I wonder how many people have heard songs for like a few thousand or more times and really think they know the words & meanings. I got a shocker today on a song I've really studied, trying to figure out what the lyrics mean and who the song was actually about, but I really missed a piece of it..

I actually thought the lyrics in the first verse said "watch yourself go by", but an elderly (yeah I know) friend of mine & a pretty cool cat pointed out today it's actually "watch yourself gavotte". Anyone else ever have this happen to them?

finding out it was "I bless the rains down in Africa" really fvked me up for awhile and took me to a very dark place, OP, something I don't like to bring up often as an avid TOTO fan.

But to end this post on a good note, Carly Simon's best song, IMHO, is "Nobody Does It Better".

Yep, kinda ironic to flout her cursory knowledge of French words in a song about vanity. Reminds me of Paul Simon’s use of bon vivant in American Tune. Some merde paresseuse, IYAM.

When I was about 5 I thought “big ol’ jet airliner” was “big ol jet outa lanta”. I never paid attention to jets unless I was in the ATL.. My sister abused me for this.

Second hand story but a friend heard a lady singing Buffet...instead of “stepped on a pop top” she sang “stepped on a pop tart”.

1979 was a damn (pardon me @GregMadia) fun year!!!
Not sure what the thread is about but I just had this one on my air pods at the Y!! Probably my favorite group and they were raging in the late 70s. Cars are bering inducted into the R and R Hall of Fame this year, I think, If it has already happened, pardon me Duke Bros and Sisters.
