He's stealing from his employer by "defending" the coaches and players 8 hours a day. Ts and ps to whom ever has to listen to his BS. Unhealthy hatred to someone I've never met. He's being a complete asshat in @killakongs thread.

Couldn't agree mohr.

Wait, we know who he is?
He put the pieces together himself over the years so I don't think there's any harm in saying his name is Daniel Rice. His brother is Jonathan Rice, a walk-on WR at 'bama (if you don't remember him bringing it up a few dozen times as evidence he knows more about football than you). Also, he's a database analyst, which he also told us on TBB.

It's not really surprising he has time to be an OBBERN DEFENDER all day since he's a government employee.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha he even looks like a douche. Government employee definitely adds up. You can't even make up a person that could be that big of a douche. Thank you @ThrustMaxwell

Damn you...I almost wrecked.

My favorite is the one the @L I G E R uses as his avatar on tbb, unless he's changed it. Lamar Rice absolutely sleighs me every time I see it. It just takes me back to the time I busted his ass about being a "student-athlete" at AU. OMG, and the libel lawsuit threats that followed. Was good times.

Can you even charge an individual with libel? I don't even think that's possible.

What do you mean? You have to be working for a publication before libel can be charged? I didn't know that if so

defamation

n. the act of making untrue statements about another which damages his/her reputation. If the defamatory statement is printed or broadcast over the media it is libel and, if only oral, it is slander.

I don't think this necessarily proves what I thought, but it does seem to suggest that libel cases are mostly brought against media organizations and not individuals.

maybe @MattAU05 can clarify some of this.

Yeah I figured they would want to after the entity that has the deep pockets usually, but I still thought individuals could be charged with it. I would think it would be pretty tough for a message board poster to be charged with anything though

The lawyer friends that I have all laffed pretty hard at that story, so I doubt there is anything to it. Also, everything I posted was 100% fact. I didn't slander him in any way. I just discovered that he wasn't a "student-athlete" at AU. He was on the club row team for a semester before he transferred to AUM and joined the AUM club row team, or something like that. It was a hard pill for him to swallow in accepting that the truth was out there for the Awbren world to know. This was on the 24/7 board and he had been boasting for quite some time of his "student-athlete" prowess. I just happened to be working at the AD in the academic center at the time and checked all of the rolls from the previous years that he said he was in school for his name once someone else posted what his name was. I didn't talk bad at all. Just made an informative post as to what "sport" he was involved with and explained the difference between a sport under the Athletic Departments umbrella and a club sport that falls under the Student Government Association's umbrella. Since all of that went down, much like every other embarrassment he's endured (and I do give him his props here), he takes it in stride now and embraces his dumbassery about it. But, he was one pissed off little hornet without a stinger when all of that first went down. I mean, boy was pissed.

I think there has to be some sort of malicious intent, and you have to be knowingly spreading false information with the intent to do harm to the individual that results in some sort of financial loss to said individual. But that's a really hard thing to prove.

Yeah, but lets say @BigtimeAub said something slanderous about Rice on the Bunker. I still don't think you could charge him individually. You'd charge JGT for allowing it to be published. That's my understanding of it.

I see. And all the more reason for Greg to hate us
It's my understanding from a different board that I used to post on that the owner of the site owns and is responsible for all the stuff we post. So if Jgt wanted to take all the AWOBs you posted and publish them as articles, then he'd be well within his rights to do it and you couldn't stop him or demand compensation. But he also owns anything bad we say. So if someone legitimately slandered Rice, Jgt would be the one on the hook for neither deleting the comments or editing them etc. BUT, whoever said the comments and the other people posting in the threads could and would be called to testify if a case ever made it to that point.

That's my understanding of how this stuff works. I could be totally wrong though
