Official AU FB Spring Practice Thread

Ryan Russell’d.

Ricky SealsJones’d actually. Looked like the shoulder again and once you pop it out good it wants to pop out anytime it gets a chance.

I want Russel fired for just being a bad fit. He was supposed to be the expert at producing football players that played 80 snaps a game with pace. We’re not that team so why is he still here?

Still can't believe that wasn't ruled targeting

Russell belongs at an Arky State tier program. Has no business at a program the caliber of AUBURN. He was a classic “I have no other coaching ties” unqualified hire by Gus.
So it realistic to think only three more seasons, or is four more likely?
Depends on how serious Auburn is about winning championships and not completely conceding to our two biggest rivals for the next 5-7 years.

Unfortunately, it's going to come down to money and how much of the buyout someone is willing to pay for.

Championship level line is gonna get wasted and forced to be a part of an 8-4 season of mediocrity because the offensive braintrust can’t be trusted.

Last year and this year's defenses wasted on Gus is going to kill what fandom I have left. Didn't even know A-Day was today and I haven't missed watching one as long as I can remember.

Crazy I actually did not know A Day was on either, but it recorded so I got all excited when I got home from Astros game to watch. Turned it on and saw the 7 v 7 gump BS and almost threw up. Made it through 1qt 3-2 and hit delete. What a waste of a program and donor money. What an idiot. Guess I should look in the mirror and laugh at myself for thinking it might be worth my time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is his first shoulder injury. Ricky Seals Jones tore Dinson's ACL and other ligments in his knee. Had nothing to do with his shoulder.

Anyways, I think some people are overreacting to Ryan Russel and I have a hard time directly correlating injuries to his performance as a S&C coach. It's just football and shit happens. I don't remember people saying Scott Cochran was trash last year when Bama lost like all their linebackers in a few weeks.

Let's revisit last season's A-Day game and see if it was a good correlation to how the season went

J Stidham - threw for like 400 yards and 4 tds. - Never had a performance like that at all during the season
NCM - had like a 150 yard performance and looked like the star of the offense - had like 15 catches all season
JP3 - had like 3 sacks and we all thought he'd be for sure the starter - didn't play at all and Holland wound up being the man

Not gonna get too caught up in anything from this A-Day. Center is really the only thing I'm kind of worried about

RT, LT, and C are massive question marks. It’s worrisome that Cal Ashley has not solidified a job on the line, and I’m not convinced Tega is there yet at LT to be a difference maker. Stidham holds the ball too long, and if he does that this season he’s going to be @dead before Amen corner.

Defense is fvcking salty and should keep us in every game.

Tega will fine

Question: Of the traditional Big Six of the SEC, how many besides the Boogs would keep a corch that lost 22 games in 5 years. 4.4/year & we give a $49 contract. Does anyone think that bama, LSU, Georgia, UT or UF would even consider hiring this guy we have?

Lsu just hires ed ogeron, who sucks.

Tennessee hired a coordinator with no experience.

UF hired a head coach with a losing record in conference play.

Malzahn, like it or not, has won the hardest division in football two times in 5 years. 2 Sec title games. 1 win and a natty appearance. He has his terrible flaws but he is way better than some want to admit

Besides Bama and Uga and A&M, I think most SEC schools would gladly trade their HC for Malzahn

Well I can't refute pure facts, but I still can't see the $49M.
EDIT to say, it's not like I'm that Knotted Shorts guy. Not my money to worry about any how

It really isn’t about how it will translate in the fall.

Gus walks into 7-9 wins just showing up with Steele’s nutsack resting on his chin.

It is just being forced to watch that retards offense week in and week out. It just forces you to wonder hey what would this team look like if they:

A. cared about OL recruiting
B. let JS open up the middle
C. let a dynamic athletic QB actually run the offense.

I don’t think he deserved 49 million but I’m happy they didn’t can. Seeing what UF and UT went through this offseason makes you realize that hiring an elite coach is way harder than it sounds.

I think some of his biggest detractors always talk about player development, but AU is about to have a really respectable draft class this year and a monster one in 2019. Probably the best one since after the 2004 season.

I think he makes bone head decisions but he’s built a really quality roster and program.

We might have us a classic "rice thread" today, guys

Rice does not think the offense held the defense back in any games last year.

This could get interesting.
Possibly gonna need screenshots for those of us who don’t post/have access over there anymore.

Lol. To help his case, he provided our season stats as a whole in response to individual/specific games being called out/mentioned
He faceplanted hard several times in tigerfreex's idiotic thread.

Haha. I'm through page 3 and Hornacious has me rolling.

Is Barrett Sallee the king of both the lame take and the hot take? I’m not quite sure how he’s been so successful. Maybe I’m missing something on him?

this made me lol out loud... @Gran_Polla , @jdf75 , and a few others of us ridiculed that cheesedick mercilessly on the scout board back in the day when he was just an average Boog... I was in a fantasy baseball league with him and other guys from that board and he was the butt of jokes leaguewide

like MITS said, he just hardworked his way to a decent gig, so good for him... because he definitely wasn’t going to get anywhere by virtue of talent and cleverness

"If we had to play today it would probably be situational football," Horton said. "There's one guy that's probably a better pass protector. There's one guy who is probably a better runner. There's one guy who might be a better pass receiver out of the backfield. It would be very situational in the sense that whatever the down and the distance and the situation dictates.”

I hate when teams do this. Why tip the other team off by the personnel you have on the field

the problem is though if you just keep one guy in there that has a very specific weakness, then the defense will just keep exploiting it. It is what it is. Sounds like Tim just hasn't recruited a complete back

I guess I’m going to be on this island by myself, but I have no use for “speed backs”. We use WRs for sweeps a lot of the time anyways. McCaleb had a good year in 2010 and we’ve felt some need to always recruit one. I don’t get it

Totally agree, also will never understand why AU wont do RB by committee like basically every other major program with a stable of young studs.
just look to our neighbors in Athens, why the hell does AU not do this?

Guys Gus is a moron and we don't have any complete backs much less a stable of them. Remember, this is the guy that let RB depth derail our title hopes last year. The most dime a dozen position in the game at what some honks consider "RBU" and we run out of options. Oops.
Where's Sean White when you need him?

Well it sounds like we're trying, but in the wrong way. I want a RB by committee where they all weigh 210-220 and can either run or block
