Nothing football related disqualifies him. Everything else does. I am at the point I could look past his foibles doe.
Steadily pumping out NFL QBs at a record pace of 1 every 8 years (the entire time he has been there). Or I guess you're going to try and give him credit for Meyer's work...
Considering he was Alex Smith's and Tebow's QB coach then yes I give him credit for developing those guys. Why do folks work their selves in logicknots to try and disparage him? Surely yore not still stricken with vaginitis siliconosus about CAMMY CAM?
No, I'm pissed that our roster still has holes as long as Malzahn has been here. I can accept the fact that Ms St isn't Auburn, but in year 8 Mullen lost to South Alabama. He's at an SEC school, but hasn't been able to consistently raise the talent to even bottom tier SEC standards. He's a good X's and O's guy, but he isn't good to work with and he isn't a good recruiter unless you wanna go the "diamond in the rough" route.
Most of the folks who don't give Mullen credit for Smith, Leak and Tebow's successes are the same people who said Meyer would suck without him. They just won't give anybody credit.
Starkvegas probably has a little bit to do with the recruiting. Auburn has several advantages based on geography alone even. Imagine actually being able to develop some of the immense talent that is on the roster.
So you're honestly suggesting that an SEC school with the same coach for 8 years shouldn't be able to build enough talent to beat South Alabama?
You're putting too much stock in one game. It sounds like rice cakes saying Saban sucks because he lost to La Monroe or somebody one time.
That sounds the same. Saban losing a game he shouldn't in year one and Mullen losing one he shouldn't in year 8. I know guys who worked for Mullen. All say he is an asshole and terrible to work for. One guy swears he's bipolar and will snap on anybody around him, including recruits.

I think he's decent but he's not going to push auburn over the top. There's a reason so many ADs have turned him down cause he's been trying hard to get out of msu. Plenty of better options out there
Plenty? I'd say there are probably 5-10 coaches out there tops that have what it takes to win at Auburn and only a handful have SEC recruiting and coaching experience.
I'll drop it for now but when State is 10-2 or better this season we can discuss again.

I don't think he gets to 10, but SEC is bad this year. It was one of the main reasons I was thinking 10-2 was our floor.
They play at Uga next week. Play at AU. Play at a&m. Have to play Bama.
If they take down Uga next week, then I'll start believing more, but I think Lsu is ass so I'm not terribly impressed
The more I hate Gus the more I like Dan. He's a D crooter probably but Gus is an F and we've still been able to get talent.
Nah Gus isn't as bad as you think. He throws mountains of stats at kids and some of them eat it up. He did a great job with Dyer and Lattimore until that kid who went to Clemson (Howard?) caught Luper in a lie. He cruited Marshall and Stidham and a few others. Honestly he's probably a better cruiter than QB developer - low bar I know.
Point taken. I'd say he had an in or little competition on those guys. JJ and K Frazier were probably wins on the trail even though they sucked (prob due to Gus).
He's a guy that relies on assistants to pull dudes unlike overwhelming majority of top HCs.
Agreed. If we could croot at the same current level with a true play caller/ QB developer like Mullen I'd be good though.

10-2 was more boastful bullshitting than true belief. I was thinking 9-3 for them after the LSU game but I didn't realize just how incredibly awful LSU was this year. Normally they have plenty of talent on their lines. I'll take my lumps though like a grown e-persona.
I thought LSU was going to be down this year pre-season but when they didn't let BYU cross the 50 I thought that I might have had it wrong. Nobody saw LSU being this bad though.
I thought they'd be 8-4, 9-3 type team due to their QB situation but they're just downright awful.
I'd still take Dan over Gus if that's a question.
