Danny Boy...

.
I'd still take Dan over Gus if that's a question.

If this is some scenario where we go back in time and hire Dan instead of Gus then I might be for it, though I doubt 2013 happens. I wouldn't fire Gus to hire Dan though.

He's a smarter version of Gus to me. Not a plus recruiter, maybe even a bigger minus than Gus bc he struggles knowing the times not to be a jerk. He's a better game planner and play caller, but his offense is based on one thing and when he can't have that he's toast. His QBs outside of Dak have been a lot more like Fitz....if the power run isn't there they have zero shot at making enough plays vs a typical secondary. That's a lot like Malzahn IMO. If your offense requires the defense to vastly overplay the run so you can hit some passes you've got issues.

What are his junk jostling nose picking tendencies?

Yeah both really need a unique QB to be successful. I agree that as Auburn fans he appears to be a better play caller, but I'm not sure we would be as adamant that he is a better play caller if he was calling our plays. I have seen times when he really appeared dialed in and I have seen other times when I thought WTF are you doing Dan? I think the bigger point for me (and you may be saying the same thing) is that they are basically a wash, so why trade for the other? At least with Gus he appears to have refocused on signing dual threats and the future could be good with Malik/Gatewood/Fields. That being said, option one for me is hiring a legit wolf.

I mean if you put a gun to my head and told me we had no choice but to roll with one of the 2 for the next couple of seasons I'd probably take Mullen, but it wouldn't be an easy decision. He's not on my list if we're hiring someone to replace Malzahn in December. His offense seems to have the same issues Gus has and he's had basically no hint of success vs Saban/Smart at all. At least Gussy has had moments where he tormented those guys offensively and now has given the offense over to someone else since he's failed at that 2 straight seasons. Dan would still be trying to run power QB into the heart of NFL defenses with a passing attack that is no more complex or complete that Malzahn's. If you think KJ and KP runs into the heart of the Georgia defense are no fun to watch I'm not sure watching our starting QB try to plow ahead for 4 yards would be much better.

Gussy only losses because I'm particularly tired of his brand of dumb. I could go a lifetime without seeing a RB rotation this poorly managed again.
