Boogs vs Bryant (baseball)

Is this a “we realize what we actually have with Butch” year or does he get another Golloway pass this season, regardless of what happens?

Hope Butch doesn’t play him too many innings.

I have some personal experience here. Threw my arm out in All Stars in 1997 and lost some pop in my bat. Luckily we only played two games and were out of tournament.

This is confusing. Last year's results/the signing class/who he convinced not to go pro out of HS wasnt enough to make you realize what we actually have with Butch?

What kind of pass are you referring to?

Remember, you guaranteed us Burns was going pro and laughed at anyone who thought Butch had convinced him not to.

Impressive how much mileage you’re attempting to get out of this. Equally impressive is the revisionist history when it comes to what the actual discussion was about regarding Tanner.

Nobody is saying Butch sucks. He ain’t Gus, that’s for sure. It’s just that some folks here think he’s above reproach like he’s fuggin Tommy Lasorda or something....
This. He’s proven literally nothing in his career other than being a very good recruiter and being capable of having arguably the worst situational defense of all-time for a team one pitch away from a Super Regional.

Nobody thinks he is above reproach. I just think he is the coach that best fits Auburn and should have been hired instead of Sonny. I think Sonny is a good coach, but I think he was a terrible fit for Auburn. Not because of issues with AD, but because I don't think he could overcome the challenges of coaching at Auburn (a college in this state).

It is contra to the last staff, who seemed to lose at least a game a series on a home steal attempt or pick-off. The number of inexplicable situational decisions from Golloway were something I don't think I've ever seen from another staff we've had.

Well you and cookie are his staunchest defenders over here anyway. Cookie might also be the king defender, but I haven’t been in boogville in a while so he may have been dethroned over there.

Appreciate you rice'ing up the thread two days in a row

Losing a Super Regional bid on the last pitch because you have your outfield playing basically on the edge of the infield dirt is one of the dumbest coaching moves I’ve ever seen.

Like, worse than CoxCat terrible.

That’s what I figured you’d say. But you can’t back it up with anything that I’ve said. You just think that because we don’t share your opinions it’s that way. Oh well, as somebody said earlier, you do you.

Yep, that was a bad move. But it wasn't Coxcat.

What makes me probably even more mad than that was having bases loaded and no outs (down 1) and the next two guys striking out before Anthony hit a single with two strikes. Should have been up by more than one.

He's a great recruiter but he stunk for 1 batter in an important game isn't an incredible argument against the potential of the franchise. I do agree that it was a bad call.

Considering the situation and the stakes, it was a Top 2-3 worst coaching move by a “Big 3” Auburn coach of all-time.

On par with the fake punt defense vs FSU by Gus.

We just disagree here. But again, I completely agree it was a bad move.

I see this is your new go-to when you don’t have a suitable retort.
Oh dear

Not at all. Up to this point, you have just proven you are not capable of having a logical discussion on Auburn baseball.mybe one day you will be able to, but until then, I guess we will just have to deal with rice like silliness and exaggerations from you.

You do you

It was a “Baseball 101” mistake when you’re one pitch away from getting your program to a level it hasn’t reached in many years.

It reeked of a coach not ready for the moment.

You simply cannot let the best hitter in the ACC hit it over the heads of your defense when a runner isn’t in scoring position and you have the lead.

Fair enough. I was disappointed we lost but with what we had to deal with leading up to it with injuries I kinda felt we were playing with house money. I certainly didn't feel like the season was going to progress much further with our limited pitching assets.

Not this argument again. I think Butch is a very good fit because of his recruiting prowess and his focus on pitching. He’s made a few blunders as a HC too.

We won today 13-4. Our starting pitching got roughed up a bit again today, but the bullpen really pitched well after Daniel left. Excited to see this lineup face some quality pitching. Probably will see it in the midweek against South.

I get what you’re saying, trust me. But not taking advantage of opportunities to accomplish great things when they present themselves is the sign of a mediocre coach.

According to the Boog Board, Gus was playing with “house money” in 2013, but that doesn’t change the fact that he choked on the biggest stage. And we all unequivocally hate him now... so what has he really done for us? How will he be remembered?

He’ll be remembered as a mediocre coach who was the benefactor of 2 of the greatest plays in college football history and still wasn’t able to capitalize when it mattered most.

So are you saying Kirby is a mediocre coach for only giving Michel one touch over the final 13 minutes of the game and zero in OT?

I'll just disagree with the grading of "mediocre coach" at this point. I'd give it an incomplete for sure.

He has the most important part of college sports down, and I do agree that I'd like to see better in-game coaching.

I was the biggest critic on the internet when it came to Kirby’s coaching decision about Michel’s touches in the natty.

But at least he’s a phenomenal recruiter. At this point, he’s basically a better version of Butch, but with an SEC title and a natty appearance.

Just making sure you were consistent with your extremism. I can't tell you that you are wrong as it's just the way you look at things. Just don't agree with the mindset, but to each their own.

I haven't seen anything prior to this comment that the outfield was too shallow. I feel like I remember the center fielder hitting the wall. Wasn't the ball hit in the gap anyway? I don't really remember, I'm honestly asking.

It was hit to the deepest part of the park. I'm not entirely sure Todd would have gotten it but I do remember thinking he was playing too shallow.

It probably wouldn't have been a triple. It was one of the best games I've seen in college, wish we had won.
