Well we got by the Rebel Black Bears. Tanner Burns was a stud today (but probably threw too many pitches), Coker didn’t blow the save, and the French Canadian guy hit another ball a long way to the opposite field.

Tomorrow, Auburn will get to face the third opposing ace in as many days. Kilkenny shut us down in the series finale when we played them in Auburn 10 weeks ago. Looking forward to a good pitching duel between Mize and Kilkenny.

Didn't mind him throwing 105 pitches. It was encouraging to see him go longer into the game. Had he made it to the 8th inning in a game prior to yesterday?

7 was his longest outing before yesterday.

I didn't mind it either. To have any chance to get out of a regional I think we need our starters to go deep into games. He gets extra rest between now and Friday/Saturday so yesterday was a good day to let him go as long as he could.

I was joking about the pitch count. Longest outing of his career, most pitches thrown. I have no problem with the way we used him yesterday. He's going to get a few extra days rest going into the regional. So a few extra pitches doesn't bother me at all. I do think we should've pulled him after the first AB of the 8th and the top of the lineup up, but it's really easy to second guess after the game.

I’m with you. He only threw 12 pitches in the 7th and wasn’t stressed, he started the 8th with 89. The second hitter just battled his ass off and had a 12 or so pitch AB. I love the confidence BT showed and it may pay dividends down the road this season. Hopefully that’s his “norm” next year.

Let’s all pray to the baseball Gods that we don’t get a play by play in this thread tonight!

Can somebody please explain to me what Josh Anthony brings to this squad? Every time I watch he’s absolute garbage

Feel bad for Mize. You can tell he's pressing. He's left more balls up in the middle of the zone in the last 3 weeks than he has in two years.

Yeah. His fastball command just hasn't been the same since that Vandy start. The velo is there, but it's like he recognizes he's leaving pitches up and trying too hard to force them down. The three wild pitches were all fastballs last night that he spiked in front of Wright. Just really uncharacteristic of him.

Probably wouldn't hurt him to just take a few days off before the regional. Maybe just a light bullpen or two to keep the soreness off and keep his arm loose.

The other thing is we've given him 6 total runs in his last three starts, and I think we've only scored 2 total runs while he's been in the game his last three starts. Need to give him some runs support to help him out a bit and not make him feel like he has to completely carry the team while shutting out the opponent.
