OT: 2019-20 boog hoops

thoughts on any OOC additions to the schedule?
Were back in the B12 challenge should get a good matchup there.

Id expect to get one of those big time early season neutral site matchups like whatever the UT/ Gonzaga game was.

In that legends classic with Wisconsin.

Got NC St and UW on the sched.

Think we got Murray St and UAB. Maybe add another P5 game. Should be able to avoid those really trash games like St Peters and Miss College.

Basically I’m sure it will be the best OOC lineup we’ve ever had even though Maui was the ultimate preseason event.

Murray State again? We went there in 2017 so I thought the 2018 one at home ended that two game series.

I like the UAB game in Birmingham. Boog fans show up in droves for those games

Maybe it's just because I am still rustled AF but I really want to destroy a certain ACC power in a neutral game. Preferably in DC or Charlotte.

Was thinking there was a 3rd game maybe neutral site as part of that deal. Could be wrong. Wouldn’t surprise if we just added them again though.

Forgot about the Big22/Sec challenge. That should be fun. I’d imagine our commitments to Murray St and Dayton are finished though

Flanigan and Stretch are going to redshirt without question, unless some sort of unforeseen injury occurs. Both are talented prospects, but both are very raw and are in need some refinement.

Okoro will start from day one at the 3, and Williams will get some nice run at the 4 until Chuma is ready to play in late December/early January. Turbo Jones will get some minutes at the PG and CG spots in Pearl’s system, but I expect Harper, JM, Samir, and Johnson to get the majority of the playing time there, at least initially anyway. Bryce is a huge loss, but this next year’s team could be Pearl’s most talented group from top to bottom, and I can assure you guys the recruiting trail is heating up right now so after next year it’s going to be a reload situation, not a rebuild situation.
Hmm. I could be totally wrong. But I don’t even think it matters who comes back, I doubt Akingbola redshirts. If the young man is truly the elite shot blocker/rim protector that it’s claimed to be, then he’s gonna get some minutes. I mean, he can set a screen on offense and sit under the rim getting bloody fighting for put backs and offensive boards for a few possessions a game too

Is he actually going to come back from Africa?

Yeah was thinking the same. And no way we could go into the season with 1 kid over 6’7 in the rotation. Especially if it’s Austin. He’s gonna have to play unless we shuffle the roster and add another big.

I think redshirting anyone in basketball seems like it would hurt recruiting. Just done so rarely now that all recruits expect to come in and play right away

I'm not counting on Wiley at all. For starters he could easily decide to test the waters and head to the G league or anywhere else to get paid to play. His a big with injury history, the clock is ticking and people get impatient. Even if he comes back I'm not sure a) he can stay healthy enough that we can actually depend on him, that idea is terrifying to me or b) that he can be what I want him to be, because to this point he's really struggled in some areas and I need to see a run of games from him that proves he's past those things.

I hope Mac stays, he was getting back to being himself the last couple of weeks. Those rebounds vs UVA were vintage Mac, rising above dudes with 4 inches and 30lbs on him.

May not be anything but it’s something I noticed.

Wiley was the only non-senior that spoke at the welcoming party last night. IIRC

More I think about it, I’m starting to think @jeramye may be right in that Wiley may just decide to go try and make money. Problem is I’m not sure where he can do that right now

I don't think it's a good call but I also get the logic behind it. He was high profile enough as a recruit that he'll get more looks than a guy with the same resume that was less highly rated. I think that's stupid but that's how this works. And I get that he needs to start the clock on his pro career. If I'm a parent I wonder how long before the wrong foot/knee injury hits and it's over for him. I want him cashing some checks before that possibly happens.

But his best shot at good checks IMO would be coming back, playing a full season and being a very good college 5.

it seems like a bigger loss than it is... Maybe ignorant because I am not a boogball genius like you guys, but Wiley can't pass, can't catch, and can't run well. BRUCE likes to run and we seem to be at our best playing controlled chaos. I think Wiley would be better off in a traditional offense.

