OT: Boogs Not Mens Softball

We got here because we got an extremely favorable draw against a bunch of overrated ACC squads.

LOL, you’re such a dipshit. The ACC is easily the 2nd best conference and we beat the #3 overall seed. Why don’t you tell us more about how good Sonny was coming from the worst power 5 conference.

You talking about the conference that’s won a grand total of 2 CWS championships in their entire history?

Disappointing ending, but this team should still be loaded next year. If Julien comes back like ESPN said he would, I see them starting the season top 10 at worst and maybe top 5. Be interesting to see how they handle high expectations for the first time in a while

All I know is last year the ball bounced off a glove and over the fence and this year our infielder failed to tag a base runner and decided to instead throw a wild ball to first. Didn’t know how it would shake out just knew there’d be some WTF moment when it did. Being a boog is not for the faint of heart. Proud to be relevant to be honest. Competing when others around you have more schollies then you is not the easiest thing to do.

Auburn might find some heartbreaking ways to lose, but I don't get the logic that it is do tough being an Auburn fan.

Auburn has made the College World Series, Final Four, and BCS championship game since 2013.

Auburn is the only SEC school to accomplish that feat using the 2013 time frame

SEC schools have won 4 Natty’s in the Big 3 sports in that designated time frame as well.

I think we have a chance in baseball next year. Our pitching is gonna be night and day better in my opinion.

Fitts looked liked a stud at the end of the season. Burns and Jack Owens both return. Horn was at least decent at the end of the season and he should be better next year with it being his 2nd year off Tommy John surgery. Hopefully Wade Garrett can live up to his hype. We are also bringing in 4 or 5 stud pitchers

For all their success in football, bama might have the worst basketball program in the SEC since Wimp Sanderson was fired in the early 1990's.

Bama has made it to the Sweet Sixteen once since Wimp Sanderson was fired. For all of Auburn's struggles in basketball, we have made the Sweet Sixteen 3 times during that time frame.

Bama has won one regular season SEC championship in basketball since 1988. Auburn has won two.

Bama has won zero SEC tournaments since Wimp's firing. Auburn obviously won it this year

Look for that to change. The powers that be in T Town don't like the effect Bruce is having on positive exposure for AU. Expect the new coach to be a miracle recruiter like the midget in football.

I’d argue against that all day if I knew why we were discussing it in a baseball thread. Just FTR, Gottfried went to the post season 8 of 10 full seasons there.

Because we are discussing the difficulty of being an Auburn fan. Something that includes all sports. What thread should that go in?

Gottfried also won more than one game in the NCAA tournament a whopping one time in eleven years. He is their most successful coach since Wimp. Kind of shows just how bad their basketball program has been

So Bama going to the post season 21 times during a stretch where AU went 11 times makes it easier for you to be an AU fan? Got it (Rhetorical question btw)

Yet Auburn has been to the Final Four more times, the elite 8 more times, the Sweet Sixteen 16 only one less time, and has won an equal amount or more total NCAA tournament games.

Bama had to vacate their 1987 NCAA tournament appearance because Derrick McKey took money from a sports sgent

Could easily have a much better team. Hope the young pitchers don’t have the Sophomore slump that got a couple of hitters this year. Still a tough league but I hope we can get in the 17-20 win range in the conference and host a Regional.

I expect we will have more players in the portal with Elliot Anderson and Will Holland being the only key players we lose

Yep. We have two seniors leaving, Brett Olson and Blake Schilleci. We had three guys leave for the draft: Holland, Anderson, and Daniel. We have had 5 guys enter the transfer portal so far: Lau, Eaton, Bearden, Gray, and Sweatt. That puts the roster at 26, based on the roster that started the season. We’re bringing in 18 new guys (14 freshmen, 1 JUCO RSFr, 2 JUCO Soph, and 1 JUCO Jr). That’s 44 players for a 35-man roster.

We probably will lose a few more from the current roster and will redshirt some guys that won’t show on the roster next year. The class next year isn’t as big, and we stand to lose a boatload of guys from next year’s team. So redshirting a few guys from this incoming class makes a lot of sense.

Just saw where Julien signed for 400K+. I'm dissapointed, I think he gets a lot more if he comes back and plays closer to his potential but I will just wish him well.

Personally disappointing for sure. No way he could turn that much $$$ down though. He would've had a hard time making more money next year, even with a great season at the plate IMO. He's a man without a home. He needs to get started working on his position in professional ball, wherever that may be.

@DufnerFanBoy you hearing any baseball news out of Canada today?

Yeah, I heard something this morning, but no one that I thought would know had heard it. So I wasn’t sure if it was legit or not. Then a guy posted on the bunker that it was happening, and I saw he’d left his summer ball team. So I figured it was legit, and BMatt then confirmed.

Kinda sucks because, with the way he ended our season and the success he was having with Hyannis, I thought he had a chance to have a monster year next year. But when you hit .392 over the regional, super, CWS, and 6 games on the Cape, the team that wasn’t willing to offer any more money suddenly finds a way to come up with the jack to get him signed. The best decisions he made were to announce his return and go play for Hyannis. It’s what got him paid what he asked for.

This team is still loaded next year. Julien leaving does leave a little hole in the power department that we need some unknown guy to fill.

He’s shown pretty well as a Soph. Good FB 85-88, can bump 90 right now. Sharp CB (if he couldn’t throw a good breaking ball, I’m not sure his dad would allow him to play). I think he has real potential to be very good. With two full summers and springs before getting to Auburn, he’s going to make some significant physical changes and improvements between now and then.
