+++++ LSU vs Boogs (HYGs) Official game thread ++++++

couldn’t fire up the game til noon and never caught up to real time... about to catch up on the thread, but before I can’t waste another second without saying Jimmy Dykes can eat my entire asshole

insufferable doesn’t even begin to describe it... what a fvcking goob

Still can't believe that that Okoro baseline monster jam wasn't the final nail in the Lsu coffin. That should've been it. But Whatever. We got the dub and that's what's important.

This team is pretty frustrating on offense but we do have a large number of players that are fully capable of putting up a big number each night. Not sure what that means, but it does mean that the boogs are never out of it I guess.

I expected that to be our strength... I didn’t think we’d have as many Boog explosions... but I also thought we’d be fine on offense because we’d have 8 guys capable of scoring double digits every single night and we’d just take turns riding 3-4 each game

hasn’t worked out that way, but Isaac is up to 35% from 3 in SEC play, and Devan is up to 40% on the season after today... if we can get consistent mid-30’s shooting from those 2, JVon and Samir rather than 4 games of 25% and 1 random explosion, we’re a legit contender

Somebody help me & assure me this is a Q1. Has to be, right?

I’m not sure... I do know that we’re #1 in the SEC in the NET and have beaten numbers 2, 3 and 4 in our last 3 games

on KenPom, we’re up to 31 which is first in the SEC and have beaten 33, 34 and 35, also nos 2-4, in our last 3 games, with BAMA (48, #5) up next

it’s not flashy, but our resume will continue to strengthen if we avoid bad losses... we don’t have any out of this world victories, but we’ve busted our asses to avoid the crushing, WTF?, killer losses - and by the end of the year will have a huge pile of good, solid dub’s

More frustrating than the offense is the lack of smart basketball on this team. With so many seniors, you’d think they’d be high IQ, but man do we take stupid shots with time on the clock with the lead coming down the stretch. Dumb turnover too.

Can I watch for spreadsheet purposes

I’m not as bothered by bad shots... time and situation, decision making, could definitely be better - but I complain so much about bad, stagnant possessions that I‘ll live with the aggression

I’m more bothered by stupid defensive positioning... Austin continually shades his guy the wrong way and essentially gives up his size advantage by getting turned around or giving a guy an easy out... same with Danjel and JVon when they close out, or help

all in all though, this group is impossible to hate... they’re not nearly as talented as last years squad, but it doesn’t matter, because they’re so tough mentally that they keep grinding teams to dust because they expect to win at all times, no matter what... that mentality, in and of itself, is a skill - and I haven’t given them enough credit for it

I still think we're more "talented" than last year. But just less "skilled." If that makes sense. Think it's why our D can be so suffocating.

And the only conference squad on the four line in most projections I’ve seen.

hmm... I guess it’s all semantics, so no right or wrong answer

Jared, Bryce, Chuma are obvious losses but I think we continue to way underestimate how much we miss Horace and Malik... maybe I just have a soft spot for them

nah dog. Flanny's D will keep him in the starting 5 next year unless something crazy happens
I hope you're right. He just seems like a liability on the other end every time he's in the game. Maybe that'll be ok as long as we can continue to build the pieces around him.

Whew boys that game gave me heart palpitations. There were so many times that LSU made the "game over" plays in regulation that its a damn miracle that we kept fighting through it.

This team keeps finding different guys to get it done. For a month Samir was trash and then he's been very productive getting us nearly 22 ppg in the last 5. JVon was bad vs both OM and UK and then bounced back with a solid game vs Arky and saved us late today while nearly putting together a trip/doub and probably the best statistical game of his career. Devon kills USCe and then goes absent for weeks and comes back to torch LSU.

Didn't feel good when I saw Danjel was out. We needed both his size and shooting today but survived without it because DCam got going

We really need Flanny and Jamal to get some confidence. Can we combine their bodies and get one complete basketball player? Jamal might be the worst defensive guard I've seen at AU and Flanny may have the ugliest jumper. Is there some basketball god that will allow us to give Jamal's shot to young Al?

Just finished the game thread some thoughts:

sweet airball to start the game Samir

Really want Samir to get invited to the combine so I can see how low his vertical is

I have this irrational hatred of Samir hate. Like I know he fuggs up a lot, but I get pissed every time I hear someone hate on him. After the game, the wife and I had a lovely brunch at The Depot and some oulds were trashing him. The phrase, “act like you’ve been there before” was used and I was hot. Had to focus on my crab cake Bennie to survive. Anyway, that was a long story with no real point but these posts reminded me of my brunch encounter so I thought I would share.

Where is Devan he ready to stroke today I can feel it.

Yes Mac deferring to Al for another 3 ball brick. Bring me DEVAN

Please let Cambridge get hot....

We made a little spurt with Austin cleaning the glass and he got to half with only 2 fouls. Gimme Isaac at 4 and Devan at 3 we can put a boog on them.

Other than these oafs stepping out making it rain they aren’t getting much. We just being so spazzy need Devan to come in and settle things.

Reading this thread I felt like @Denim Vest just willed D-Cam to drop 20+

Let’s just get this to OT

Well played.

Pretty nice vid of our victory during halftime of this UVA/UL game. Backed it up & recorded to send to both friend & foe. This might contend for game of the year guys, no joke. I’m not savvy enough to have taken it all in, and this put it into perspective. STILL AMPED.

Jamal is so bad defensively, idk how he drew that charge today

he’s usually needed for floor spacing though, whether he’s hitting or not just because he’s a threat... today though, for the first time he was even hesitant to pull the trigger on offense... hopefully it was just a blip, because if he’s not going to fire with no conscience on offense he has no business being on the court - and we can’t afford to lose any outside shooting

I hit send on a text to a nephew describing how shitty he is on D as I saw him draw the charge. So I get all the credit!

Its soooo bad man. Yeah Mays scored on just about everyone today but other guys at least made it difficult. When Jamal got switched onto him it was a cake walk for him. Just not awareness of where he needs to be, where he needs to force the opponent...just a complete mess

I got into a big stupid thread argument on the bunk with someone who was calling for Jamal to start and Samir to sit back when Samir was going through his worst stretch. People don't understand the significant drop our D takes when he's on the court. He needs to make shots and make our offense dynamic to have any chance of being a + for us at this point.
