I admit to giving up on Anfernee. I was convinced he was so in his own head he couldn't possibly have an effective game. And he ended it with only 1 foul!!!! That alone shows he was operating in a more stable way. He was incapable of limiting terrible reaches or jumping out at a guards with 3 seconds left on the shot clock in ways that invited a call.

Bryce was nuclear. Harper had an unreal feel for when to push it and where to go with the ball. He absolutely crushed them turning non-transition spots into transition spots. Chuma didn't shoot the lights out but he was very good and wrecked them on the defensive end IMO. Mac and Wiley combine for a very good line and both played their roles extremely well. After that most of our guys were just okay...Horace and Purifoy almost weren't there they played so few minutes and picked up fouls so quickly. Samir tied for the lead in rebounds so I guess he did more than I noticed.
I literally watched him AVOID a foul last night like never before. I was so proud, because the only explanation is that he reads the GREG.

Same on Mac. My biggest thing is that he got us some key boards. The last few weeks he looked like he was only looking for shots on offense, but last night he looked focused and played his best game in a long time IMO. I credit @Fatz Geronimo for not losing faith in him.

he’s gonna be MUCH better next year... I really think most of his defensive/rebounding issues are due to lack of lower body strength and just not trusting his lower body enough to stay with guys on switches, or on quick post attacks when he’s giving up the baseline too easily

you’re seeing it with Gordon Hayward... you saw it with Paul George... even though Mac “healed” quickly, it just takes time to get all the way back, night in/night out... we see the flashes, but it’s so inconsistent it’s frustrating

next year he’ll be more consistent, but at this point we only need a couple of more games from him this year, so that’s doable

Our last trip to the sweet 16 we were freaking ROBBED! The ref’s stole that game, they had to keep Melo advancing. Marquis Daniels would have fit in well with this current BOOG team.

He was playing pretty damn good when he got injured last season. I think you're right that it's as much psychological as it is/was physical and not trusting things to go pop when he played full speed. His game inside and out seem to have improved over the last month with his best game of the year last night.

he seems “back” offensively rim running and pick & popping, but those movements are in space, and less stressful and don’t require the same physical exertion

it’s the plays in traffic and that require more, idk the right word - more trust in your body, that are limiting him right now... he gets switched onto a guard that he’s athletic enough to stay in front of, but gets scared and reaches instead of trusting his feet... same thing when a big catches the ball on the wing and faces up - he smartly forces him baseline but instead of moving his feet and using the baseline as an extra defender he reaches or pushes... and same on box outs - he’s boxing out with his upper body not his lower body, which leads to the fouls and hook & holds

I didn’t notice it as much until this last stretch of games with Austin... he’s not fouling as much - he’s not reaching on the perimeter - and in the paint he’s arms up and moving his body and defending with his chest and letting his size do the work for him... it’s such a noticeable difference that the most logical explanation is his foot/leg issues were way worse than we realized, and now he’s finally healthy and the difference is night & day... it put Mac’s defensive issues in a whole new light for me

Lost in some of that is that Samir could be AU’s qb and Jared catches passes over his shoulder in stride better than every AU wide receiver

glad you said that... I’ve marveled at it on every replay, but he made that pass look far easier than it is... from that body position, with that little effort

seems Samir has played much better off the bench the last few weeks

everything is just falling perfectly into place right now

That was an incredible pass by Samir. Grabbing a board and having the presence of mind to immediately look up floor and instantly assess that Jared was open on the break and then air mail a half court pass to him in stride is an unreal play. Jared did a great job to finish it as well, but that's one of the best plays Samir has made all year.

Did any of you peeps see Gameday this morning? Love fest for us during our time. From everybody. Long story short, Reece said if AU shoots like they did last night, go ahead and congratulate Bruce on his first Natty. So fvcking cool to hear that kind of love for our hoops squad!

yeah. Reece was gushing all over the HYGs. He also said that it was the most fun and exciting half of basketball that he's seen all season

And Dunbar’s visible impact has tailed off somewhat. The good thing is we’ve rarely seen Bad Malik, which was a fear of mine when moving him to the starting lineup. Not sure what it is about that bench 3 spot that gets guys going, but it’s seemed to bring the good out of both Malik and Samir.

Gang. Game was over so late last night, that I almost forgot my countdown to Minny. Please forgive...

I don’t. Tried to google but haven’t found it yet. Will keep looking. It will get you fired up all over again!
Believe this is it.

Edit: not sure why but the link won’t work. There’s video on the espn app of Bilas and Jay Williams gushing over the HYGs
