OT: Any business owners on this board?

Kind of. I have my real estate license and I do that on the side. I'm basically an independent contractor for my brokerage (RealtySouth).

I basically have to sell 2 houses to get in the green from my expenses. I like it.

Yes. I manufacture sunshine and I sell a lot of it. Margins are not great, though.

Speaking of sunshine, @ricedp105 hasn't posted on tbb since Thursday. I guess he either is on a long weekend or is dead. I guess with today being a holiday the vacation is feasible, but one more day without posting and I have to assume he died.

I was an athletic director at a university in the Deep South... since I retired of my own choice... I have decided to open a consulting business teaching others to love their school as much as I love mine. Also, I sell funnel cake making machines....
If you had said Head Coach rather than AD, I would have sworn you were Ellis Johnson.

Independent contractor and becoming an S-Corp in a couple of weeks.

Cons: No benefits, no paid time off, (for me) lots of admin stuff I hate doing, going 48 hours or more w/out sleep a couple of times every month because of work, finding quality people to work for you, being a workaholic because you never want to turn down an opportunity to make $$$ since how much you make is generally up to you.

Pros: No set hours or schedule, work as little or as much as I want/need to, get to write off really cool stuff like rent on an apartment 3 blocks from Nats stadium, tablets, computers, TVs, massages, male prostitutes (stress relief) - not really but wouldn't be a bad idea as a general business expense now that I think about it. :D

TWO LIPPPZ--datz funnay az HAYUL!!!

Yep. Sister and I own a showroom in Manhattan and we do consulting and wholesale management for small apparel, footwear and accessories brands that haven't become fully mainstream yet. This was passive income for a long time for me until I decided it was what I wanted to do full time. It's both great and terrible, depending on which day you talk to me.

Just like Hotel California- you can never leave

Quoted my own post because I managed to get out of home building for several years but now I've been sucked right back in. Also a Realtor and I develop residential property. @demeat, I feel your pain, bruh

I almost never have not been. Since I was 24. I'm 56.

It’s not for me. I grew up in it, it sucked. The money was good but my dad basically worried all the time. I come home now and couldn’t care less if my building burns down or the rest of my co-workers are hit by a large asteroid on the way home from work (thoughts and prayers).

Trust me, I can see it and find a lot of benefits to it, but I've been doing this so long I don't think I'm really employable.

The problem is in my industry I see a ton of opportunities to get high margin, low overhead work and I start getting worked up about the possibilities. I am not interested in ever having direct reports again in my life.

What line of work are you in? Show me those ideas and I'll open a company and hire you as well. Win-win for both of us.

I briefly owned a risk assessment company. Being responsible for everything wore me down. Sold out just before my divorce. Simplified things, and life has been much better. I now have great benefits, decent pay, no worries, and no wife. Win-win.

Yes. Immediately out of college and it’s become easier over the years. I’m very good at what I do. I’m a perfectionist, and that’s not something that fits my business. My retirement plan is to run for Political office or be a HS b-ball coach and move up to college hopefully at AU. Im afraid that might not be possible as I don’t have any connections In the cbb world, but I know if someone gave me a shot I’d be able to do well. I want to be a non Jewish version of Bruce.
