Forgot about losing Wun Wun bruhDepartures:
Bryce Brown (makes me so sad to type that)
Horace Spencer (just as sad typing that)
Malik Dunbar (sad for that one too. Can’t replace that energy or infectious smile so easily)
Returning (as of now):
Jared Harper
Samir Doughty
J’Von McCormick
Chuma Okeke
Danjel Purifoy
Anfernee McLemore
Austin Wiley
Additions:
Jamal Johnson
Tyrell Jones
Allen Flanagan
Isaac Okoro
Jaylin Williams
Stretch Akingbola
Right now, we have no room for grad transfers or true transfers. Attrition seems to always happen though. But with that group of 13, I think that’s a really really good basketball team. Might be missing an elite shooter, but we seem to have all of the other ingredients for another strong run in the SEC.

This seems to be a really close knit team so I'd like to think that no one is transferring but you never know. It probably should be pointed out that Sweet Danjel announced that he'd be returning before Chuma got injured. It could've easily been that Chuma was already talking about going pro and Danjel used that info to say he'd stay. But you never know. He seems to have regained his Boog Heart, and should be a starter for at least a month so I'd hope stays.
J'von and Samir are kind of wild cards. It's possible that Jvon leaves if Jared returns. Might sound dumb, but I could see it happening. With Bryce gone though, I could easily see Bruce running a lot more of the Jvon at PG and Jared at the 2 sets that he's run this year. So hopefully that entices him to stick around.
Samir. Already came of the bench at the end of the season and I absolutely think Okoro will be starting at the 3. So it comes down to if he's guaranteed to take Bryce's spot or not. I don't think that's a forgeone conclusion with Jamal Johnson lingering there. But who knows. But it won't surprise me if either one of those guys gets out. Hope not though because I like both of them a lot.
No chance Mac goes anywhere. Even if Austin returns, then Mac is still gonna be the starter.
Samir sat out a year at VCU for the same reason Danjel did. He didn't redshirt last season, he redshirted his first year at VCU. That puts him two years of school at VCU and two at AU. He could easily be graduatingSamir has to graduate to transfer. He’s a redshirt junior right now with one year left. JVon would at least have a redshirt year somewhere.

That's one spot to watch. With Chuma likely out to start the year, Danjel and Okoro should have a month or more to both start and compete to remain starters after Chuma returns. It is a great problem to have either Okoro or Danjel as the first guy off your bench though.I know I'm in the minority here, but I think Danjel will be a starter even when Chuma returns. I'm betting he has his best off-season yet. Maybe even develops a little more post-up game. I just have this feeling that this season grew him up a lot, and we're going to see the best version of him in the fall. Obviously could be wrong, so I guess we will see.
Edit: Not that I think he will be starting over Chuma, just that Okoro would be out before him (or whoever starts at the 3).

Flanigan and Stretch are going to redshirt without question, unless some sort of unforeseen injury occurs. Both are talented prospects, but both are very raw and are in need some refinement.
Okoro will start from day one at the 3, and Williams will get some nice run at the 4 until Chuma is ready to play in late December/early January. Turbo Jones will get some minutes at the PG and CG spots in Pearl’s system, but I expect Harper, JM, Samir, and Johnson to get the majority of the playing time there, at least initially anyway. Bryce is a huge loss, but this next year’s team could be Pearl’s most talented group from top to bottom, and I can assure you guys the recruiting trail is heating up right now so after next year it’s going to be a reload situation, not a rebuild situation.

Yes. Posted it a few minutes after the game.Have you posted your wrap up on tbb?
I assume that's an oversight since Danjel has already said he's returning. No mention of Danjel in there.

I have heard Mac could transfer. Hope that doesn't happen as I think we will need him whether Wiley is back or not. If he could get back to where he was last year, he would be one of our most valuable pieces.
It will be interesting to see how the depth chart shakes out. Johnson was a good shooter at Memphis and a full year in our weight program and working on his shot could make him very dangerous next year as a 2. I assume at least 1 freshman outside of Okoro will also push for playing time.
I had heard Mac was looking at transferring a month or two ago. Not sure what that was all about, but I hope he stays. For starters our system is a perfect fit for him. He's a small 5 who really can't play the 4 IMO. How many teams are going to play a guy his size at the 5? How many are going to play to his strengths like we do? But it's hoops and nothing shocks me.
My worry about this team isn't talent, it's those seniors and their grit along with Bryce being a guy who really got us going. Nobody's baskets fired up the rest of the squad like a couple of 3's from Brown. He was a huge ingredient in Boogin any time we Boog'd. Man I'm gonna miss that kid.
Damn does Texas Techs entire team graduate? Not in the top 25?
Didn’t even notice that. Totally dumb and disrespectfulDamn does Texas Techs entire team graduate? Not in the top 25?
I’ve already braced myself for one mildly surprising transfer and one heart breaking transferWe all know Mac got into MIT so it’s possible that he’s graduated in 3 years. I’d guess he’d want to go somewhere that gave him an opportunity to play somewhere other than the five. Cuz he’s not an nba five. But still seems dumb imo. But we’ll see I guess

It’s a fairly ridiculous exercise at this point but they got UVA #1 and we obviously project to be a lot better than them so think that about covers it.
