He had a great line about how rich he was because his 2011 Tacoma had leather seats. I literally could not stop laughing at work. I was in tears.

PS - has jdf ever liked a post?? I've never seen a post ever with a like from him.

His “I don’t have the GD effing time” line was arguably the hardest I’ve ever laughed on the internet.

Really wish someone could dig through the old rivals servers and exhume that masterpiece. Would love to read it all again.

it was a simpler time... the 06-08 time frame on Scout and 09-12 time frame on Rivals when these boards skewed quite a bit older and were full of “serious” football guys... it was too easy to rile them up simply by not taking them - or anything else - seriously, because they took everything - and themselves - VERY seriously

we didn’t even know what trolling was, we were just shitasses looking for a way to pass the time in our respective office jobs without having to resort to shameeating a sackful of Krystal’s alone in our car in the work parking garage, to numb the pain... the oasis of college football message boards turned out to be a godsend, but a lot has changed the last 7-8 years

Yeah this is true. Now everyone on tMB thinks everything is Bs andcoesnt care but back then jdf could say he was rich bc his Tacoma had leather seats and people would take him serious. Then you had a few guys who could take a joke and would needle the serious posters to keep it going. The MB is sometimes funny now but from like 06 to 12it was its best.

Ha. Na just always been a big fan. I remembered his persona on scout when I stumbled onto tmb. Great group of Boogs there and a boatload of idiotic college football fans. Then CAM came into our lives and it was just magic.

Yeah everyone is a sleuth these days. Or a witless young buck that just types KYS to every post. Everything really all came together to form the perfect message board environment.

I still don't even really get the whole trolling thing. Is it troll if It's an obvious attempt at humor that an intelligent person can pick up on? Or is it a troll to call a dumbass HS corch a dumbass HS corch? Seems like clean fun and expertise to me.

don’t get me started... similar to your “deranged e-persona” series, I’ve written dissertations on college football message board culture and how it’s changed over the last 10+ years

then, I’ve either deleted them without posting or immediately felt ashamed because no sane person should spend that much time and thought energy on something so effing stupid

the concept and definition of trolling has been bastardized beyond repair, primarily because when trolling actually existed no one had ever heard the term “trolling”... once people became aware enough of the phenomenon that it was given a widely accepted name, it automatically ceased to exist simply by virtue of the recognition it existed in the first place

I’m sure there’s a really smart analogy to make there, but I’m not smart enough to complete it

Did anybody ever figure out if he was 57fdj? I figure it was he or a friend? Maybe @Fatz Geronimo or someone? It was like two trolling TF out of them at one time, and driving them nuts.

He was ahead of the message board troll game. Before it became so routine, he was absolutely hilarious. Once there were tons of people trying to replicate his type of act it was done. Now it feels like half the posts on any large board are attempts to be funny like a JDF that fall flat because it's being done by less talented people and it's done so often that instead of 90% of the board falling for the act you have virtually nobody jumping in freaking out because everyone knows what it is. It's a bit like Gus's pass plays....everyone knows what's coming now.

Glad you all enjoyed reading those as much as I did writing them...passed a great deal of time at a job I hated doing that. The bites were an endless source of entertainment. Can't devote that kind of time to the craft these days, but I'm afraid that train has sailed anyway...

BASKETBALL is, of course, the most heavily discussed sport but there's an interesting dynamic at play right now where folks want to get excited about football, and then remember Gus.
