I really don’t think AU would be able to upgrade on Gus this year and I also don’t think AU wants to be married to him for another 3-4 years. Kind of a tough situation but I’m in favor of keeping him. What he did was impressive this year and he has built a championship caliber roster
No, he hasn't. Defensive depth will rear it's head next season. OL may be improved but RB depth/talent is iffy. WRs will be out of here soon as well with questionable backups.

At this point it is a business decision and the amount of possible bad will from fans down the road is greater than giving the keys to another moron for way less. Right now I would hire Matt Luke over paying Gus anything other than what a 1-2 year extension would cost.
A bit, won't deny it. I'm also right more often than I'm not. This OBBERN team will have 4 losses, which I think I listed as the ceiling for this team before this season. Glad we beat UGA and UA and all but I'm not seeing the program management you are, apparently. I think we could upgrade significantly across the program for what it'd cost to keep Gus.
Offense will be worse next year. Replacing 4/5 on the offensive line (which wasn’t great anyway so that doesn’t give me much hope for the backups), no KJ or Pettway. Stidham slowly scrambling for his life and throwing fifteen hail mary’s a game to Darius Slayton.
OL is a wash, imo. We rotated 8 or 9 and 5 of those are coming back. RB depth has 2 definite good backs, but one will be a true freshman if we keep him. Behind that, depth isn't there. Who replaces Stove, Myers, Davis after next season?

You have to prepare for the worst in 'crootin, man. It's not about the next season. One or both of those guys could be gone and who replaces them on this roster or in this class? Nothing is guaranteed right now, but a new splashy hire with a solid defense would bump recruiting to another level, imo. Plus you have money for facility upgrades and staff. Seems like a smart play to me.
Give this offense to a Gundy or Petrino and while it would look different it could be very good. Stidham can sling it. That slant to NCM was a beauty. This offense doesn’t cater to what he can do best IMO.
I'm more for keeping Gus because he seems to be going to back to athletic run first dual threat guys. I'm excited to see Malick and Joey in Gus' offense. And you can squabble over the depth on defense if you want, but, no matter what, it'll always still be miles better than what it was in 2013 and 2014.
If I had to choose between saving your life at the moment or letting Gus go, I just want to say, you will be missed on the Greg.
