Boogs v Clemson ( Round of 32)

It’s happening people. Clemson looked pretty decent from what I saw which isn’t much cause I switched over to that electrifying UMBC club. I’d like to play a little better than we did last night if I’m being honest.
We will have to play several notches better than last night. Hopefully we can come out hitting the 3 ball early and get some confidence in shooting early. Nerves should be calmed a good bit. I can't even imagine how much pressure those guys felt last night after all the build up of the first tourney game in 15 years.

I'm not gonna do the research but this has to easily be in the top three worst stat lines of the season for the Boogs. Probably the worst.

No way they play any worse but I'm not confident that they're gonna just completely pull it together tomorrow

Outside of Desean trying to do too much too early, I’m not buying the nerves bit. If that were the case, we’ve had a case of the nerves with the exception of one game since @USCe. I think we just peaked a month and a half ago and have regressed. Nothing saying we can’t start trending back up, though. The same talent is still on the floor. They’ve just got to find their rythm again.

Hitting 15 of 32 FTs tells me there was a little nerves

I don't know man I felt like Desean was keeping us in the game early. He missed two early three's but then he got in there and was attacking the rim for boards and scored a bit. Of course then he got two fouls and had to sit.

Not to just be argumentative, but first NCAA game in 15 years should mean there is no pressure. Enjoy yourself but give it your all. Expectations are minimal.

I think @BigtimeAub said it almost perfectly. We seem to have peaked early. We’re still good enough to beat anybody on a given day. Just not playing consistently good ball lately.

We played with a chip and swagger all season until recently. No swag whatsoever. Tight bholes up and down the roster. That said still played D and Jared/ Bryce hit a couple big time shots late. I can’t imagine we can go from here to full on Boogin by tomorrow but play a little better and maybe grind out another W.

I’m just gonna keep remembering the 2000 Florida team... they tied for the SEC title - had a team full of freshmen and sophomores - and needed a fluke runner from Mike Miller just to get out of the first round - then just cruised to the national title game

I’m sure that’s what’s happening here... gotta be

officiating befuddled me yesterday...

they let everything go in the paint, but called everything on the perimeter

if you’d told me before the game we shoot 30+ free throws I’d have lol’d out loud and thought we win by 20

anyhoo - fvck college basketball refs, forever and always

Because shots weren’t falling, there was obviously less swag. I’m not ever going to believe our bunch was nervous against CoC. Sometimes a gym doesn’t fit your eye. Looked like that was the case to me. Bryce made a three then hit the bottom side of the backboard in the next attempt. That’s not nerves to me. That’s just shooting like shit.

Stared 0-13 from 3, finished 5-11. I’m hoping that second half where we saw some shots go down helped us a little. No idea what happened at the FT line other than guys only got there a few times and no one built a rhythm there.

Not having Harper basically eliminated any pace we could’ve created in the first half and forced us to play CoC’s pace. We scored 25 in the first half and 37 in the second half. Gotta have Harper running the show all night tomorrow night.

Yeah I don’t put a ton of it on nerves but I think it played a part. Just totally out of sync, not hitting shots, not creating great looks it just all snowballs together. If Desean drills one on the first shot of the game might have been totally different. Then you miss like 15 in a row and nobody has confidence, start pressing etc. Hopefully Jared can stay in the game tomorrow and get us going.

This seems to be such an issue for us right now. Everyone wants so bad to make the shot that gets us going. Pressing seems to be as much our issue as anything. Maybe that’s nerves, maybe that’s wanting to get out of a slump, maybe it’s a bit of selfishness wanting to be the guy. Whatever the cause, maybe the win will allow them not to press, and they can settle into a game plan and execute on both ends.

Harper is our key for sure. He’s struggled the last 3 weeks or so for whatever reason. I actually felt bad for Davion though. He set up a couple of guys for shots that were very makable. I think he played a lot better than the numbers and results showed.

Agreed. I’m impressed with his body control and touch around the rim too

Davion was big for us last night, and I think last night was big for him. He ran the show reasonably well and didn’t do anything do dig us into a big hole.

That, and offensive boards, was my biggest take-away from the game. He wasn't a huge asset but he also wasn't a huge liability. I think he handled the pressure better than others.

IMO, iff we can shoot better early, and continue to do a good job on getting second chance shots, we will boog hard. Clemson doesn't have a ton of height so boards will come down to who wants it more and who has better body control.

Horace needs to keep up the pressure defensively. One of the biggest losses with Mack was the emotional boost from a big, loud, nasty block.

My concern defensively is that both Horace and Chuma fall for head fakes and get up in the air. I noticed Clemson bigs doing this a bit when I was watching, but I didn't watch a ton of the game.

That may be, I haven't noticed that. I'm still learning how to watch a basketball game. Chuma is definitely going to have to step up, he really seems to feed off the older players though. When the team boogs, Chuma boogs hard.

I really believe this is a huge key to this game.Auburn is playing hard and doing what they can to win,but the shots have not been dropping like they were earlier in the season.Knock down the shots the Tigers can hang in with any team.

The really nice part of the 3 point attempts was that they did hit the last two which won the game for the most part.

They have lost some of the swag and confidence they had earlier.Just need some consistency in some areas to regain those two vital characteristics that makes Auburn boog.
