1984- #14 Miami Loss 18-20
1998- #16 Virginia Loss 0-19
2002- #20 USC Loss 17-24
2003- #8 USC Loss 0-23
2012- #14 Clemson Loss 19-26
2016- #2 Clemson Loss 13-19

The last time I THINK we beat a ranked opponent on opening day was 1957 against #8 Tennessee by a score of 7-0. And yes I cheated.

We finna get beat. Gave AU to my buddy at a pick and he gave me Boise -5.5 at Troy in return. Wouldn’t be upset if I lost both, but I highly doubt that happens

Let me just say this

2002- #20 USC Loss 17-24
2003- #8 USC Loss 0-23

The first one was a bad loss because we had so much potential to win that and change the program.

2003 was one of my lowest points as an Auburn fan. I was so geared up for that season.

Looking back on those games, our defense did a decent job against some ridiculously prolific offenses.

Wasn’t 2003 an 11:00 game or something? Just remember it feeling super early and I was hungover AF. Tried my best to get drunk before the game and couldn’t make it happen. Didn’t help that it was 115 degrees outside either.

That 2003 preseason was a bigger hype job than JJ for Heisman. Probably the most hyped team I’ve ever remembered at Auburn and has so much to do with Auburn fans’ expectation hesitations.

Nothing was worse than Gussies two year hype job for my money.

The 2003 team was hugely disappointing, and hurt us the next year, but it was bigger/the biggest to many current AU fans because of the different social media platforms available to discuss it. 1984 and 1985 were equally hyped and as collassally disappointing for many. Just fewer ways to express the disappointment back in those days. Other than yelling obscenities at Pat Washington and Jack Crowe it was hard to get it out.

I honestly cannot remember a bigger opening game or bigger hyped season than that one in my lifetime.

I got to the gate 2 hours early to just in to the stadium 2 hours early. So much disappointment.

Then compound it with the Georgia Tech game the next week.

1975 would be close. Memphis STATE comes to town & boogs are coming off a 10-2 season with pretty much everyone back. We were ranked #7 & MSU was a joke, until they went up 24-Zip a halftime. And yes, I was there. Shug was a lame duck and we go like 3-7-1, & I never accepted the forfeit from Mississippi State.

You have to be some type of dipshit to ruin that 2003 offense. Hugh Nall must be such a fuggin moron
You would think after USC shut us out with that WEDGE defensive front that we would adjust the following week. Well we DID hang 3 on the Yellow Jackets of North Avenue 7 days later. After starting out #6 in the country, we are 0-2 and pitiful. We get back to MARTA with a ton of Boog fans & I start an "SEC!! SEC!!" chant, cause HELL we were still undefeated in conference play. I was so pissed off, I thought why not. Dad & 12 YO son didn't think very much of it tho

Fvck you for bringing me back there.

I think this is the first game I remember seeing in person. Did we open with them again in ‘76?

We lost to them again that year, but I not sure when the game was. I was parking with my high school sweetheart & she didn't like me listening whilst we were smooching. It WAS a night game if that helps.

So we played them up there then or Bham?

Strong majority of TBB is convinced the UW game will be a win and convincingly so in the 4th quarter. With Gus leading the way, I’ll believe it when I see it.

That 2003 USCw game took a part of my soul.

If we can’t physically whip that bunch and win, we will lose 4-5 again IMO. PAC 12 football doesn’t do it for me against quality SEC teams.

I blame Ensminger more than Nall. But this was a Tubs failure in my eyes. He took 2 career position coaches and tried to get them to run the brightest offensive mind in the country's offense without him around.

I had to look that up, but it was in Memphis ( which I never would have believed). No way we should have been home/home with that program. And they best our ass both times. I can’t remember when we finally put lights up & had a night game, but it was probably later than that

That game was a nightmare. I am going to have to think about this subject some more-ranked teams, etc.

As for the MSU game, what a shock. Coming off a 10-2 season the year before and a near upset of then number 1 bama, I thought we would have a great year but it fell apart quick.

You want to know about a strange game that year? UKY had us beat in Lexington and boom with 6 or 7 minutes left we score 2 TDs and beat them.

Strange too. Very strange if you know what I mean. I will try to find that article.

75 was a season to forget. Very bad.

Back to MSU--remember Solly we went to Memphis in 1976 and they beat us again. 28-27. They played some decent ball. We should have never lost to them but bama and UT can probably say the same.

Blaze On - Blaze ON!!

No--It was a 3:30 CT KO I think.
It was hot and many thought, "oh the Trojans cannot handle our heat."
Well, the folks who went out there in 02 will recall that it was 97 at KO and the heat index was 103. The smog made it even worse.

They handled the heat--sigh.

Pretty sure our first night game was against Wake Forest in ‘82. Bo’s debut.

This HAS to be true. What I know for facts are, I was in COLLEGE for five falls (77-81) and we never had a night game, PLUS I know the Southern Miss was a night game in '82. USM was the one that came to mind last night, but I attended both of those games, and WF was the first.

Agree 100%. 2003 killed my insides.

That southern humidity chit was the biggest bullchit scam the sunshine pumpers ever pumped.
