Day 4 and its hella hard. Going to try 6 months and see if I ever want to go back. Why did I do this?

1. Yes I prayed about it and the big man wanted me to.
2. I didn't just do it because muh religion. I looked up as much research as I could find about how porn affects the brain and there is a decent amount out there, it all says the same thing, that porn has a highly negative effect on your brain and psyche.

3. I'm just curious if anything changes. I've been watching the stuff since I was a kid, I mean, I've never really gone 6 months without it, so I just want to see what happens.

If you guys wanna roast me thats cool, but if anyone is interested I'll post back in a month or two and then again at the end of 6 and say if I've noticed anything change or if I just miss it.

note: Not gonna quit fapping, but even since I quit the boob tube 4 days ago I've noticed the urge to do so has lessened a lot, also I don't know what to do with all that free mental space and time...

peace

The Greg is a judgement free zone. We're all brothers and sisters here. Good luck on yore spiritual journey.

Saw a video of Rose McGowan today. Not bad.

On week two, haven't watched porn once in two weeks. Gotta be honest folks, this has been eye opening. I'm pretty sure every guy here is flat out addicted. You think you could quit whenever, but you can't.

This is hard (pun intended)....The interesting thing though is that I feel so much clearer when I'm out doing things. When I meet girls I feel 10x more confident. Its easier for me to talk to people etc.

I've for sure noticed a big change in the way it affects my mentality and interaction with others but I think if I quit all together I'd have to take up smoking or something because there's no outlet for me to feel that mental relief. Might try working out.

Seriously, how much porn were you watching? I mean, I can throw down a good day of it with some good weed and if I have nothing else to do, but I can't even begin to comprehend porn watching to the point that it was affecting my ability to connect with other people.

I think everyone should try to quit for a week or two and see the difference. I was watching it maybe 3-4 times a week. I didn't know I'd crave it so much just going a few extra days without it.

Really the reason I decided to try this was when I started just googling research on the subject...there is SO much research out there that suggests it really is super bad for you. Like, in 100 years they will view porn the same way we view smoking. Mental health/neurological science/psychology have lagged behind the rest of medicine, mostly due to the complexity of the brain vs something like the heart...its like a bicycle vs a nasa rocket.

We don't know that much but we're learning more and certain behaviors/habits are showing up in research as being extremely detrimental. Porn is #1 on that list.

Also things like prolonged isolation, poor nutrition, etc. these things create spiral cycles.

idk. I'm not a doctor, but I really have noticed a huge difference even in just a week. I'd certainly equate it to quitting smoking. Folks who quit have noticeable differences in their health within 7 days, just like me. They feel better etc. We've all heard smokers talk about what quitting is like.

Porn just has this stigma around it so folks don't talk about it but I have no shame so idc.

You state alot of truth. I have done some research and been to some Sex Addiction groups. It was not because I fighting some demons and was trying to fix some issues. Below if it or not there were several who I heard speak who beat Meh, heroin, and other drugs but couldn't beat S.A.

Some may think this is a joke but S.A. is something serious.

I'm telling you man, its going to be like smoking. I don't really have a "problem" either but folks who smoked a pack a day in the 50s didn't have a problem according to anyone else either.

Please know I wasn't judging you. Honestly curious.

Wonder what your testosterone levels or any SA's testosterone levels are in terms of low/high/normal. Has not watching affected the number of times you masturbate a week? Wondering if there's a correlation in that regard.

I went and had my testosterone tested this summer due to what I perceived to be a significant loss of libido - old age and all. My doctor gets results and asks me was I somebody that could have had the sects 7 days a week, 2 or 3 times a day. Well, duh, of course. She then said, congratulations; you're now normal. Turns out my testosterone levels are normal now and undoubtedly have been high for most of my adult life.

Having said that, I watch porn a lot less now than I did even a couple of years ago. If porn is done correctly (not cheesy) I love it, and for years I kept kink.com in business. Still love the site. But in all honesty, the amount of free time I have these days is a lot less so that probably plays a big part in why I don't watch it as much, meaning I'm not sure that the testosterone levels play a part in amount of time spent watching porn.

I honestly think addiction in general depends on how your brain is wired in terms of what you could get addicted to as much as it is whether you are prone to get addicted to anything at all. I would never get addicted to, say, alcohol, coke or pain killers. However, Valium/Xanax could pose a problem so no way I'd ever get a prescription. Sex? Maybe if I had the time, but porn or no porn, there's just not enough hours in the day for me to spend looking for a pipe layer or watching one on TV to get addicted to it.

Glad you feel better, though. And I don't think being willing to talk open and honestly about porn or sex in general means you have no shame. IMHO, says you're more enlightened than most.

How’s this going for you? Saw a post on another board about porn potentially being listed as a health risk in Florida and thought about this thread.
