Auburn @ Vanderbilt ( Mens Basketball)

Samir should be cheerleading at most.
He can knock down some spot up 3s for us. If he was backing up at the 1 and 2, we could run some screens to get him open for 3s to give us some offense when our second group is on the floor.

Back to Final Four hopes. Just needed to get over the mental roadblock of a road win
To make a tourney run, we need to finish the season strong and get off the 8/9 line. Win 4/6 to finish the regular season and get a couple in the SEC tourney and we would probably be a 5 seed which would put us in decent position to make a run.

I have an idea. Start Malik over Samir. Let him split time at the 3 with Danjel. Samir should be backing up J and Bryce.

If Malik had more awareness I would be good with this. I think I’d rather move Chuma to 3 and start Ho daddy or Purifoy at the 4.

Malik makes mistakes, but he also makes huge plays. I think we are good enough to overcome his errors, but his big plays are a shot in the arm that get us going when we are listless. I'd have him and Danjel split the 3 evenly though as I still think Danjel is on the verge of breaking out as a difference maker for us.

Ugly but that’s fine. We never win in that arena. We don’t make shots there. Our biggest issue isn’t any one thing, it’s stupid little things. Lane violations. Dumb fouls. Run 5 possessions of smooth offense and then the next 2 Bryce will dribble for 20 seconds or we’ll get a long jumper from Horace with 15 on the shot clock. Ugggggg man. If we just cut the stupid stuff down to average levels we’d have 3 more W’s.

Just wish we had a PG that could get us around 16 pts and 8 assists while only turning it over once. That would be so sweet

Agreed. This team is a few key mistakes (also a few bad calls) away from at least 3 more Ws. Sucks to be .500 in conference play, but at least we are still in position to make the tournament. A loss today would have wrecked our chances to make it.

And clearly our biggest weakness is our lack of a PG. 16/8/1 is such a shit line on the road. If only we still had Bowers to run the point for us.

Kid had 8 assists and the entire rest of the team had 1. The rest of the team had as many assists as our PG had turnovers. Aaaaaannd he had to lead us in scoring as well. But he’s average blah blah blah

If he would play defense or rebound to his athletic ability, I could live with his mistakes. I just don’t understand why he isn’t better at those things with how athletic he is.

That there is a teed up boog ball about to get smashed for a tap in fvcking par on a 600 yarder moments after checking the score for the first time all day to see that SBJ won at Vandy for the first time since Vietnam. War damn boogs.

Good stat line vs a shit team on the road but still a must win and a good game. Good bounce back game to build on. I called a 15 point win for AU at the beginning of the thread. We won by 11. Low IQ, I know.

Glad to see Samir on the bench and Malik stuffing the stat sheet. Austin looks impossibly terrible but got him so more mins so hopefully he can flip the switch soon.

Not much else to say about it our O was trash again and we got merked on the glass but hey a win is better than the alternative.

Samir and Malik have almost identical total points and total rebounds on the season yet Dunbar has played 160 less minutes than Doughty. Something’s gotta give there.

I’d also like to continue seeing more Danjel since he’s the only guy besides Chuma that can score inside right now.

Wiley looks like he needs surgery or something but he’s just committed to trying to play. I could easily be wrong but I’m not expecting to see him at 100% again this season

It’s a win on the road in a gym we’ve historically been terrible in. And the defense for the last week had been outstanding for the vast majority of those games.

Gotta start getting consistent production from the 3 and 5. Maybe Dunbar starting needs to happen, but I’d almost prefer he still come off the bench and get 28-30 minutes. I think the idea of him starting could change how he approaches the game and him picking up a really early foul could hurt him as well. I like him coming in around that 16 minute mark and playing a majority of the game from there.

We need to keep the 3-man rotation at the 5 and let Chuma and Danjel handle the 4. And then just ride the hot hand at the 5 for that particular game.

Definitely gonna need Austin in these next couple. Hopefully he can provide more than just a big with 5 fouls to spend. Don’t recall him looking this bad to start the season but he kinda out of nowhere started looking good in Maui so maybe it will happen again.

I think we’re bettet defensively with Samir. Dunbar males highlight plays but man does he get completely lost in the halfcourt defense a lot. But at this point the offense looks so trash with Samir that we probably need to roll the dice and play Malik more.

I hate our rotations and I’m a bit upset we haven’t figured anything out there. We simply aren’t good enough to not keep 2 of the big 3 on the court (Harper/Brown/Chuma) if the game is still competitive. Our offense doesn’t work at all with lineups like Jvon/Brown/Malik/Danjel/Horace. We need to be setup in a way we don’t have to run those lineups at all, unless up 30.

it’s not just Austin’s lack of mobility causing him to look clumsy, but now it looks like his hands have actually gotten worse

he’s getting zero lift, so he’s just swatting at rebounds like an 8th grade girl who’s only playing because she’s 6 inches taller than everyone else... and passes keep getting into his body, because he’s either tentative, or he’s not quite in the spot he should be, or he’s so worried about his feet/legs that he’s losing focus

regardless of the reason, I’m not counting on him to contribute the rest of the season, and if he does, then it will be a happy surprise
