to play the game. Both on and off the field this year. If not, we’ll we all know what will happen. Even though he is AU tonight we have a long, long way till NSD. Only thing we got going for us is they have other guys ahead of him on their wish list.

I'm calling complete BS on that last comment

I'd like to think depth chart was sold to him and he bought it. The UGA depth chart isn't going to get any more attractive in the next 9 months. Hopefully he becomes one of those kids that helps you land other kids and the class is centered around. Those types are much less likely to flip.

I agree! He could definitely be the kind of recruit that we build around! Glad he chose AU. Nice headline

This is a big get for us. Nice to see us beat out the big boys for a defensive stud at LB. We usually lose these battles to those two other schools. It’s a position of need for sure. For those other two schools it would just be another stud in the stable. bama and now uga because of Kirby can sell the NFL at that position. In my opinion what makes this most impressive is TWill battled H2H and won. Maybe this is the guy who starts AU’s movement to LB’er U. If we can hold on to him come Feb.

Got damn. T Will such a crootin stud.

Might go ahead and purchase the twillforheadcoach.com domain

its on the short list of single best moves AU could make to get me interested in the program again... too bad it may take 15 years to become a reality

Question the guy who actually comes here with knowledge and not internet facts. Sounds about right. They have 2 guys ahead of him, so yeah he is not #1 on there list. Sorry to bring some real knowledge up in here.

Who are the two guys ahead of him on their board. Why aren’t we up in arms about them coming to AU?

Regardless of what this situation is or becomes, I wish we had opposing coaches using our depth chart against us instead of our coaches using our two biggest rivals charts against them......still. You’d think in year six we’d be past all that BS.

There are 2 schools in the conference that opposing coaches can honestly point at the depth chart as a problem for a recruit. Everyone else is playing catchup now. Richt recruited better than he was given credit for but Kirby stepped it up 6 notches.

I think part of the reason my interest in college football is waning is because of the fact that recruiting matters a ton. I just can't bring myself to keep up with it and the little I do pay attention to it seems like 4-6 schools max are really built to be monsters the way uat is. USC/Ohio State/Texas/UF/UGA and maybe a few more. There is a tier below that where someone might could pull off a miracle and post 6 top ranked classes in a row but I don't see it happening. Feels a bit like the Yankees in the 90's, where anytime they needed a better player at a position they use bought whoever the best in the league was that off season and went back to the WS. That's college football right now to me and it makes it less interesting to me. Plus we're stuck with Beep Boop for awhile and that gives me even less hope.

Gotta be honest I didn’t even know who this kid was until I saw this thread yesterday. And then my mind read Pappy and I thought it was a bourbon thread at first. So I think I shall call this youngin’ Pappy henceforth...

Nailed it. Knowing now what I did not know back then has soured my tastebuds some for sure. We had a chance to maybe make that leap from 2nd tier to bottom 1st tier, but then Beep Bop happened. Thus my faith and interest has dropped a few notches. Fact is we can’t consistently play the big boy game with what we have. UT and UF upped the ante and went all in. Will see what happens with USC, but they have everything else to be on that level. Right now it is a 3 team battle royal. Those 3 schools and their coaches just flat out get it done. Period. Sucks!

We failed post NC to capitalize on that momentum. Sure some of that was fueled by the NCAA cloud hanging around but most of it was just that we had Gene as our HC and the only person in a position to manage him into a successful path was Jay Jacobs, who was more interested in making sure his own footing was rock solid. And we failed to turn 2013 into anything either. That was 2 NC appearances in a 4 year span. You should be able to turn that into something strong and instead we just melted back to same ole Auburn.

The parables about foundations are true and AU's foundations have always been built on mud or sand. We can throw money at it and make decent hires and find some good recruiting classes, but we cannot sustain anything for very long because we're just not built for it IMO. It needs to be torn down and built right but we won't or can't do it.

Yeah, would definitely throw Clemson in there with the elite programs

i was pretty up on the croot'n for a while but have gotten to the point where i just don't want to hang my emotional state on what a bunch of teens and corches are doing and whose jersey they decide to take money from. I'll watch on Saturdays but I just refuse to grump about AU's recruiting while Gus is here. I think he'll always bring in top 8-12 class with kids that may or may not fit the system, but does it matter if we don't have people to develop and then actually use the most talented kids out there?
This year Clemson played 60 or 70 kids in our game, i think we played about half that. Gotta learn these kids up and play em. (sorry for the ramble)

I still (kinda) care about recruiting for every position except OL/OT. I’ve relegated myself to accepting the fact that we have arguably the worst Power 5 recruiting OL coach in the country, so we’ll continue to get our asses handed to us by pretty much any program worth a shit at that spot.

LSU is probably in the elite tier as well when they have a coach who isn't a cartoon/meme. Definitely F$U as well. The Noles are probably the team with the most built-in recruiting advantages in the country.

NEVA unda-estimate how much the ABZALOOT ADDIKSHUN to Jeremy Johnzun and wut it cost uz!!!!
I thank we mooovin pazt dat, but dat wuz a 3 yeeer setback!!!

I could see that. I was just thinking when you said soon, you were meaning in the next year or two.
********

It would be in the next year or so. Lol! You don't think he is going straight from position coach to head coach do you?
Just to spice up the football convo here on the GREG...moving Dabo Swinney directly from a position coach to HC worked out pretty well for Clemson. Obviously that is way outside the norm but T-Will has some of the prime characteristics that make Dabo so successful. He is a charismatic, strong recruiter who can motivate kids. Dabo also seems to be good at evaluating talent in assistants and keeping them as well as learning from experienced coaches. He supposedly has leaned heavily on Gene Stallings as a mentor during his time as Clemson HC.

Could T-Will be similar? I don't know. He has a lot of charisma and energy and can recruit and motivate. Those characteristics alone arguably make for better HC than some we have hired. Just throwing it out there as food for thought. At the very least, T-Will seems to have the potential to be a strong college HC someday even if he doesn't jump directly from position coach anytime soon. Dabo's journey has made a leap from position coach to HC not as outrageous as it once was.

He absolutely won’t get an SEC gig without being a coordinator first. He could easily get a smaller HC soon though. If the HC from Troy leaves, it wouldn’t surprise me if T Will was under consideration for it. He definitely has the type of confidence and energy that a school would take a chance on
