OT: Gang, we have entered everyone's favorite part of being a boog - coaching fire/hire rumor mill

It has to be, or a HS coach. Apparently, he wouldnt promise enough control of the offense for Bentley to come.

Lol at him thinking he can put that stipulation and anyone with a decent job on college football accepting

Humpty Gumpty is the laughing stock of the SEC. Love it. Hopefully only one more year of failure and we can send this loser packing. Hope we go 3-9 and all our players and recruits tell him to go pork himself.

No one worth a shit with any actual ambition is gonna take a one year contract to work for a coach that is most likely gonna get fired. I know I'm stating the obvious, but it's going just as the money people have planned and they're letting Gus just dig his own grave and humiliate himself amongst his peers and kill his reputation.

Favorites for the gig:

Kodi
A high school coach
Some old vet that knows his career is over and wants another 700k paycheck if he can get it.

If it ain’t Kodi, then...

Watch out for Kevin Kelly, good friend of Gus and HS coach from Arkansas, who coached Bunker legend Bill Hastings.

Hiring a non FBS DC to come be our OC. My goodness. Someone tell Gus it’s over because I don’t think he knows.

I feel I can only speak for myself - and probably @L I G E R - on this part... but this still has not reached critical mass... this has not been nearly embarrassing nor painful enough to enact any meaningful change

but we’re on the right track

I don’t know that boogs do embarrassment. That would take self awareness. They suffer to much from Stockholm syndrome to realize that they are not being persecuted by the REC but have indeed payed 50 million dollars to be in this predictament. 80% of them probably bought into the market rate bullshit last year and were genuinely concerned about how it would look if Gus went to Ark.

Anything short of immediate dismissal with extreme prejudice of both Leath and Gus, followed by their never being heard from again in collegiate academia or athletics, before being exiled to remote, unpopulated locations where they can never again interact with other human beings, and ending with their subsequent total financial ruin, will simply not suffice.

Stupid move, IMO. He isn't going to quit and no one else is going to hire him.

So if this is your stance, just fire the guy already.

It's a move that would work on 90% of coaches at least. Gus is a weird robot who doesn't process information like the rest of humanity. Its the same thing I think about when reporters close to the program say things like "I can't believe he's going to stick around when being treated like this, it's got to be unbelievable pressure". No, he doesn't feel that they way normal people would. His ego is large, but it doesn't respond the way normal peoples egos would. He's a weirdo. Stop thinking tricks that would make most people quit or look for another gig will work on him. He doesn't think like you do. You'd think they'd realize this by now.

We actually have people acting like it might be a good idea to make our HC pay for the second year of a contract for an OC? It's like if @NASCAR Dawg had to pay for his DC's cell phone just because he's fortunate enough to have his paid for by work.

Gus deserves to have to pay every offensive coaches' salary since 2015 at least, but how embarrassing would it be if it really happened and was made public?
YUP. Well said.

In fact I’d talk non stop about it if I was Gus to piss everyone I could off. I’d talk about converting it to ones and pulling a scrooge mcduck. Or how many avg fans annual salary it would take to equal it

At some point does Gus agree to pay AU to remain the coach?

So you think 90% coaches would quit and walk away from $32M?

I think a lot of coaches would take 15 million and piss off to another gig. It’s possible that Jimmy Sexton made some calls to see if any schools had interest in him, they said no, so Gus is still here

If he had another job possibility, I'd agree. But none exist. So he aint walking away

I think 90% would say "fine, buy me out for XX and I'm out of here" and they'd work to a number that was still very large. Gus is just gonna say not to anything not because he wants to keep the money solely, but because he is a complete dumbass that thinks he (a) can win big next year and (b) that winning 9 games or so will make everyone at AU who matters like him again. He's a moron and doesn't think like a normal person.

Never heard of the dude we hired. But at least they forced Gus to come right out and say he’s calling plays so when it all goes to shit there won’t be any rocks to hide behind

Yep, all I wanted from this hire was for them to show us that receipts that Gus was calling the plays. Looks like that was a much a priority for the administration as who he was hiring. I think the idea of finding someone to pin the offensive failures on had gotten old to them as well.

Good luck to Memphis kid guy dude. Actually seems like he may have a bright future. Hope he enjoys his year at AU so that 5 years from now when he's qualified to be an assistant here he might come back.

Dear Auburn Family,

Nearly 12 months ago, I was blessed to be named the 15th Director of Athletics at Auburn University. I can tell you that leading an athletic department such as Auburn’s is extraordinarily rewarding yet demanding.

I have embraced the privilege of making decisions that will better position our athletic department ranging from facility planning to negotiating football schedules. I’ve also had opportunities to spend time with members of the Auburn family while traveling from Huntsville to the coast and everywhere in between.

Admittedly, a few freshman mistakes have been made, like getting lost on campus while trying to visit with deans of every college and scheduling lunch downtown on a football Friday without factoring in adequate time to secure a parking space.

Thankfully, I’ve also experienced Auburn competing at high levels. I was in Waco, Texas, when the equestrian team won its fifth national championship, in Gainesville, Florida, for baseball’s Super Regional appearance, and on our home court to celebrate the recent SEC championship in men’s basketball.

The duty to lead a large and complex organization with integrity that simultaneously operates as a business and an enterprise is an awesome undertaking. My charge is to enhance the experience of 550 student-athletes, maintain a balanced budget, create a vibrant departmental culture, communicate effectively to all constituents and provide fan experiences of a lifetime.

That said, this overarching responsibility is not without its challenges. To use a baseball analogy, we do not hit a home run every at-bat.

A very real example of this is the most recent football season. Simply put, it did not go as planned. Having attended many practices, team and position meetings, I continue to be amazed at the effort our student-athletes and coaches pour into our storied program. After each win, I stand in the locker room and smile as the young men celebrate victory. Conversely, my heart breaks to see those same young men sit in disbelief after defeat.

Unfortunately, maximum effort does not always equal maximum results. Still, outcomes matter and at Auburn, we expect to deliver.

Since the conclusion of the regular season, there has been speculation about the future of Auburn Football despite my previous public comments as well as statements from President Leath. Unfortunately, those rumors and speculation have not served the Auburn Family well.

Throughout the season, Coach Malzahn and I had discussions focused on placing our student-athletes in the best competitive position for the future. To confirm, Coach Malzahn is dedicated to this program and he has my support as we work together to move forward. Our discussions are ongoing, and we will focus on evolving in all facets of the program to achieve better and more consistent results. Rest assured, my commitment to overseeing and managing the effort to put Auburn football back at the level we expect and you deserve will be unrelenting.

We have the most passionate fan base in the country, who love Auburn and all it represents. You, the fans, are the driving force in our effort to make you proud. Of course, it stings when we fall short of our lofty expectations, but in true Auburn fashion, we will dust ourselves off and recommit to our goals.

To reiterate, my responsibility is to serve Auburn, and more specifically, our coaches, staff and student-athletes. Among other things, successfully navigating this endeavor requires collaboration, trust, passion and resilience – qualities our young men and women learn every day as student-athletes.

As the end of football season draws near, I look forward to the upcoming bowl game and enjoying the winter sports season, which includes men’s and women’s basketball, gymnastics and swimming & diving.

One of the many reasons I’m happy to call Auburn home is because of your fierce loyalty to the orange and blue. Thank you for your passion, and thank you for welcoming my family with open arms. Continue to believe in Auburn and love it.

War Eagle and Happy Holidays!
