OT: Boogs 2020 Not Men's Softball

are we supposed to pretty good this year? I only pay attention to baseball when the season starts and never know if we’re supposed to be good or not

I saw where we are projected as #6 in the West, which means top 25 type from what I understand. Like #9 overall also behind UF & Vandy, which is pretty much where we have been “starting” the last three years. Hoping to take in a conference series this year if they let many folks in.
Edit yeah my math not too good. We would be overall #8 preseason.

Apparently Jack Owen is out with a dislocated finger. Shouldn't matter, that's still a really good rotation. @DufnerFanBoy - any idea how long Jack is out?

Not @DufnerFanBoy, and we need him in this thread, but Butch said today it would be two weeks before he throws any. So 3 weeks at a minimum and I’d guess a month.

Edit: I said that wrong but ultimately 3 weeks at a minimum.

Yeah, Butch said today he thought Jack was a week away from throwing again and that it would be two weeks after he started throwing before they were ready to put him back out there. My guess is it will be a full month into the season before we get a full outing out of Jack, which will be right around SEC play.

Trying to watch two things at once but Ware is legit so far. Was worried about LaRue/catcher when I saw that Williams was catching for Bull but apparently that’s just a deal with those two guys and I shouldn’t question it. LaRue looks good today.

@DufnerFanBoy, I didn’t watch last night but was shocked to see that Ware was in the 3 hole. Was that expected?? Good start for him last night regardless.

He’s been tearing the cover off the ball since he got here. I thought he might be in the 5 hole behind Williams and Woley, but he’s clearly earned that spot in the lineup. He just looks different swinging the bat.

Yeah, I think Greenhill/Williams might be a thing this year to try to get an extra bat in the lineup, especially if we want to get another LH bat in there. And from what Butch said, it came on the last couple weeks and wasn’t really a planned thing. Williams looked much improved behind the plate last night from his previous stints. And with COVID being a thing this year, it’s probably a good thing that Williams is earning some real PT at C. LaRue looked legit today though.

Anybody got an idea on how easy/difficult it will be to get tickets to games this year?

I haven’t seen the student numbers anywhere but if you don’t donate directly to baseball, it will probably be tougher that basketball tickets. It’s at 20% total capacity but as I said, I’m not sure what % is allocated for students. Bball was close to 50% students.

20% of a lower capacity than basketball does make it seem impossible. I was hoping I could flash my vaccine card at them and have them let me exceed the 20% limit

Extremely difficult for weekend series. I went Saturday after getting a ticket from a bunker member. But that’s about the only way to go, find someone who isn’t using all of their tickets. They turned away probably 100-150 students and fans in the 30 or so minutes I stood outside waiting. Stub hub has some tickets posted, but the prices were pretty high. And it looked like it was forcing people to buy tickets in the allotments posted. So if someone posted a group of four together, you had to buy all four.

Who did we beat? I assume it has to be a powerhouse program

My comment had nothing to do with opponents. Only your contention that winning two of three isn’t good. But hey, we got lucky and swept a series. Good news for both of us.

Brutal loss

Hard to imagine a worse start to our year. All 3 weekend starters are now banged up and that loss today could stick with us for a long time. I fully expect BC to ride that momentum a long way. They don’t think they can lose now. I flipped away at 8-1. Was 9-9 when I turned back. Brutal is the word.

All goes back to our glaring lack of mental toughness

Yes, we need to rebound quick and not let this linger. 2 outs with two on, up 8 in B9 and lost. We straight @Slippin Jimmy'd that game

I knew this thread would be alive again, haha. I was half-watching while doing some projects around the house. Went in the garage in the 9th, came back in and watched the last half of the 9th and the 10th. Felt like a gut punch. Not sure if it matters in the grand scheme of things, but for sure one of the most brutal regular-season boog events of my lifetime.

I think we will see if it has an impact tonight against UAB. We could see a bit of a hangover from it. In the grand scheme of things, I'm not too worried about it. You clearly never want to lose in that fashion, and that game along with the Oklahoma game has revealed the biggest weakness of this team. But the reason you test yourself against quality opponents is to find those pain points and work on them before conference play. I think we have some options to remedy the weakness, but part of that remedy is getting everyone back healthy.

So if this isn't the most BOOGATHLETICSBULLSHIT I've ever heard... Fitts and Greenhill have the same injury and it appears that it was caused by the crappy Under Armor cleats they were wearing. I don't know for sure with Greenhill, but I do know that for sure with Fitts and I heard they had the same injury.

But yeah, I feel pretty good for where we are right now but it could obviously go in either direction at this point. If we can get the pitching staff healthy, we should be in pretty good shape. Seems like it might be the best hitting lineup we have had in a long time. Got to find a closer. Need to get Jack back and hopefully Fitts can get back on track. If those two things happen, pitching staff may look like a plus in a few weeks, but right now it's a question mark.

SEC play begins tonight. @Slippin Jimmy whats your prediction for our conference record and for the level of our post season success?

Big opportunity to get a series on the road. Ole Miss is good, but they're struggling a bit right now and dealing with as many injuries as we are. Hopefully, the return of Owen and Fitts pays off for us this weekend.
