1. Jared - A. Pretty much a stud. Facilitating. Knocking down the 3 at a solid rate. Hitting his FTs. Has struggled to finish on the drive is the only issue I’ve really seen.

2. Austin - A. He is who we thought he’d be. A dominant force on the block. Gobbling up boards now. Blocking shots. Still could get a little more comfortable on D and moving the ball on O when he doesn’t have great post position.

3. Chuma - A-. Maybe grading him more harshly because he has so much talent. Just needs to ascert himself more. 36% from 3 he’s better than that.

4. Malik - B+. I just love what he’s doing so far even though the last few haven’t been as good. Still 38% from 3. Always seems to be the guy that has the sack to hit a big shot when the squad isn’t performing.

5. Samir - B+. This is a toughy cause he’s been sensational at the Clam and borderline terrible on the road. He’s got a lot of Desean in his game which is good and bad. Crafty and hard nosed but I fear he lacks the athletic ability to be reliable against great competition.

6. Horace - B. Has been an absolute force in limited mins at the 5. Makes some energy plays at 4 but just not cut out for that position on O.

7. Bryce - B- I still consider him a near lock for 1st team SEC but it’s been ugly lately. 35% from 3 doesn’t cut it. Having mental meltdowns. Still the stats look ok so far but he needs to be better.

8. Jvon - B-. Young buck is really coming on lately. Showing himself to be an elite athlete even by blueblood standards. Confident we can win games if he has to give us 10-15 mins on a occasion.

9. Anfernee - B-. Harsh but he’s been too inconsistent so far. Was our most efficient player last year according to the advanced metrics but that’s way down. It’s really not even that bad so far but just not up to his standards.

10 Danjel - incomplete. I give him a pass cause it’s no surprise he’s not ready. That said it’s been absolutely abysmal when he’s on the floor. Running around all over the place, getting pushed around. Hasn’t made a shot. Hopefully we see something against N Florida. Guess I could have waited till OOC was actually over but whatev was in the mood.

Lots of good points.

To play the devil's advocate though....on Bryce, I think its a little harsh to ding him that much. Samir has had far more bad games than Bryce has so I think its unreasonable to grade him below him. I would give Samir a B and Bryce an A-. Samir has been great at times, but completely absent in several games. Take away the NC State game and Bryce would be our leading scorer and worthy of an A grade. He bounced back and played ok while sick against Murray State and I expect him to be fine going forward.

Yeah I’m ok with that assessment. I guess some of its expecting more from Bryce than others. NC St was just one but it was a big one and a complete debacle.

Agree on Bryce's one bad performance being a killer. If he has even a decent game at NCSU, we win by 10+ points. We can't afford for him to have killer games like that. Samir has been MIA a number of times, but his bad games have not been killers with the exception of possibly the Duke game.

I understand that it takes some time to knock the rust off for Danjel. But I maybe naively expected more from him just because this is his 4th year in the system. He just looks absolutely clueless
I'd like to see him get 20 minutes this weekend. I don't think we will really know what he can do until he has a chance to get into the flow of a game and not feel like he might get pulled at any moment. Throw him out there 10 minutes into the first half and tell him you're playing till half time and I think we will see him settle in. In the few minutes he played against UAB, there was one possession where I was watching him carefully and he played lock down D man to man. Then he went down and fought for a rebound and made the put back with a foul. I think that shows its not an effort issue. Hopefully things will start to slow down for him this weekend.

Me too especially at 4 where he played a whole year. We obviously put more into incorporating Austin immediately where as Danjel is just sort of getting a few random mins but he should look like he has some idea where to be on the floor and not get bullied on the glass.

Just a outsiders observation on Bryce, when he is on Auburn can't lose it seems, but when he is off it creates big problems for the team.He needs to find a middle ground or even keel that helps the team even when he is having a off game.

Good point. If we shift our focus to a Wiley first paint offense, I think that would alleviate this issue tremendously. Bryce is at his best when he can spot up and shoot. Forcing teams to focus on Wiley on the low block will lead to Bryce getting a lot more good looks.

Its the consistency of his effort and focus that I have concerns about. He has some really good possessions on both ends, but the year he did play he had a lot of lapses on defense especially. Frequently lost track of his man and just looked like he couldn't stay sharp for extended times. He's getting a pass from me right now because of the time off, but I need to see him get more minutes and keep the focus and intensity up. To this point in his AU tenure I just have to wonder about his mentality.

He has some average games where he scores 15 and shoots it okay but isn't on fire and plays good defense. That needs to be more like his floor though. Not the games where he not only struggles to score but gets frustrated and jacks up bad shots, making it worse and then his offense starts impacting his defense in a negative way. He's a senior and the floor for his off nights really shouldn't be this low.

You certainly raise good concerns. I guess my positive spin would be that we are much better defensively as a team this year so if Danjel can return to the form of his first 10 games as a frosh, we would be capable of dealing with his defensive lapses if he was one of our best offensive weapons. Guys who can average 18/game over a 10 games stretch and score 27 in back to back games are fairly hard to come by. He also rebounded pretty well as a frosh (had a 15 rebound game) so I think he helps us there. This team is already really good so I guess my hope is he can work his way into regular minutes and by February, he's back to where he was at the start of his freshman year when he was shooting 3s at a high clip and making 3-4 trips to the FT line per game. I feel like that's a reasonable expectation and if he can never get back at least to that point, it would make for a pretty bizarre career arc.

Grading on a curve I see. When you have A games and F games shouldn’t you be more around a C?
