Hoover vs Pinson

How does baseball play into all of this? Is he good enough to get drafted or play in college?

I have no clue about being drafted, but he is most def good enough to play college baseball. Before today, I would say he is better at baseball. After today, it’s close.

It’s clemson/Auburn battle. I’m scared when Clemson offers. Right now Auburn is sitting good, but as soon as Clemson offers I think Auburn will be 2nd. It certainly helps having George and Shed, but there are some factors I can’t put out there. Let’s just say Robby has someone close to him that is hard to deal with and it has pissed off some college coaches. I’ll leave it at that.

There’s always the crazy uncle looking to make a buck

lulz...good to see all the rust getting knocked off in these HS threads, the @greg is gonna hit the ground running just in time to see Gus sh!t the bed in ATL again, game thread should be legendary.

through a confluence of weird circumstances I’m actually going to be in Atlanta next weekend... I’m content to watch the game at the airbnb where I’m staying, but ticket prices are falling like a rock, so I’m starting to get tempted to go

I hadn’t thought about your point though... if Gus goes full Gus and I’m in the stadium I’m at least close enough to have a chance at bumrushing him and choking him...but I’d miss out on the fun here

if we play well, I don’t really gaf about being there to see it, because I’d rather subtly talk shit to the bammers I’ll be with... they’re already afraid of Gus and AUBURN this year... it’s weird, but I think last years methodical beatdown got to them... I just kept telling them after the game, now you know how good teams have felt playing you for 8 years... you can’t make one mistake, because you slowly get the life choked out of you... if we beat Washington and play well, I need to be planting seeds of doubt in their heads all day

My mind would be blown if Gus comes out and executes a true game plan that exhibits this teams strengths on offense instead of doing all this cute "keep your cards close" crap we usually see the first several games of the season...Gus please blow my mind and strike fear into the hearts of our enemies.

I used to buy into the whole “don’t show your cards until you have to” bullshit... but championship caliber teams do their thing from start to finish and beat you to death with it because they’re just that good

I’m ready to have one of those teams

Like Marshall and Mason running it down your throat. Nobody could stop it and knew it was coming. it was glorious to watch.

yes... that stretch from Texas A&M through Mizzou was unimaginable... pair that with Steele’s defense and you would sleepwalk into 10-11 wins a year in perpetuity, regardless of what Saban, Smart, Dabo or anyone else was doing, with a legit chance to win titles every year

but we only got to experience it for that 2 month stretch... 14 was good, and Marshall was even better, but the running game just wasn’t dynamic enough

same with CAM... we got it for 2/3rds of a season, then it disappeared before you even had time to appreciate it

will Gus ever have a chance to return a multi year, dual threat qb, with multiple running backs, and an experienced OL? because until he does, I don’t really give a shit, because it’s simply a flash in the pan, and those flashes will never top CAM or Nick/Tre, so what’s the fvcking point?

I don't think that offense (the run-first, run-heavy design of that offense) will ever consistently work for any college team. I think defenses are too sophisticated now and too knowledgeable on how to fit the ZR and PR runs. It's taken teams time every year to adjust to it, but eventually they can stymie it enough to make you have to beat them in other ways.

I liken it to the Ga Tech option. In Johnson's first year, year and a half, in the ACC, teams couldn't handle GT's option attack. But as more teams got more film on them and had seen it once or twice, they were better able to defend it. Now, GT might sneak up on someone if they have favorable matchups and can take advantage of a specific weakness, but if you have a solid-to-great front 7, that offense just isn't consistently effective.

I’m a dumbass, so I wouldn’t even begin to really argue about it...

I will say that I don’t think there’s any way to essentially “shut down” a truly dynamic college qb... simply with numbers, forcing the defense to defend 11-on-11 as opposed to 11-on-10 evens the odds enough for talent to win out over the long haul... I think there are only a handful of schools that can recruit a high enough level of talent for that to be the case, and fortunately Auburn is located in an area where they’re one of the handful of teams that can consistently recruit that level of talent

I’m sure defenses have adjusted to the run schemes in the last 5-8 years, but I’m also sure there are other adjustments to be made - and pass game concepts to use as complementary pieces - to continue to keep the edge... I just have 0 faith that Gus is capable of identifying and fully implementing those adjustments