However, he did come up big in spots where we needed a big man to rough some people up on the boards. BUT, a healthy MAC getting 12 boards and 9 pts a night with 1 or 2 blocks sprinkled in combined with Stretch, if he is as good as advertised may be more fitting for the offense.

will miss having a big body big man down low tho

I think you’ll see us look at bigger grad transfers / jucos if Wiley leaves. Guys that are at least 6’9 or so.

I don't completely disagree. I'm low on Wiley's stock as a player at the moment.

But we're gonna need some bodies. We're gonna miss Horace's energy and shot blocking. If Mac leaves that's more shot blocking leaving. I won't trust anyone we bring in until I see them play college ball and play our style.

we cannot lose Mac and Wiley... More importantly Mac...

Stick around bruh. Greatest boog hoops board in the land

Oh I'm here now. It took me awhile, but I decided putting up with Mr. Tate's crap for information I was already getting from my dad and sports talk with a bunch of hillbillies losers wasn't worth it. This is an oasis of doctors and learned knowledge that I just never really got until a few days ago of reading.

Also, everything is friendly here. It's like heaven.

I’m already excited about next year. I like the potential the roster possesses. IMO Danjel’s career has been rejuvenated and he’s going to put in the work needed to be an All SEC caliber player. I really liked what I saw from him defensively as we moved forward from the loss in Lexington. I think it’s obvious he has the stroke from long range and we have seen his ability at times off the dribble his freshman year. “If” he can put it all together, and I believe he will, then we are looking at a very strong starting line-up if some of the guys come back like I think they will(as of today).

Perfect world Austin gets drafted in the 2nd rd and we procure Khadim Sy. Sleuthed some article on the kid.

https://pittsburghsportsnow.com/201...alks-with-4-star-center-khadim-sy-about-pitt/

My analysis: he desperately wants to boog and is just waiting for the spot to open up.

He mentioned the final four and "not wanting to put certain teams out there yet" so yeah he wants to Boog. He is the perfect guy for us IMO. He is number one on my big man want list right now.

PSHAWWW...he looks old and who plays in suit?

Yeah I should point out that I have an unhealthy love for Doctor Chuma, and am going to worry about him no matter what.

I got ya but I doubt that happens. I really really doubt they waste a draft pick on a guy that they don't know if he will ever be back.

I think Harper really, really, really wants to go. I don't blame him because he's proved about all you can prove at this level and if he was 6'4" tomorrow morning he'd be a 1st rounder. But he's not and that's not changing. I kinda feel like we've seen the last of him at AU if I'm being honest.

They'll all test the waters and should take every step they can to see where they will go. My only worry on Chuma is some team making him a promise to take him and then someone else falls to them and they bail, leaving him in a tough spot. I'd probably try to get that GM fired immediately and make it my new life goal.

I could see him getting picked in the last 4 of the first round depending on needs but at the same time find it hard for a team exec to do that with an injured player.

So I went to the Thunder v Wolves game yesterday, and I could see SBJ possibly making the league as a Dennis Schröder type dude. Of course Schröder has 2-4 inches on him and speaks German, but SBJ has the same elite burst. I don’t see SBJ being a starter, but he’s got the speed and offensive burst to give himself a chance at a roster spot. That type of non-stop 100 mph energy off the bench every night might get some GM to take a chance. I don’t think he gets drafted, but seems like the hardworking type that could get noticed in the G League if he’s willing to spurn the higher initial salaries abroad. Same thing is probably true for Bryce.

And I just don’t see how Austin has an legitimate chance to play in todays NBA. Maybe 25 years ago, but the athleticism I saw yesterday from the bigs was staggering.

And lastly, did y’all know that Raymond Felton is short fat and still in the NBA? Dude played like ten minutes and was bodying folks and slow jogging like it was the YMCA. Was inspirational, but not sure how the dude is in his mid-30’s still cashing big checks.

What does this team need next year to be as successful or more successful? We will have an upperclassmen-laden roster with plenty of youthful depth. What is the roster lacking next year that needs to be addressed in the offseason?

I thought there was a rule about entering into the draft pool. I thought you could only do that once and return. If you did it twice, you had to declare. Is that not correct? In Harper's case, can he do that again since I thought he went through the process last year?

Edit: just found an article from the NCAA that says more than twice. So they can enter twice and withdraw with no penalty.
