OT: JB Grimes is embarrassing

Hiring a guy you pushed out so you could upgrade to Herb Hand after Herb Hand leaves you is pretty bad. I say this as someone who liked Grimes as a pure OL coach, saw him working in person a few times and loved his style (he sucked as a recruiter though and it just wasn't working).

This is the type of move we all worried about when Gus got the mega-contract. Doing whatever he wants, not getting outside his comfort zone and only hiring people he knows will go along with whatever HS plans he's got.

Which is strange though bc I thought herb and Gus was tight. Unless this is his saying "F you" to the powers that made him push Grimes out.

A buddy of mine has been DM’ing with Cole Cubelic and Cole just told him straight up that JB is back. TIFWIW

Looks like Tater got a case of the chappt ass over this whole Herb Hand deal because he was scooped and caught totally by surprise. A boog called him on how He seemed pissed about it and here's his response. The part about "The Nigerians" came off a bit racist imho. I mean, they have names the last time I checkt.

I didn't mean to be snippy about this.

As for Herb, man, good for him. I reckon he'll get better pay with the co-OC title and Texas is a good place to coach. I do like him, but I wasn't particularly close with him.

I actually texted B-Matt and J-Lee earlier about this deal ... before it all went down. I was skeptical that Malzahn had set this up to create a conundrum so he could give Hand a raise to stay. Those two are pretty tight. Why would I think that? Because Herb, from my perspective, is a solid OL coach. Not a great one. Not a poor one. Solid. If he's not Gus' friend, I don't really understand how he'd have gotten the job at Auburn. He was stinking it up at Penn State before Auburn. And now he goes to Texas after doing solid work at Auburn.

His claim to fame here (IMO) is getting Braden Smith in the correct position and getting the two Nigerians and hyping them up. Now the Nigerians will sink or swim without the guy who put that whole deal together. If they bust, Hand has a lot of 'splaining to do that he won't have to do because he now coaches in Texas.

I'm surprised Texas stuck its neck out to get a guy like Hand. He doesn't seem notable, at least from my perspective. Tom Herman felt otherwise. Maybe I'm missing something.

I've been having recurring headaches since the auto accident three weeks ago. I had one creep up on me today. If I'm curt, that's probably the deal.

I think I’m done with Au football for the next 5 years. It’s going to be hell.
I know what ya mean, man. But I'm never gonna be done with it. I gotta support our dudes. I'll always boog out on football.

We just have to readjust and revert back to being pre-2010 boogs. You know, where we expect 5 losses and make winning IB our season. And if win amen corner and make ATL erry now and then, then bonus. Hopefully it'll be over in less than 7 years. Maybe some team will prove to be more ruhtarded tha AU and hire him away.

I agree. I’m just going to have fun at the tailgate and not pay too much attention anymore. I’m not the type that accepts mediocrity, so I get really frustrated.

I thought this was funny. Biggest insiders (imo) on 247 said this about Grimes (he did not say whether or not he was hired)

Edapes:

He absolutely called Rhett Zoolander while at Auburn and mocked him openly in 2015 to his unit

JB Grimes is the man if true.

He’s so fortunate to have had his daughter crash into the barrier cables on I-65. He now has an excuse (i.e. multiple blinding headaches per week from the crash) to be a shithead to anyone he pleases for the rest of his life. How convenient.

PS. I’ve been having 2-3 migraines per week for the past 13 years due to a neck injury that resulted in occipital neuralgia. If anything, they’re debilitating. But I’ve never had the dickhead side effect. That’s just a natural personality trait that tends to manifest itself whenever I allow it to.

I'll disagree with JGT about what Herb's claim to fame is. He didn't even have anything to do with signing Prince Tega, and Tega started out on the DL. Plus, I don't remember and "hype" surrounding Prince Sammons nor is there any hype surrounding him currently. By all accounts, he's not expected to start this upcoming season and will most likely get passed by Cal Ashley. Herb Hand convincing Cal Ashley not to decommit is probably the best thing he's done for this program. Braden Smith was already a guard before Herb got here too, so I'm not sure where JGT is getting that either.

for transparency sake

-JB Grimes inherited the #2 overall pick at tackle on his first AU team
-Had one of the best rushing offenses in SEC history
-Given three years, he is unable to use that success to land a single tackle that can contribute anything.

Why?

He also couldn't recruit an adequate center either. Dampeer sucked. Golson was a transfer and I think was already enrolled before Grimes got there. And I'll be shocked if Kaleb Kim ever starts.

wait, so Grimes mocked Rhett in front of players, then followed Rhett to UConn? either the “mocking” was far more innocent than internet insiders would have you believe - or everyone involved is a cuck

this one is 50/50
My guess would be Cucks ahoy

At least with all our other scrub head coaches they were gone in a short period. In boog football hell gentlemen.

50 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THIS
It’s so crazy. This program has been held together by duct tape and dumb luck for years. Enter Kirby at UGA. Exit Boom, T Rob, Dameyune, Baylor scandals. Our only mildly competent tackle was an OM transfer.

In my wildest dreams I always hoped we’d differentiate from bama becoming a BASKETBALL school. If we can just get past this Chuck thing it will have happened.
