He'd tell Gus that he has a contract already and that his next boss can discuss it with him once he's hired. No reason to lock down a 4-5 loss coach, gang. Seems so simple.
I’ve seen like 7/$50M fully guaranteed floating around. I’ll be ill if we give Gus that for real. What are the rumors on Arkansas' guarantee?
@cookedw, you seeing anything on the twitters or otherwheres round the net?

Leath is a bitch. We just need to accept that.
Dude hasn’t done a damn thing or even made decent statements since he was employed even with all the shit going around. It even took him too long to fire a lame duck AD when that would’ve been the first step any decent AD would’ve done in week 1.Why do you say that?
You think he has done nothing since being at Auburn and should’ve fired JJ one week after being president?Dude hasn’t done a damn thing or even made decent statements since he was employed even with all the shit going around. Auburn is better than Iowa State. I wish they’d quit stealing their fvcking employees.
Yeah. He already has "life changing money" and that quote is coming from someone who, supposedly, isn't in it for the money either. He's "just a ball coach" according to some ITKs. Kind of sad that two big wins can possibly get him 50 million dollars guaranteed. Even more sad that he could still get that money after getting his ass blown out yesterday.Because all that money he has made since being head corch at AU isn't life changing money? Got it.
What a dick this guy is. You've got people doing shift work forking over hard-earned money to go watch one of his shit shows and that prick is going to say, well, 60 mil is life changing?
Gus must have made a mint while coaching HS ball because he obviously thinks what we've paid him thus far is chump change.

What’s he done? I’m not saying he’s bad yet but don’t really have anything to go yet other than a messy bball sitch. I don’t give him high marks there even though at least BRUCE is still here.I've actually been pretty impressed with him.
Guess we just look at thinge differently.
someone just posted that Arky offered 7 year 50 mil.RR over in boogville is saying the ‘word on the street’ is that we’ve offer 6yr/42mil FULLY GUARANTEED. If that’s the case I’m so fuggin done with boog football.

Lose lose situationI think it's obvious our assistant coach gave money to either the student athlete or their family member. That is a huge NCAA infraction. Pearl has refused to speak with the University. More than likely Wiley will be reinstated and Bruce Pearl will not lose his job. Looks like Leath is on board with rolling the dice. He came into a shit storm and I don't envy what he inherited.
Well I’ll give him a ton of cred if that’s how it plays out. Hopefully he tells Gus to walk today. That would get me on board in a hurry.I think it's obvious our assistant coach gave money to either the student athlete or their family member. That is a huge NCAA infraction. If? LOL. If he goes to Arkansas there is no if. I am so hoping this happens. Bring in a good, offensive minded head coach, keep most of the D staff and let's build a championship level program. Can you imagine how hated Gus will be if he fuggs up at Arkansas and there’s nothing they can do about it bc he got some ludicrous buyout?
Leaving is the smartest play he has. Big contract and guaranteed 3-4 years before being bought out at full price. Woo Pig Sooie!IMO Gus sees the writing on the wall regarding his big time HC potential and is trying to max out his earnings while he can. Cause either way in 4 more years he will either be a coordinator at a P5 school or head coach at somewhere like Southern Miss.
More power to him. I'm just hoping it's Arkansas he fleeces.
I’m not as anti Gus as some here but you cannot fully guarantee 7 years for that man. You know they’ll have rollover stuff in there too. It’s insane. Let Arkansas have him. I am fully against a contract where we may have him go 7-5 a couple of seasons and be staring at a $30 million payoff or just deciding we are alright with sucking for a decade. This from an Ark mod on 247 in the last hour:
One former Auburn coach and one current SEC coach at another school both think Malzahn will end up at Arkansas as does a member of the staff of one coach who has been linked to Arkansas
I was told Auburn's offer was either 5 years at $7 million per or 7 years at $7 million per. So as I reported last night a few different times the Hogs were gonna have to pay o have a chance at him and I said they would and they did. Now the ball is in his court. This will probably be Gus' last chance to be HC at Arkansas. Auburn has balked at his huge buyout demand.
Think of what kind of money you can throw at analysts and assistants for the right up and coming coach. Makes zero sense to invest further into an inconsistent product, cut your losses and move on.I’m not as anti Gus as some here but you cannot fully guarantee 7 years for that man. Yes and no, imo. Lots of coaches who know how to run a successful program out of the gate out there. Gus started behind the 8-ball, some of the other options out there won't have that same handicap. Plus huge money for staff, analysts, buildings and spend the same or less as keeping Gus.If AU could somehow land Gundy, that’s really the only coach out there that’ll definitely be an upgrade. Everything else is just a wishful mystery box
Here’s my offer to Gus. Three years rolling guaranteed at $5mm per year. Win SEC West, $2.5mm bonus. Win SEC championship, another $2.5mm bonus. Win National Championship, another $5mm bonus. So $15mm each year he wins it all. Highest APR in the league, pat on the back and a congratulatory Tweet from Leath.
Unfortunately that is probably below market for the crazy-ass SEC these days. That's too generous for a 4-5 loss coach.
