OT: Boogs Not Mens Softball

Not burns fault.

He had multiple ground balls into the infield. He did his job. Our infield sucks balls under pressure... especially the Canadian. Build that wall IN THE NORTH.

There is plenty of blame to go around. Burns wasn't good, but Auburn still wins if Julien makes a routine play. Probably can also blame Butch for asking Burns to do something he has never done before

You realize Julien drove in the first three runs Auburn scored. I think we should probably keep him.

The good news is the announcers said he was coming back next year. Hope they got that information from Auburn

Butch straight up panicked after Fitts gave up a leadoff hit to one of the best hitters in CBB with a 3 run lead.
I’ll give Burns props for finding a way to get it done anyways, since the error should’ve ended it, but it just felt like Fitts had the stuff to not put is that situation to begin with.

Maybe there was something going on with his arm, who knows

If that’s the case he shouldn’t have been back out there in the ninth at all.

I disagreed with basically every pitching decision Butch made. I would’ve put Elliot or Fitts in to start the 6th.(Fitts). Jack was done after 5 and fortunate to get out of that inning. I would’ve saved my closer to use as the closer. I wouldn’t have taken Fitts out. I would never have used Burns in that situation for his first bull pen appearance. If I had wanted him to pitch he would’ve started and we could use pitcher by committee and used Jack in game two. Although I didn’t agree with any of them, his decisions still put us in a position to win with a routine play. We need something from Ward and Davis in the next game. We’ll have to score 10 I’d guess to have a chance.

The only decision I didn’t like was going to Greenhill so quickly. I thought EA was fine and didn’t need to be lifted. Didn’t mind going to TB to close it out, but I think going to him to start the inning and face Mangum might’ve been better, just because he’d have been in the windup. Regardless, like you said, the moves still work out if Julien makes the play. Really hate it for him. Hope he goes 5-5 with 3 HRs against Louisville.

I had zero problems with any of of the pitching decisions. My least favorite as you mentioned was pulling Anderson quickly. It’s easy to bitch about it today after what happened, but if Fitts had blown the save with Tanner sitting there ready to go that would have been way more egregious than sending out your team’s best pitcher to try and close out the game.

I didn’t intend for my post to come across as bitching if anybody took it that way. As I stated, those decisions put us in a position to win and that’s all we can hope for. I just wasn’t on the same page with BT all night. I’m a LA Dodgers fan and I’ve spent the last few years watching a manager do things in the playoffs and WS that he hasn’t done all season. I’ve developed a serious aversion to that process. Maybe we get it done today regardless.

Haha, no that wasn’t directed at you. I personally think Tanner was moved to that closer role because Greenhill hasn’t been as sharp the past few outings and we aren’t using Tanner as a starter. It didn’t work but mostly because of the defense behind him. I don’t think it was bad strategy, but can understand why some would have done things differently.

I didn't have a chance to watch the game, but it seems like the difference so far has been defense.

Louisville throws out a runner at home and one of their outfielders makes a great diving catch. Auburn makes an error that allows two runs to score.

Seems like Auburn baseball has had mediocre or poor defense every since I first started following them in the early to mid 1990's. Butch has done a lot of good, but it would be nice if he could change that at some point

Our mental toughness just seems to disappear in the biggest moments.
