Hulking, handsome nothing new here for our beloved bball program. Horace checks in at #10 on our list but again don't let this ranking fool you. This is another sexy stud of an athlete that has consistently received rave reviews in the offseason. The youngster has allegedly taken his game and physicality to another level heading into his Jr season.

Strengths: Incredibly long, bouncy athlete. Easily the quickest big on the squad and maybe on par with anyone on the entire roster. Length and athleticism to defend and rebound at a high level at the 4 or 5.

Weaknesses: Limited offensive skill set. Has shown flashes of a post game but has always been too spazy in all areas. Gets bullied down low too often.

Contribution: Key reserve at the 4 or 5. Our D fell off a cliff after his injury. Not that it was great before but he brings a burst of energy and intensity off the bench we sorely missed. Can be a high quality contributor to a TOURNEY team if he can play smarter and more physical.

The GREG ranking: #11

could’ve been the non-conference competition, but our press was smothering at times with Horace at the point of it... still inconsistent and we didn’t recover back well, but we were racking up steals and turnovers galore the first 10 games or so

Horace’s biggest issue is he absolutely cannot play half court defense without fouling... hopefully the increased bulk helps - and playing off the bench against backups - but more than anything he just needs it to click mentally

I had him ranked 10th as well - but in a parallel universe, AUSTIN is suspended, but Horace’s focus catches up to his ability and the game slows down for him in the half court and he takes a huge leap forward... he could easily be a top 4 guy on this squad

my personal favorite HORACE play from his career was when he and Mac finally switched roles and Horace was the backup 4... he came in, got the ball on the right wing about 25 feet from the basket, ran the dribble handoff motion, read that the big guarding him jumped it to double Ronnie or Jared, spun off, and drove in for a huge slam in the blink of an eye... now, he probably followed it up with 2 turnovers and a foul in the next 90 seconds... but he has far better ball handling and passing skills than he’s given credit for... just needs to calm tf down

long story short - I’m a big HORACE fan... total wild card for this squad

His short flashes of excellence are a sight to behold. His quickness is really next level.

He had a stretch in the UAB game I think where he made a great bucket in the post, then he ran back and got a block. Then he got the ball at the top of the key took one lightning fast dribble, broke down the D kicked it out for a wide open 3. Something like that the details escape me but he pretty much single handedly caused the run that gave us the lead we needed to win that ball game.

He’s like that guy that played for LSU and then the Bulls whose name escapes me. Tyus Thomas maybe?

I can see some of that. Feel like Thomas had some more offensive game, even if he was also limited.

As someone else pointed out there, Horace needs to learn to play at a high intensity level without the dumb fouls. He gets himself in trouble way too often and it also puts us in a bad spot with teams getting into the bonus early on us. Too often teams were shooting FT's for 12 minutes of a half or something absurd, mostly due to some really dumb fouls.

For the elderly crowd Stromile Swift was a guy I was thinking of. That dude was a freak show. Super bouncy lean dude that would just run up and down the floor blocking shots and dunking on people.

yeah, Stromile was thinner, but similar in bounce and game.

Saw him in a club in Memphis when he was with the Grizz. Dude was so skinny and tall he looked like an human version of a Praying Mantis. Just legs and arms for days. And of course, even in the club he had a headband on.

Stromile Swift was a monster at LSU... mildly shocked he didn’t have a better NBA career

my dream for Horace has always been Jarvis Varnado... he doesn’t have the inherent shot blocking skill though... he has the physical skills - but he doesn’t sense when to pounce... he tries to block EVERY shot and just gives up too many easy put backs by getting so out of position... if the game slowed down for him and he could play 28 minutes a night under control, he’d be a dynamite college post player... a notch below the lottery guys from LSU - but still great

My inside source said he had gained a ton of muscle but has made a few calls to a burner phone in tha last few weeks thanks FBI...

Stromile was a bad man.

As for Horace, I'm a huge fan. Love his SWAG and love that he won't back down from anyone. He's interesting though, because while his amazing SWAG is a huge strength, it's also proved to be one of his biggest weaknesses. Dude just goes so damn hard in the paint sometimes that he's got 4 fouls before the middle of the first period. If he can control that energy and use it to his advantage, he could be an absolute stud. Perfect defender in BRUCEs system, but needs a little more on the offensive end except for his sexy two handed slams.

A full court press with Horace and Mack both on the floor with Bryce, MUSTAPHA, and either PG would be super tough to break for any team we face IMO. That 5 is incredibly athletic and could do a lot of damage.
