OT: Gang, we have entered everyone's favorite part of being a boog - coaching fire/hire rumor mill

I said it earlier. GT seems like a perfect fit for him. Let AU give him a 10 milly golden parachute and then let him piss off to a low pressure power 5 gig that’s still in the South. My guess is that he’s actually do well there. But he knows AU is his last chance at a tier 1ish/championship caliber program, so he’s gonna stick it out and piss off everyone involved and

The problem I would assume with Ga Tech is that Gus was terrible against UGA with AU talent, can only imagine how bad it would be for him with Ga Tech talent.

AGGL and 07 are both saying Gus to Tech may have some legit legs.

AGGL called Steele to AU before his name was first mentioned by anyone in the media as even being a candidate.

I am trying not to get my hopes up. Once we announce an OC, I'll know Gus is not going anywhere

BTW, I posted this on 247 and they are losing their minds. The entire spectrum of "I've also heard this" to "You're a complete idiot if you even think this is possible" is going on right now. They really don't handle message board rumors very well.

I hope no one actually believes anything ol' Urb says. Health problems my ass. Dude will absolutely try to coach again. I'm guessing within 3 years some desperate AD at a blueblood school will announce him as coach. As @AuWaterfowl said, something like USC. Or maybe Michigan when Harbaugh gets sh!tcanned. Wouldn't that be hilarious?

Here’s hoping it’s AU

I don’t think he wants anything to do with Saban or Kirby. A move to the weak PAC 12 at a monster like USC just seems too perfect. Or maybe FSU if Taggert gets canned but I don’t think he wants to ruin his legacy even more with UF fans.

Not ruling out an nfl stint either. Browns have been after him before I believe

I’ve heard no less than 10 times this week that you couldn’t have ever scripted a more perfect college football story than Jalens big Saturday. But could we live a billion years and write a more colossally fvcked story than the one we are living out with AU and Gustard? What an absolute shit show.

The Jalen Hurts stuff is so over the top. Game was totally meaningless. Would have been the perfect script if he had to come in the natty.

Guess I’ve never been a fan of a dynasty and I know bama’s fans are deranged but it’s like wgas if they win at this point. Even their own fans how many times you need to win the chip gatdamn.

Stupid move, IMO. He isn't going to quit and no one else is going to hire him.

So if this is your stance, just fire the guy already.
Sure but no one wants to stump up that much cash and they clearly feel like they shouldn't have to. So they're going about it a different way. I think it's pretty boss on their end that they're throwing their weight around and forcing Zahn out of his bullshit excuses for next season

So josh moon is reporting that Gus can only offer the new OC a one year contract. What a boss move from the people in power. Just trying to smoke this mother fugger out
I don’t mind it either. Think a small part of it too is telling Gus that you don’t let your OCs do their job, so why should we commit a lot of money to one

This is my position. I think it is genuinely in Gus's best interest to promote Kodi, Tim, etc. and run the damn offense hisself. It seems asinine to throw top dollar at Hugh or another OC when we know the meshing of systems under Gus is an unmitigated disaster. Don't pay for Hugh, or if Gus truly thinks that's the best chance for success, let him cover any Hugh buyout from his own. The only upside I see with Hugh is the potential for better recruiting to bridge the post-Gus gap and the possibility of Hugh as interim head coach in next year's Birmingham Bowl making a case for a permanent gig.

yeah. That's kind of what I meant by them not letting him have an excuse/scapegoat. No more of it's chip's fault or rhett's fault. It's your fuggin fault you dildo

I am with @cookedw. This is a lot of BS to save what 7-8 Mill next year when you do fire him as opposed to today. The loss of revenue has got to be more than that. Lame Duck coach is worst case scenario. If they released the mythic reduced buyout number than maybe it wohld make more sense but I don’t believe it exists.

Maybe they don’t plan on firing him after 2019 either and want to try and get him to leave again next year

Do any of you guys know what the assistants buyouts are this year vs next? I can’t imagine we aren’t going to lose more than 7-8 million next season, and that could easily double in 2020 if we stink it up next year.

If my math and understanding is correct, Next year will be Gus’ 10 th year counting his years as an assistant and head coach. By letting his bum ass come back, he will be vested for retirement and his huge fuggin buyout. Lord I hate that man.

I guess when there’s so much blame to go around you can always justify bad behavior on either side...

my thoughts are - I want no shortcuts... for anyone... period

this needs to be as painful as possible for everyone involved... so yes, while on the surface I’m erect at the thought of “fvck Gus anyway possible - hamstring him and make him sink or swim on his own, and eat the shit sandwich he’s created for himself”... I’m for that... bigly

but who’s holding the same people who are screwing Gus accountable for their mistakes? he didn’t just get this job - and keep it - by happenstance... even the people who didn’t support the extension still aren’t completely blameless, because they’re a part of the culture that’s allowed all of this shit to fester for damn near my entire life... until they recognize that, they need to feel the same heat that Gus is feeling

if that’s not going to happen, then there’s no need to replace Gus simply because “anyone will be better”... I’ll be happy Gus is gone... but I’ll be no more hopeful for the long term health of the program than I am today unless I know everyone with any involvement in the program recognizes the need for change from top to bottom

We actually have people acting like it might be a good idea to make our HC pay for the second year of a contract for an OC? It's like if @NASCAR Dawg had to pay for his DC's cell phone just because he's fortunate enough to have his paid for by work.

Gus deserves to have to pay every offensive coaches' salary since 2015 at least, but how embarrassing would it be if it really happened and was made public?

You don't even save that. The buy out goes down, but that is after a year's worth of salary being paid out.

Haha. It’s so ridiculous but I kinda love the idea. Next move should be to cut the AC in his office and lock him out of the executive bathroom. Make him walk down to the public facilities in Beard Eaves.

i don't hate Gus, i hate that he is our coach. Wish he would take one for the team and move on, but can't blame him for accepting a lopsided contract served up by a bunch of wanna be gumps.

I get that. You are right. Special Ed people cannot help that they are special ed. My bad fam. I was wrong.
hah, well what i'm getting at that by all accounts Gus is a pretty good person, but he not an effective SEC head coach, and very few coaches are. There's enough evidence now, that even the most staunchest Gus supporters realize that this experiment needs to end. Just don't see how this will end well for anyone.
